Oyé, oyé, neurospicy crowd (and neurotypicals alike. No gatekeeping here)! Ever wanted Egypt and dinosaurs in the same sandbox? Or to witness a triceratops dressed as the Joker while two random dudes recreate the Spider-Man pointing meme nearby? Welcome to this perfectly chaotic hidden object hunt. The mission is simple: locate 100 dinosaurs in each level and enjoy the absurdity along the way. This review covers the 3 free stages in 100 Hiddensaurs: Basic, Christmas, and Halloween. Everything else lives in paid DLCs, but achievements only exist in the free content anyway.
For a free game, there’s a surprising amount here. My full 100% run took about 8 minutes (since they are all in the first level), though the three levels themselves can easily stretch to around 20-25 if you explore calmly. Achievements follow normal completion, dinosaurs come in four different types, and their costumes and expressions are adorable. Placement is honestly great. Some dinos hide in ways that made me double back more than once. Infinite instant hints appear when only a few remain, pointing to a general area without ruining the hunt. There are sound sliders, a cursor swap option in the menu, a good save system if you quit mid level (out of timer mode), plus a few mini games and a great animated intro tucked in.
But you must play with the timer active to unlock the mini games, and timer mode doesn’t allow saving. Some discovered dinosaurs don’t fully recolor, which can create a moment of confusion. One particular triceratops in the Halloween map also fought back hard. I clicked it repeatedly, the hint insisted it was there, and it still took several minutes of pixel hunting before the click registered. Nothing dramatic for a free title, but worth noting. There’s also no brightness slider or dark mode, which would be nice with such colorful scenes.
Overall a great free HOG if you seek to expand your horizon. The achievements are fun and educational, the hunt is challenging and the levels interesting. Worth it for any fan of the genre.
