Weebish Mines

I like this game the way the story takes you into the pixel graphics world. It has a great concept and the gameplay is great. though I'm not good at this game I will continue to play to see how well I can do. This game deserves recognition. I like the challenge and thought it was really fun.

Weebish Mines was suggested to me by Steam a couple of times while I was desperately seeking another metroidvania game. But every time I was turned off by its [strike]dreadful[/strike] low-res graphics, despite the fact that I actually love pixel-art games. And even dirt cheap price wasn't convincing enough, for me it looked rather as a sign of poor quality. However, during a Winter Sale the price got somewhere near the absolute zero and I thought: "Ok, I can give it a try since it costs cheaper than electricity which my PC consumes while I'm playing it". And now I can tell 2 things: 1. This game is definitely NOT a metroidvania. 2. This game is definitely worth buying at a full price! The gameplay mechanics is unique (I didn't have a chance to play Legacy of the Wizard on NES, which Weebish Mines claims to be inspired by, so I can't tell at which extent the mechanics was borrowed from there). The first impression might be that the game is too unforgiving and has poor map design: in the first 20 minutes you can already be stuck in a deadlock with no choice other than starting a new game. However if you don't rage-quit after that and keep playing, quite soon you realize how satisfying it is to make your way through the mines when you know their rules. The game is highly addictive. I've beaten it once, and then could not resist to start a new game to do it once more, but this time thoroughly exploring the whole mines from top to bottom, finding all secrets, fighting all monsters. And by the way, some key objectives are placed on the map randomly for each new game, which adds some replay value. The only shortage of the game is that it's literally too short, even with 100% exploration of the map. But probably a game such as Weebish Mines has to be short to keep its charm. Absolutely recommended!

This game was a big positive surprise for me. It's about finding four pets in one mine. The game world isn't generic, it's just defined by the developer. He really did well. Step by step you learn how to survive in the mine and how to move forward. Always stopped by your own demise and the knowledge of what needs to be done better. You will find many useful items to get ahead and reach new levels with your characters. I had a lot of fun doing this and it would be nice if the developer could design more games in this direction.
