Not sure why there are so many positive reviews. This game lacks content, to few everything. And there are no digits, no numbers. How much damage I did? How much health I got? 15% crit rate, how much is that? What is my crit rate? What skills do I need to get an upgraded upgrade version? Where is the compendium? Permanent upgraded are pathetic and lacking. There is no complexity here.
POSITIVE POINTS:
- The art design is quite good compared to other games in the genre. - The boss fights are very good and fun. - Enemies give different materials that we can use to build up to six structures that grant access to new items. For example, the blacksmith gives us additional weapons, and the Town Hall gives us permanent upgrades for our character. - The soundtrack is very good and accompanies the frenetic rhythm of the waves in a great way.
NEGATIVE POINTS:
- We have to collect a lot of materials to unlock the different upgrades. - It has 5 different characters and 5 different weapons: this could be a positive point, but it may not be enough. - There is no visual feedback to know the damage we do to the enemies.
CONCLUSIONS:
Whacking Hell! is top-down, Vampire Survivor-style action roguelite that offers a frantic and fun gameplay experience, albeit somewhat frustrating in how slow it can be to unlock the various upgrades.
EVALUATION:
7/10. If you like the genre, Whacking Hell! is worth it for its graphics and great soundtrack alone. This game is awful. -The hitboxes are terrible. -The weapons are incredibly boring with even more boring evolutions. -Fighting the first boss, with the way the skill targeting works, was a boring time-sink. This feels like an alpha of a clone that took a couple hours to make hoping to steal money from a few people before fading into obscurity. If this was an earnest attempt at making a game, it was not playtested by anyone, including the creators.
Gave this a shot because I love these type of games. I did 4 runs, this is my experience. First, the name set the bar pretty low. so I went in knowing that. I'm onboard through the first menus and character selection, until the games starts. Movement is soo slow. In the preview videos, the character must be move buffed to hell! The hit boxes are too big. In this perspective, I shouldn't be getting hit nearly as often as I am. Different types of resources was nice, but Gold is the rarest, and requires the most for most upgrades. In 4 runs, I saw the boss 3 times. He has ENTIRELY too many hit points for what he is. On my best attempt, I dealt about 25% of the boss's health bar, and kited him around for a solid 5 minutes. I unlocked 3 buildings and no subsequent upgrades (+dmg, +hp, +move, nothing). I did not unlock the second character because it's locked behind a gold wall. Lost interest at that point. This isn't doing anything unique, and other games are doing it all much better. Refunded. But I still love you.
Very fun with a nice and crunchy loop. There's some nice metagame, the runs don't overstay their welcome. Looking forward to unlocking some more characters :)
Well, if you like this kind of art style you may enjoy this game, but still some of the core mechanic and combat system in this game that some people like and not like, In case you can try demo first that you like loop game play or not, and if you think a price is a little bit high than other game in this type of genre you can wait for steam sale period and check this out.
Dev is not very attentive to Steam forum posts. - Achievement bug - Your attack can feel slow/clunky - No hint of fusion spells in game, and some of them are pretty meh for the effort Update: Achievement bug finally fixed.
Standard horde survival game that initially seems easy to play but becomes grindy as you go deeper. You most likely don't keep up with the gaming scene if you haven't played or heard of a game like this before. The survival/horde genre, which this game falls within, is one that is both enjoyable and awarding the more you play it. There is no deviation from the pre-established template in the gameplay. The aim is to survive as long as you can, dodging enemies, gathering items, and gaining experience points. Action game expertise is not required to play this one because attack and aim are automatic. With the exception of the starting character and weapon, all other options must be unlocked first. Every character has a special power and benefit. There are three stages unlocked in order, and the goal is to survive for over 20 minutes and defeat two bosses. There are a lot of distinct and fascinating enemies in every stage. You can review every enemy in the bestiary. Gathering souls from vanquished opponents grants access to new abilities. You can enhance your current attacks or select a new one once you've collected enough souls. But since the three available skills are random, you might not always receive the one you want the most. On the other hand, the selection isn't big so you can eventually grab everything. A bonus random perks can also be grabbed from chests that occasionally show up on the battlefield. However, because of its random placement, it sometimes shows up on the border of the map that can’t be reached. When you reach the ultimate tier of a skill's upgrade, you'll be presented with an option between two almost identical versions, each with an additional bonus to make the decision slightly more difficult. Enemies drop health and three other kinds of material in addition to souls. The most prevalent materials are coin, stone, and wood. In the main menu, these are utilized to construct six structures that grant access to new items. For example, the blacksmith and tavern open additional characters and weapons. The Town Hall, which provides permanent enhancements like damage or speed, is crucial for advancement. However, because each upgrade only unlocks one new item, buildings must be upgraded multiple times. Buildings merely unlock items so you'll still need to use coins to purchase them. Although the game is easy overall, it still forces you to buy upgrades due to some cheap mechanics. I managed to reach the reach the second boss in the first stage on my first try. I had all my attacks upgraded to their ultimate version and could take out every enemy without any issues. But I stood no chance against the boss. A big part of that was it’s teleporting ability that often spawn it right on top of you. This makes it impossible to dodge contact damage and its attack that happens right after teleport.
If you looking for Bullet Hell but not too hardcore in dark fantasy theme, This could be the game for you. The art style is good, For the gameplay I think it a bit too much grind for upgrade the beginning, Like it need around 1 hr. to be able to unlock new character or weapon. Overall it is a OK game in my view.
One of the best 2D shooters I've played recently) quite interesting mechanics.... at first it seems that the game is quite simple, but it didn't make it easier to hold on for more than 10 minutes, at least for me))) thanks to this, the game seems to tell me "go to the next round and beat your record" definitely recommend)
