Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

WHISPERS IN THE MOSS is a full-scale retro JRPG inspired by the charm and structure of 8-bit and 16-bit console classics, built entirely in a distinctive text-based (ANSI/ASCII-style) visual format.
Developed solo over more than a decade and coded in QB64 (a modern evolution of QuickBASIC), the game embraces old-school aesthetics while delivering a complete 30-hour RPG experience for modern players. Since its release, Whispers in the Moss has been warmly received by players and currently holds a 100% positive rating on Steam.
An Epic Journey: Follow three young heroes from a quiet fishing village as they are drawn into a conflict between an expansionist empire and a banished prince seeking to restore balance. As their journey unfolds, darker forces begin to stir beneath the surface… Expect emotional turns, lighthearted moments, and a cast of vibrant characters shaped by classic JRPG traditions.
Classic Turn-Based Combat: Inspired by early Final Fantasy titles, battles revolve around strategic turn-based encounters. Exploit enemy weaknesses using physical attacks, black and white magic, items, and special skills. As you progress, customize abilities and develop your own approach to combat.
A Highly Distinctive Visual Style: Whispers in the Moss presents one of the most ambitious uses of large-scale text-mode graphics in a modern RPG. Every environment, enemy, and visual effect is crafted in a carefully designed tile-based ASCII format, creating a retro atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and unconventional.
Original Soundtrack: The game features a full original soundtrack of over 50 tracks, composed by the developer. Drawing inspiration from classic JRPG composers such as Nobuo Uematsu, Yoko Shimomura, Yasunori Mitsuda, and Michiru Oshima, the music supports the world with melodic themes, battle energy, and emotional depth.
Optional Content & Exploration: Beyond the main story, discover a wide range of optional content including side quests, monster hunts, fishing mini-games, hidden secrets, and over 170 unique enemies to encounter and catalogue.
A Decade in the Making: Whispers in the Moss is the sole creation of Tapio of Uncultured Games, who handled the design, engine, art, writing, music, and production. Developed over more than 12 years alongside full-time work and family life, the project represents a long-term passion for classic RPG design and retro computing culture.

amazing in every bit playthrough much more accessible than any other rpg/jrpg captivating art style and music it has it all so far story is not as unique (but went only through first chapter or so) but still writing is very neat. I think this is the first game in a while to just hit it off so flawlessly on so many levels
Can really recommend this game! i find the ASCII graphics very charming, it reminds of ZZT and 80’s roguelikes but feels more lively and less flat in design than those. Really happy to see a modern game in this style. The music complements the retro fantasy atmosphere. i can’t comment much on the RPG aspects, i generally play puzzle and story driven games and avoid games with much combat, so all i can only say it’s not annoyingly hard :) and that i appreciate the option to save everywhere. There’s a lot of story and adventure and it certainly isn’t just grinding.

Had a great time with the game, it feels just long enough and has tons of side content! Definitely pick it up if you love classic JRPGs and want more of those.
Very neat game I'm excited to see more of. Design limitations invited by the art style work very well and are used to great effect. Not to mention sound design is paired very well. I shot a fish so hard it exploded into ASCII, 10/10.
cool rpg with a neat aesthetic. works fine on steam deck
Very interesting game. Feels a bit like old Final Fantasy games but graphics are like from old BBS or DOS games and are very unusual. Soundtrack is good so far. Navigating is sometimes difficult but makes it even more interesting to explore the game's maps. Dialogue is cheeky. There's some small bugs like sometimes flickering but it doesn't bother me. Saving is a bit annoying. I recommend this game if you like japanese style rpgs, old PC games, or just games with a unique feel!
It's not what I thought it would be. Come to think of it, what did I think it would be? ZZT + Nethack + Ultima? In any event, it's a super straightforward JRPG with ASCII graphics, Not sold? What if I told you... it all works somehow? Because it does. Combat is brisk and tactical, dungeon design generally feels really good, and there's a good mix of linear progression and out-of-depth side quests. The plot and dialog aren't amazing, but they are breezy. The world is visually intriguing and hard to parse. Dreamlike, perhaps? And yet the game feels substantial. Easily worth the cost.
Uncultured Games have outdone themselves with new release Whispers in the Moss. Ultimately, it's a JRPG. The ANSI/ASCII + text UI style is reminiscent of generational games but absolutely impressive in its execution. The scope of the game is just as impressive. Whispers in the Moss is a fairly traditional JRPG but with retro text-based UI. Interesting characters, decently writing, interesting locations to visit, and the ANSI/ASCII art is impressive. Great game, runs on about anything. Love the art style having always been a fan of C64 era of graphics.
