Short answer: Yes Long answer: It's complicated I got my start (like most people on PC apparently) with Yakuza 0 Now after playing both and looking into the details, I almost wish I'd played this one first, although I also feel like maybe if I played this one first I wouldn't have bothered with the others. Kiwami is the remake of the first game, in case you didn't know, and they remade it using the underlying systems that were added to 0 however it doesn't quite measure up as it is still a remake of a much older game. That being said, if you like the story, it's worth playing, sooner rather than later, don't wait too long or this game will feel even more dated. I'm sticking with it though and about to start Yakuza Kiwami 2... I'm expecting a similar experience but lets see.... I'm more concerned that if I have fun with 2 that 3 is only available as part of a bundle, not on its own, meanwhile 4-6 are available on their own, not sure why they decided to sell it this way honestly.
game was slow and sometimes just wouldnt give you hints as to what to do/where to go, combat felt ♥♥♥♥♥♥, bosses were horrible and its overall just not a good game. the jingu bossfight on hard almost made me cry because of how god awful the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minions were. i would recomment first time yakuza players to skip this god awful garbage of a game. even tiger drop cant negate how genuine ♥♥♥♥ this game felt, skip this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at all costs. P.S. i never beat that jingu bossfight, id rather kill myself than to spend another hour on this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game
This is the first game I played in the series. I found the story really enjoyable, although the combat system is a bit clunky at times. The side quests are quite weird (in a good way) and definitely unique and memorable. I like this game.
