Space shooters never die. 1993 is a testament to that. 1993 is a classic shoot em up celebrating games like Gradius, R-Type and Life Force.

Old-school side-scrolling shooter with retro vibes and simple but satisfying gameplay. The pixel graphics and co-op mode give it that classic arcade feel, and there’s a decent variety of ships and weapons to unlock. It’s not super deep, but if you like nostalgic arcade action it’s a fun little blast from the past.
Pros:
✅ The game is not too difficult and the checkpoint placement is generous (The Omega level can be very challenging). ✅ Decent music. ✅ A huge selection of weapons and multiple ships.
Cons:
❌ The text window sometimes appears at the worst possible moments when you need to dodge multiple objects. ❌ Broken achievements... As of now, you cannot obtain any of them legitimately. ❌ Limited amount of money you can earn per run. Once a level has been completed, replaying it will not reward you with any additional money. ❌ Too expensive for what it offers + broken achievements is a huge deal for me.
This one should be called 1993: Space Time Machine. It was a shoot 'em up almost complete in 1993 but finished in 2016 with obvious inspirations from genre classics of the 80s-90s. Number of weapon choices at the start felt a bit overwhelming to me (25!!), but you've eventually got the choice to buy your favorite kind of shoot 'em up weapons. Two by default and up to four different with the bigger ship. That was a cool feature permitting you to try out things and create powerful combinations. There was also some neat rarely-seen type of weapons, such as the Superstring. However, some of those might be overpowered or feel underpowered, which might change when upgraded. Rotating shield was a cool gimmick. A big positive thing for me was that even if you died, you kept your money and you could replay levels after quitting the current one. This meant you could continue improving your ship even if you were stuck on a level. I liked there was at least one new dangerous obstacle or defense in every level. It was not just enemy ships shooting at you in an environment that's just a decor. That being said, exploding when touching floors, walls and ceiling was not a thing, which I appreciated very much. Gamepad controls were fine with both analog stick and d-pad. Average graphics, good for 1993, but lots of variety in enemies. In the negative, no options on the title screen whatsoever and broken achievements. So this is a good, not great, retro shoot 'em up worth getting on sale.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ (4/5) I spent some time with the game and overall had a positive experience 🙂 It’s a classic space shooter with simple and clear mechanics: you move forward, shoot enemies, dodge attacks, and gradually upgrade your ship. There’s a choice of ships, different weapons, and a local co-op mode, which makes playing more engaging 🚀 The atmosphere and music fit the old arcade style well, and if you enjoy this type of gameplay, it feels solid and enjoyable. At the same time, it’s fair to say that the game feels somewhat outdated today. The amount of content is limited, the mechanics are straightforward, and there are no major innovations, so it likely won’t surprise modern players. However, as a small retro game for short sessions or for fans of classic shoot ’em ups, it does its job well and leaves a good overall impression 👍
simple enough game so I don't have any issues with it. Would personally wait till its heavily discounted or get it in a bundled pack.

Screen resolution doesn't adapt to the screen. No options to adjust screen resolution or at least window it instead of having it fullscreen. Consequence: Parts of the interface are cut off to the left and right. I guess the programming is from 1993 as well. Also, terrible design in terms of storytelling. The textboxes autoplay and autoprogress, while at the same time while reading you are already supposed to dodge stuff in the level, that is obstructed by the textboxes. No control overview. No overview of what the interface is even displaying. Is there a health bar? I have no freaking idea. There are some bars. No idea what they display though. I've died while they were full. There are numbers as well, but same: No idea what they're showing. Achievements are ridiculous. Into my hidden games you go, forever.
