very fun for lovers of the genre and one of the few with 4-player local mode, the only flaw is that it is not possible to turn off the music

They compare this game with Gradius and R-Type, which I can't agree with.

All that it's missing is a synthesized voice saying "bloodmoney"

C-Tier shmup I love pixel shmups and enjoy when there is upgrade/ unlockable systems. The rotating shield gimmick is somewhat unique. But, again, this shooter suffers from the common issue in this genre since the beginning: jankiness. In that regard, it is just like most of the shooters from the bygone 8bit and 16bit era.

Very cool game, for those young enough to remember.... this is THE spiritual successor of Xenon-2 the legendary vertical scrolling shooter with weapon shop between levels, also with local coach CO-OP like this. I don't know why the poor reviews. Play on controller, figure out the menus, and unexpected discovery - you can rotate your shield with the bumper buttons on the controller !!!

It's not terrible, but I can't recommend it. Gameplay is mediocre and the achievements are broken. There's some weapon variety which is nice, but it's really hard to gain currency to buy them since money drops are near non-existent if you replay levels so if you want to try other things you're kinda forced to just restart.

The sounds, the graphics! Yes, just yes. This is right up my street. If you like the 16 bit era, or particularly the amiga. Do yourself a favour and BUY THIS GAME! You will almost certainly love it. 92%

My first impression is that the game has a lack of character or direction. It's familiar but new and everything is scatterbrain, mashed together bits of nostalgia. There's a hint of "cheating" to some of the difficulty in strange, swirling white dots that are ...bullets? Difficult to notice among the on screen pixel debris from your own fire and they damage you without knowing exactly what hit you. Maybe I should go with my first impression and discard the game, but I admire the design and effort put into it as a love letter to arcade/16 bit gaming. Altered Beast, Alien, R-Type and even Battle Toads (final area is reminiscent of the jet ski level) are nodded to and the music is 1989. I enjoy the passion, obscure references and details and feel of it. It's cohesive in the sum of its parts even if it lacks a solid direction. There are quite a few weapons to buy and upgrade and enough money to get four of them and a "tier 2" ship at level 2 by the end of it by replaying one or two stages. A fully loaded ship feels nearly broken in it's power during the boss fights but decent reflexes will still be needed on the later stages. One weapon that explodes with shrapnel that adds extra damage blocked some of the obstacles including the aforementioned white dots of environment fire. Dialog later on also got in the way of what's happening on screen. This is fine on sale with its relatively short length and hits a nostalgic note or two. The bugs I found were an animation freeze on the first tier two ship while it moved, stopping on an animation frame, though the ship itself could still be controlled; and the autofire/turbo when holding the fire button down would just stop firing for a second, then it would resume. Three "Power-Up"s out of five.
