The atmosphere and creepiness were definitely the highlight of the game. However, there were a lot of reasons why I couldn't really enjoy it. I couldn't get "used" to the user interface mechanics and buttons. The character's interactions with the environment also felt cheap and fake. Some of the puzzles were weirdly pointless and stupid, such as (spoiler) having to put a guitar on a chair in order for a picture frame to move a few inches so you could get a piece of notebook paper? Or how about when you walk in a room and a bright white icon indicates something important, and when you investigate it you realize it's a "UV spray can" (which prompts you to use the "UV" light. Well you only ever run into those cans in the immediate vicinity of a clue that you need the UV light for. Why bother with the whole "UV" thing at all if you're just going to advertise exactly when and where you need it? But then there are puzzles that offer too much information, or too many weird symbols which causes people like me to way overthink the puzzle. I'm thinking in hieroglyphs and metaphors when it's actually a whole lot simpler than that. I know I played a free demo and not the whole game, but knowing that the demo feels as unfinished as it does gives me a great deal of pause. It's too complicated where it should be simple, and too simple where it should require more thought. These are things that would be worked out with more time and effort. I'm not saying the devs didn't put in a ton of work, but in order for me to recommend it they should have put in more.
A good intro. I enjoyed the full game too.
Westwood Shadows explores the story of Peter Bennet, who gets involved in a surreal mystery in his abandoned hometown. Soon, he finds that not everything in Westwood is what it seems, that there are deadly shadows clawing at his mind, and that the mystery might have more answers than he wants to know. • First-person action • Horror adventure • Puzzles • 17 different maps • 2 weapons (handgun and shotgun) • Unique several mechanics • 4 Boss stages • Resource management system
Its a really good set up and atmosphere. The puzzles were challenging but in good way. Story was intriguing. The setting was well done in making you feel unsettled but not so much scared. For a smaller team this was so extensive and well done, not too many scares within the demo but fingers crossed that its in the full game .
