Overview:
Even for free, this is a game I would not recommend playing especially in it's current state. 'Wild Runs' is a 2D platformer that strays so far from a finished game it can barely be called a game at all. Essentially you're an unnamed character that is tasked to complete 9 different levels in order to be dubbed the "Wild Runner". However, achieving this title is not possible because one of the levels is impossible to beat on top of a ton of other game breaking glitches that make the game unplayable. It is impressive how many issues there are with this game and I'll break down all the ones I was able to find. I honestly believe this game shouldn't have been released especially where it's currently standing. There are just too many issues to deem the game appropriate for play and I'll cover them in depth.
Gameplay:
Good lord I cannot fathom how abysmal it is to play this game. Even on the first level, the game feels extremely awkward to play and although it's not hard to reach the end, I dreaded what the other levels had in store for me solely based off my experience with the first one. For starters, you have 2 actions you can perform, jump and attack. The attack is completely useless as there are no enemies that you can reliably fight without taking a hit. It's so unfeasible to engage in combat that it seriously makes more sense to avoid hostiles or run past them and take a hit rather than trying to kill them and take several. Some enemies are placed in the most inconvenient places and force you to get hit because there's no viable way to engage or avoid them. Most of them throw projectiles you can't conceivably dodge and trying to fight them will guarantee death. It's just terrible level design and proves that no quality assurance was put into this game at all. And you know how else I know that? Because (as mentioned) one of the levels is impossible to beat (level 4 in particular). You're meant to scale up a wall by jumping off it repeatedly but there's a spiked ball that falls down preventing you from doing so. Trying to power through only results in you dying because the ball kills you before you can even reach the top. On top of that there's no way to avoid said hazard so it is literally impossible to finish the level, and you have to complete all previous levels before you can even attempt the final one which means, the game's unbeatable. The fact that the developers weren't even patient enough to test their own game from start to finish to polish and fix what they needed to is more than needs to be said. If the developers don't care about their game, why should you? The level selection screen is a whole other problem. It's unique for sure being a 3D top down view where you manually have to move forward/backwards to select levels but that's exactly the problem. Between level 3 and 6 your character will suddenly speed up becoming almost impossible to control sending you flying past level 4 and even 5 and straight to 6. The kicker? You can't go back. That's right, you will not be able to move back to level 5 if you pass it which means you have to restart the title screen just to be able to try entering the fourth or fifth level. Had the level selection screen been automatic, this wouldn't have even been an issue but the developers tried to be unique and ironically shot themselves in the foot. The fortunate thing is you can play any level (apart from 9) that you want so you can technically see what the levels after 4 have in store for you. It's underwhelming to say the least and it helped me discover that the "progression" in difficulty is a lie as level 7 is by far the easiest level in the game. It's literally just platforms with low gravity, no hazards whatsoever. What happened to "9 levels consecutively getting harder and harder"? I actually beat the second level by scaling the right hand wall bypassing majority of the intended path, what a joke. Needless to say, 'Wild Runs' is a basic platformer but is unplayable.
Controls:
Incredibly awkward and works against the player. Wall jumping is awkward when trying to execute it off smaller walls which is sometimes required and attacking is delayed and useless. Jumping is also wonky and all this put together makes platforming (and the overall game) hard to play by nature.
Graphics:
The only decent thing about 'Wild Runs'. If there's one thing I can say, it's that this game has above average graphics. Trees and even grass sways and overall detail is rather impeccable. I love how the game looks but detest how the game plays and sadly, gameplay is more important than graphics.
Audio:
All music no sound. There are no sound effects and the music is subpar and I say that loosely because it really isn't that good. Adjusting the volume works until you return to the level selection screen, where the volume resets back to 100%. What's the point of having an option to adjust volume if it's going to reset every time you switch screens? And if you thought that was it for the game breaking bugs, you'd be wrong. Yeah, adjusting the volume on the level selection screen actually breaks the game too. Normally you'd be able to play a level by clicking the "Enter Level" prompt, but upon adjusting the volume, the prompt disappears and is replaced by the heart that represents your health bar, except this time it's black. Why is that you might ask? It's because the game now thinks you're playing a level despite you clearly not and now you're stuck in limbo. How something like this flew over the developers head is beyond me and proves once again that no testing prior to release was ever done. Let all these game breaking bugs I've mentioned set the tone for the overall title, it is not a good look. The game says it's in "Beta" but honestly, it's barely even in "Alpha".
Conclusion/TL;DR:
'Wild Runs' is an extremely broken 2D platformer that cannot be completed. With controls and game breaking bugs/glitches so bad it renders most of the game unplayable, this is one title that should have seen serious and I mean serious testing before even being considered to be released to the public. In it's current broken state, I highly recommend to avoid 'Wild Runs' until further polishing (that should have already been done prior to release). Not being able to beat a game due to faulty game programming is one of if not the biggest red flag for any game and needless to say with the state the game is currently in, no one is becoming the "Wild Runner".

This game seems like it would be amazing. There's so much work and effort put into all the graphics that, without looking at gameplay, makes you think its an open world game of some kind. But no, the background is the only thing that has effort put into it. Despite the beautiful landscapes in the backdrop, the platforms in the level looks like garbage. All of the levels are nearly impossible not that I'd want to play it long enough to see if they are beatable. Why did you waste so much time (or money) on graphics if you weren't going to make a good game to complement. If this game was supposed to be practice for you, just use basic assets, don't waste your time. OR, if you're just a 3d artist, JOIN A TEAM. If you made those background assets, there are sooooo many great developers who would love to pay you for that. This game shouldn't be on steam, it should be in the dark recesses of gamejolt or something.
AMAZING ITS SO GOOD PLAY THIS GAME I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT 10/10 for me absolutely perfect.
"Wild Runs" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This is a very poorly made and amateurish 3D rendered 2D platformer with a lame parkour kind of theme, with bad assets, zero polish, 9 badly slapped together levels, so you may be asking, was this a thunderous success here on Steam? And the answer is: No, no it was not. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics aren't great, really clunky looking placeholder/minimum effort textures and assets. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. You're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for such a relatively low effort, low quality product, this comes across more as a delusion of grandeur than anything else. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections that gamers expect to have, which is also highly problematic. Developers must learn they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I had my cat walk over the keyboard while the EULA was displaying, which fixed that problem for me. On pricing, this is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Not this time. This isn't worth downloading. While this won't cost you any money, you get what you pay for, and sometimes, even when the game is free, it's still not enough.
Wild Runs, 3D grafikler ve stilize üretimle geliştirilmiş bir 2D platform oyunudur; oyun, seviye 9'u geçme konusundaki cesaretinizi kanıtlamak ve Wild Runner olduğunuzu kanıtlamak için art arda zorlaşan 9 seviyeden oluşur.
Before I played Wild Runs [beta], I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Wild Runs is exactly how you can poorly create 2D game with 3D assets. This is barebones of game, somewhat playable, but on short notice, because level design does not exist and simplest things are not there, like listing controls, actually saving information of last visited level, etc. "SideScroller" as window title or "Project8" is also showing, that someone did not even bother changing those while creating game.
ok but how do you unlock it and how do you get the achievement(51 percent globally got it!?) level 5 literally has no flag to win so idk even how also its not an open world game(would be awesome if it was) its just a very broken very slippery 2d sidescroller platformer <3 level 1 is easy to beat just run through the level no danger level 2 is rip your hair out but can be beaten really easily with some careful timing, and shield. run up to the first ninja at the platform beneath him then jump up the one above you and go left until you reach the next ninja simply jump behind him and run to the left and bounce on the mushrooms keep going left until you hit the flag level 3 is slightly easier and shows off the (slippery) jump mechanics... kill the super mario things by jumping on their heads or just standing on them with the shield level 4 is hard to get, go to the marker real slow level 5 is a snow level with no flag seriously i tried it 10 times thinking it failed to spawn or something.... similar to the door in levl 6 ...cant figure this one out. doubt i will get a reply. if you are reading this and know then tell me! i need this achievement! dev, will paypal you 50 bucks if you finish this game or at least make it possible for me to get this achievement. thanks. level 6 is a cave mission you have to run to the right and then up the wall and wall jump over to the other wall but sometimes this door spawns there so just restart the level until its not there then you run all the way to the left past the 4 hurt hearts and climb up and left again to the down arrow which shrinks you now run like hell to the right until you hit the wall and wall jump to the corner of the wall opposite to you as there is a path that can only be accessed while shrunken, make your way through the path then you will reach the flag eventually level 7 is really easy actually, just jump and avoid the shurikens and black balls and hurt hearts as much as you can but theres so much health restores that its actually enjoyable. collect the invincibility pickup in the block super mario style(if you get the heart then restart the level this brick alternates between shield and heart) and jump up the wall non stop and reach the top and just jump around the guy and land on the flag(might take a few tries but i got it on first try on one run), now acid trip over to some level that you jump really high just follow the platforms go right then go left and keep going left until you go up and flag is victory level 8 is rocky platform jumper just keep jumping to the other platform as close to the corner of the one youre on level 9 is ....... no idea couldnt unlock it. overall good game very fun and not that bad actually
