Where Winds Meet is a good free to play game. You can spend a lot of time in it, and it looks amazing. Unfortunately, a lot of that time will be spent ever so slightly frustrated. Frustrations start right away with menu design. Where even after 1k hours you won't know where all the menus lead as it is an entangeled web of unintuative paths. And that's just the beginning. First, if you try to play co-op with a friend, you'll quickly realize that only a handful of quests (none of the main quests) actually work in co-op. More often than not, something will break, so even content that should work together suddenly doesn't. And if the host gets too close to certain, seemingly random areas, the other player gets kicked. So you decide to play solo. Great, except some of the best rewards are locked behind multiplayer activities, especially events. Fine, you play the events with other people. Except many of them are essentially reskinned versions of popular games (Slay the Spire, Dark and Darker, Resident Evil, TFT, etc) and often don't work properly. Their mechanics often don't ever get looked at again. You don't have to play the events, though. How about something permanent and core to the game like PvP. 1v1s tend to have one of two outcomes. you combo your opponent, or they combo you. Thankfully, whichever happens, it usually ends quickly. Is it at least fair? Well money is involved so.. players who can afford better routing to the servers, which the game openly advertises in its launcher have a noticeable advantage. And like in many games new weapons tend to be a little stronger than the old ones, conveniently accompanied by fresh skins. GvG is an interesting take on large scale MOBA, that is overshadowed by the amout of stutters that 60 shiny skins fighting with special VFX moves brings. There are other PvP options too. Perception Forest is an extraction (not) shooter with a surprisingly good feel to it... as long as you don't fight near walls, cliffs, trees, or boulders. If you do, the winner may simply be whoever manages to unstuck their character from the vertical surface first. New weapons can dominate here too, sometimes by simply staggering you indefinitely. And that's really the core problem with PvP in Where Winds Meet: stagger. It's direct interference with your inputs, taking control away from you rather than rewarding your ability to play. TLDR: The game has a lot of potential, and around the same amount of flaws. There is a genuinely good game buried underneath all of this. but it's constantly fighting against its own design and technical problems.
