great
honestly kinda disapointed should've went more in-depth with nishiki and kiryu but very very unfortunately they didn't.. also sad that majima just got bimbofied. dont get me wrong i still love him but i wanted more from him after seeing him so beautifully written in yakuza 0. i have a had time recommending this because i have yet to play kiwami 2 and so on but it just was lackluster im sorry.

This is the first game I played in the series. I found the story really enjoyable, although the combat system is a bit clunky at times. The side quests are quite weird (in a good way) and definitely unique and memorable. I like this game.
8/10 story hits like a truck playing this right after playing zero made me emotional many times during the game side quest are hilarious while story is so emotional sidequest were hilarious but still it didnt fill out of the character may be reson could be i was used to the absurty of this game via player 0 gameplay is insane but... gameplay was blast but i just liked zeros combat more could be my prefrence zero combat felt more fun overall i would say really great game ill always remember this game as somthing that made me learn how to play majong
6.5/10 - maybe 7/10 if I’m being generous The story and plot twist were pretty mid, but at least the ending was good. The side stories and side content are straight-up bad compared to Yakuza 0. That is especially disappointing because side content is one of the biggest parts of this franchise’s identity and enjoyment. The gameplay was okay, but locking the most fun playstyle behind around 30 hours of brain-numbing farming is such a bad decision. Most people are not going to want to do that. Just like in Yakuza 0, they really seem to love making parts of their games worse for no reason. Overall, this was a significant drop in story and side-content quality compared to Yakuza 0. If I didn’t already know, and someone told me the same developers/studio that made Yakuza Kiwami also made Yakuza 0, I would be shocked. They couldn’t even make the emotional scenes feel emotional, which is a huge problem because those moments were meant to be the center of the story.
They didn’t give enough time or weight to each death. Five major, well-written characters died, and I barely felt anything because of how badly the scenes were handled. They completely butchered it.
The only real saving grace of the game was the fatherly relationship between Kiryu and Haruka, which was very well done and has potential for a better story in Kiwami 2 hopefully.
