You're Not Special is a (mostly) non-combat, choices-matter, puzzle-based RPG. There are great forces set to doom the small kingdom in which you live and only the chosen one can stop them. The problem is, you're not the chosen one.

This is a great game with a high amount of irony. It really likes to poke fun at traditional adventure games while still maintaining the essentials of any good adventure. With all the many choices you can make in this game, it has a high replay value, which keeps each playthrough fresh, as you attempt to discover every possible ending. Also, it has a phenomenal soundtrack. The puzzles, which are really a central part of this game, are quite enjoyable. They are reminiscent of the Pokemon games. The ice puzzles in particular brought back fond memories of sliding though ice caves in Pokemon Ruby, which was always my favorite kind of puzzle in those games. The puzzles are challenging without being too frustrating. The creators really put a lot of effort and thought into balancing the difficulty. There are still a few bugs here and there, but if you message the devs they are super quick to fix them. Plus, their customer service is topnotch. I'm pretty new to the whole review thing, but this game made it worthwhile for me to take the time to write a review.
A joy. I have five different saves I'm playing at once, because I constantly want to go back and find out what happens if I make different choices. This little game is fantastic, it packs a big punch, and is quite cute. Just challenging enough to keep me trying the same bits over & over for hours but not so challenging that I give up. Have been telling all my friends.
What a great game! Fun puzzles, clever dialogue, and a fun and engrossing world! You're Not Special is a clever take on a traditional story. It was a lot of fun!
It's refreshing. The music it's really cool and the story its really interesting. Many puzzles that keep you thinking and many decisions, that made you return and see what happen if... Playable in mac too... so, good for me.
I honestly love this game! Recently, I haven't been able to play a lot of RPG's, but this one really hooked me. I actually found out about this game on twitter and began beta testing it, and love how the game progressed and took form! The writing and story is very clever and funny. It is a throwback to when i was younger and played games for the story. I like how there are different endings, so there is definitely replay value. I hope others enjoy this game as much as I do!
For my full review, please visit https://themommygamers.com/2019/03/01/youre-not-special/ Ultimately, it is the fact that this game meets each of my tenants for a good indie game that makes me recommend it for your wishlist. It is fun, the fact that it was even made (and by a single game developer I might add) is inspiring and the entire concept is interesting. All this and at reasonable price. This is why indie games can be great. Welcome to the golden age.
A lot like Jon and Kate plus 8 minus Jon minus Kate plus a good rpg and fantastic soundtrack
First: I didn't find it aaas amazing as the previous reviewers, compared to other games that I've played. BUT ... I'm definitely charmed and enriched. And grateful that this game was made. :-) The game is an interesting essay on what might happen if someone else is the hero. I liked the experience. Exploring that other perspective. I liked it a lot. I like also how there's many philosophically/psychologically interesting thoughts voiced by different characters weaved in throughout the game. One playthrough is rather short. It took me ~4 hours. Clearly, the focus is not on telling a long, complex story, but a short, magical one with different choices that lead to different endings. There are 10 endings, so I guess you'd have to multiply the playing time by a few times, minus time for things like puzzles, which I think you'd just do again the same way each replay? Although the puzzles are well done, so if you let some time pass between playthroughs, they'd have replay value. There's only one town, one forest and three dungeons. The story rushes through its story beats quickly - once you figure out what to do next. The lore feels real and mysterious, but not very extensive. I like it as far as it goes. I would like to see more of the world and the characters. Some things that could be improved: - If you overstep your bounds, people tell you off (after all, you are not a chosen one ;-)). I think their ways of doing so could be a little more varied. A few more could be sprinkled in between who react e.g. with humour, or confusion, based on their personalities. Someone could escort you to the door politely but insistingly, or someone could just stare at you meaningfully, or ... etc. - People tell you off for entering their houses without notice (finally a game that gets that a little more realistic =) ) but there is no way to actually knock on their door or ring a doorbell. Maybe it could be added. - There could be more things to do in the town area? Especially ... I'd suggest making earning the money for the cloak a little more fun and less repetitive. Maybe the tasks you have to do to earn money could evolve, e.g., at first it's just, please gather wood, then after a while the person says they would also like for you to collect mushrooms for them, and then next something else ... or the guy could say, please take down my laundry, and maybe later you could help him do his dishes or something ... Generally, a charming, thoughtful game that could be expanded upon. Unique and refreshing in its approach, it's worth a playthrough (or several).
