Lol, I once came across videos of this game on TikTok, and now I saw it on Steam and instantly bought it
Wriggle apple is a charming indie puzzle-platformer that takes a familiar concept and turns it into an engaging challenge built around growth, movement, and careful planning. Developed by WormWorld Studios and Sharkgame, and published by WormWorld Studios, the game places players in control of a hungry worm whose simple goal is to collect apples scattered throughout a series of increasingly complex stages. While the premise sounds straightforward, the developers use this concept as the foundation for a surprisingly clever puzzle experience that continuously introduces new obstacles and situations to keep players thinking. The defining mechanic of the game is the worm’s ability to grow longer after consuming apples. Unlike many platformers where collecting items simply increases a score, every apple in Wriggle apple directly changes how the character interacts with the environment. A longer body can help the worm reach distant platforms, cross dangerous gaps, and solve environmental puzzles. At the same time, increased length can become a liability, making tight spaces harder to navigate and requiring players to think carefully about positioning. This dual-purpose mechanic creates a satisfying balance between reward and challenge, ensuring that every apple collected has meaningful consequences. Level design is one of the strongest aspects of the game. The stages are carefully structured around the worm’s evolving size, encouraging experimentation and strategic thinking. Players encounter hazards such as spikes, spinning saw blades, slippery ice surfaces, and movable objects that must be manipulated to progress. These elements are not included merely to increase difficulty; instead, they work together to create puzzles that demand observation and planning. As new mechanics are introduced, the game steadily expands its possibilities without abandoning the accessibility of its core design. The visual presentation complements the gameplay well. Bright colors, simple environments, and an expressive protagonist give the game a welcoming atmosphere. The art style is intentionally uncomplicated, allowing players to focus on puzzle-solving while maintaining a cheerful and approachable tone. The clean visual design also helps communicate gameplay information clearly, making it easy to identify hazards, platforms, and interactive objects. Although it does not aim for graphical realism or technical spectacle, the game's presentation succeeds by being appealing, readable, and consistent with its lighthearted theme. One of the more impressive accomplishments of Wriggle apple is its ability to appeal to a broad audience. Younger players can enjoy the cute character and accessible controls, while puzzle enthusiasts will appreciate the increasingly intricate level layouts. The challenge curve is gradual, allowing players to learn the mechanics naturally before presenting more demanding scenarios. This progression creates a sense of accomplishment as players master the relationship between movement, growth, and environmental interaction. The game also benefits from its focused design philosophy. Rather than overwhelming players with numerous systems, upgrades, or complicated narratives, it concentrates on refining a single central idea. This approach results in a gameplay loop that feels polished and purposeful. Every level builds upon previously learned concepts, creating a rewarding sense of progression that keeps players engaged from beginning to end. Steam achievements further encourage completionists to revisit levels and pursue additional goals beyond simply reaching the finish. Its relatively narrow scope may not satisfy players looking for extensive storytelling, deep customization systems, or action-heavy gameplay. The experience is firmly centered on puzzle-solving, and those who prefer constant variety may eventually find the formula somewhat repetitive. However, for fans of thoughtful puzzle-platformers, the game's commitment to its core mechanic is more of a strength than a weakness. Overall, Wriggle apple is a delightful puzzle adventure that demonstrates how a simple idea can be transformed into an engaging and memorable experience through strong design and creative level construction. The growth mechanic remains consistently interesting throughout the game, while the combination of environmental hazards, clever puzzles, and charming presentation creates a satisfying package. It may not be the most ambitious title in the genre, but it succeeds in delivering exactly what it promises: a fun, intelligent, and accessible puzzle-platforming experience centered around a lovable worm and its endless appetite for apples.
