Yorkshire Gubbins

Extremely short, not worth £3.99. It had promise but has been abandoned by the developer. 99p at best.

The Good: + Genuinely funny throughout (though tutorial was the best part) + Good voice work + Lip-sync is very well done, something I never thought I'd say for a pixel art game. The Bad: - Some actions need to be done in a specific order when they should work in another. - Technical issue where instances of the game may be left running after closing, and can't be started again until they're force-closed. Final thoughts: I loved the games non-stop barrage of sarcastic humor, and found the characters to be very likable with highly distinct and refreshing personalities. The games a bit short, with a limited number of 'episodes', but I'd say what's already there is enough to make it worth the price of admission. Side note: Make sure to read the store description to find out what order you should play the episodes in, it's not completely clear in-game. Loved the graphics, the voices and the humour. The Yorkshire accent adds to it as well. So so good!

It's been a few years since I have played this, and I still consider this as one of the most delightful games I have ever played.

An absolutely lovely series of shorts set in a fantastical version of Yorkshire, England, Yorkshire Gubbins is a love letter to the region, absurd comedy, and classic point-and-click adventures. Included in this treasure trove is Verb School, the best tutorial for classic point-and-click adventures I’ve ever seen, and Holy Molluscamony and Humble Pie, two traditional (but lovely) shorts set in the magical realist version of Yorkshire. The voice acting really makes this game, and I found it so charming I immediately went and followed its creator on Twitter (who, it turns out, is also delightful). And the musical Aye, Fair Lady! is the best of the bit, and has an absolutely killer end credits song.

Funny P&C games are very hit-or-miss to me, but the humour in Yorkshire Gubbins was right up my alley. Puzzles are simple but logical, characters and dialogue are funny and engaging, great voice acting by everyone, art is nice. Any nitpicks I have seem minor since I enjoyed the majority of the game so much. Charlotte Gore hit this out of the park. I bought it on sale but I would pay full price for this and I am a massive cheapskate with P&C games.
