The date: April 15th, 1917. As the citizens of Verdun-sur-Meuse had believed the fighting along their city had finally waned, the bones of all the fallen soldiers could only look on as a lone Fokker Dr-1 takes flight against a threat too outrageous for words. 1917: The Alien Invasion DX takes place in an alternate WWI where the world is violently besieged by aliens. You play Dr. Brunhild Stahlmüller, performing an solo act of vernichtungsstrategie against the aliens and flying her 'Red Beezlebub' to the heart of the interplanetary menace. The game has a nod to the developer's earlier title Sturmfront: The Mutant War as the assistant to Dr. Stahlmuller, a Dr. Hartmuth Griesgram, is a key character in Sturmfront. The game functions well as a tate shump with plenty of risks and rewards for good flying. One specific factor in the gameplay loop is the use of a score locking pickup, in which the combo you build from downing enemies increases as long as the combo is unlocked, but can quickly drop if you're not careful. Once the combo is locked by a pickup at the end of the level, the combo can be continued into the next stage, and so on. The Red Beezlebub also come equipped with two different firing modes, a green weapon that does modest damage, and a heavy hitting weapon that pushes back your ship with each shot. Sebastian de Andrade shows their trademark capabilities with pixel art as every portion of the game is lovingly rendered and easy to read. Can you get through all eight levels and defeat the Chessmaster?
A vertical shmup that's metal af, and will have you fighting robots, weird humanoid ships, tanks, weird penis alien ships, and an assortment of deranged demonic bosses. Challenging, fun, and the soundtrack's good. 4 different ships, 2 of them basically being different game modes

What a fantastic little shmup
Great shoot em up. One hit dead except that there is shield that takes one hit. Infinity continue from beginning of the stage with no continue screen (continue right away). 4 different ships with a few levels of level up (3?). One of the ship has no shield. The last ship is the hard mode. 8 levels total. It has well-balanced difficulty. It is not easy but not impossible like those old arcades. Two bosses (maybe three) has really fast bullets and are much harder than the others. Some levels have some unforgiving terrain. The hard mode is pretty hard. Every enemy shoots loads of bullets. Still, not too bad compared to many other coin-eating shoot em up. I like the style and the BGM. There is some kind of satanic BDSM theme going on. Kind of weird but fun.
The History Channel when it's three in the morning.
Feels like trial and error game. The first couple of levels are fine, starting with the third level you get more enemies with lots of health and more bullets, the bullets from the boss also fly a lot faster. Pattern repeats in the next level. In turn more into a bullet hell situation than a normal shoot em up where you need to hide more than fight. But given the graphical style it becomes very hard to read the screen if youre shooting. I also found the alternate attack useless as it deals only somewhat more damage, but in return you can move. You keep repeating levels over and over until you memorize the patterns, but it becomes a drag and its not fun gameplay.
