Note: A wonderful friend gifted me a copy of this game. ^^ We Need Space is a yuri, comedic visual novel developed and published by Winter Twilight Productions, LLC. You take on the role of Gwen, an obsessive planner who's having money problems and in a chaotic relationship with Amelia, who's a scatterbrain. The two of them have a major falling out because of some misunderstandings. As hijinks ensue and whatnot, the two of them end up in space on a rocket. Now you might be wondering. How is this possible? Well, it turns out that BlastEm!, a major corporation, can send people off to outer space for the right price. This is perfect if you're looking for some payback, you want to teach someone a lesson, etc. Thus, because of their continual falling out, Gwen pays BlastEm! to send Amelia to space. However, it turns out that someone (probably, Amelia) has done the same to Gwen. There is a major twist and some craziness that happens while they and a few other passengers are in space. ^^ Regarding the gameplay, the story mostly plays out as a linear novel. However, one choice is present towards the latter part of the story, and picking the wrong choice results in the bad ending. There are a few CGs along with a varied soundtrack but no voice acting. No Steam achievements are present, either, and as for the game itself, it won't count towards a user's global total until it's out of "profile features limited". Having gone over the story and gameplay, I'll jump into my thoughts. A good friend gifted me this game when it was first released although it's only recently that I got around to playing it. Feeling in the mood to play something short and comedic, We Need Space seems to fit the bill. Also, it has been a while since I last played a yuri VN. With that said, I'll talk about the story. I like how it starts off, with a commercial by BlastEm! about sending people off to space. This made me laugh right away, and I knew I'd be in for a treat. If only such a service actually existed... (Joking, of course. XD) Then, we get into Gwen's and Amelia's relationship, which starts off sweet but then goes downhill, mainly because Gwen is plagued by financial troubles and Amelia's antics don't help to calm her down. They end up having several misunderstandings, all of which could have been cleared up immediately if they had chosen to talk things out. (Unfortunately, some people in real life are guilty of this, too.) Events escalate when they both end up in space, courtesy of BlastEm! Although this does give Gwen and Amelia a chance to finally talk things out, which Amelia wants but Gwen doesn't, one disaster after another occurs. At one point, there's even some major danger, but thankfully, things work out in a comedically happily ever after. In regards to the writing, I thought it was paced well. Events never felt dragged out, and I didn't notice any typos at all. The story has that comedic, light-hearted feel throughout, which I enjoyed. It's very impressive for a passion project, and total respect to the developer. ^^ As for the art, there is a mix of original backgrounds and photographic ones. I believe that some of the art used is free-to-use, but I'd happily be corrected. I like how well drawn and colored the sprites are, with the usual anime style. The CGs are done very well although I wish that there had been a CG gallery from which I could have viewed obtained CGs afterwards. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3338093811 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3338094204 Regarding the music, I enjoyed listening to the tracks. There are only a few present, but they capture the mood of the scenes they're placed in well. I should note that when I first started the game, I could barely hear the music at all despite the music volume in game was set to the max. This isn't usually a problem with games that I play, so I had to turn up my computer volume in order to hear the music. This is a minor nitpick, though. Overall, would I recommend We Need Space? If you're looking for a short, comedic yuri visual novel that'll have you laughing, then it's worth checking out. I enjoyed the story very much and seeing Gwen's and Amelia's antics. Especially, that ending made me laugh. I wish that there had been Steam achievements, but again, it's a minor nitpick. For the asking price, it's about worth it for the amount of gameplay. It took me around 1.5 hours to complete the story, but I do read slowly, so it might take less time for others. Of course, you can choose to wait for a sale, but it's worth a look. ^^
For more detailed, fully complete, high quality reviews like this, please follow The Introverted Gamer, prioritizing heart and soul always. ^^
This is a good yuri visual novel. While it has a ridiculous premise and wacky, sometimes cringey comedy, the story is surprisingly relatable. The conflict between the couple at the heart of the story is the kind we've all encountered, and the overall moral of the story -- that we all make mistakes, but we just have to be big enough to work through them -- is an important lesson. The game also has surprisingly good music for an indy title.
It's a cute short story about lesbians who get blasted into space. It's pretty funny too :) definitely worth the price and an hour of your time
A fun story about people who need space - IN SPACE! Just enjoyed a second play through - love the dialog and the art
Short, cute, game with a cohesive story. Only one real choice; not that I was looking for a branching narrative. Music isn't memorable, but is pleasant and fits. Good character art, as featured. Feels authentic.
I'm not a huge fan of thumbing down indie games, especially some that do feel like the genuine creative output of a real person who cared about what they made, and I think that's true here. We Need Space is about an hour long comedy game about a break up gone to utter extremes and I don’t think it's aggressively bad or anything, I just found it a little chaotic and slapstick and just far more all over the place for my taste. There’s some solid jokes here and there, the leads are both perfect blends of the worst person you know and someone you can really imagine being friends with. And there were moments of genuine feeling, but it just never came together. I found myself glad it was so short instead of disappointed by that. That all said, especially for single dev team games, if the dev’s reading this please don’t be disheartened, making games is a hard as hell process, even if the end result is I think this ones kinda messy. Keep at it, you’ll only get better at it and making a complete game is more than most will ever manage.
We Need Space is a cute story and pretty funny.
