For 15 dollar or less the game is more than worth it, not more.
Pros: -Regularly goes on sale for under $5, price to content ratio is excellent -Lots of grind and progression systems -Beautiful cartoony art style (if that's your thing) -Open-world exploration -Challenging fights -Living space/character customization -Many things to collect Cons: -Originally intended to be an mmo which means transition to single-player/co-op leaves some unnecessary systems and features (like mounts) -Story typical of mmos -Fetch quests -Feature complete (no more updates) -Unbalanced progression difficulty, random spikes -It doesn't much feel like you're building a unique character, more filling in what's missing with slight variations -Required to use other characters in order to gain more skill points across the board -Only 3 world zones This is essentially a single-player mmo with optional multiplayer that features arpg combat + loot and instanced dungeons with a central hub. Worth it at full price. Can be repetitive but if you like the gameplay loop there's lots of stuff to do. At $10 or under? If you even have a passing interest in this type of game it is excellent value. Shame this didn't end up as intended since it had real potential, but I'm glad the devs didn't abandon it.
Extremely beautiful and very engaging game. Although the characters cap at level 30 you are always incentivized to revisit previously cleared areas for collecting upgrade materials and experiencing certain events you may have missed. The game is based on replayability and the built-in economy emphasizes that very trait. In a good way. You may have heard of the expression 'video game ass video game' ? You will get that right here in spades. Lastly, I need to stress it is criminal that studios like Airship Syndicate with an 100% hit rate have yet to develop their fullest potential, because -you know- money don't grow on trees, and current market conditions don't help either.
Wayfinder me sorprendió bastante.
Excellent game, great combat, great characters, great mechanics. Beginner friendly for noobs but although I havent played that much yet I get the feeling that the endame is also good. It has all of the good elements of a gacha game (open world with grindable dungeons and lots of hidden secrets, good character progression) without any of the downsides (pay to win, limited accesebility of characters)
Actually weird this hasnt gotten more media attnetion as its a PRIME example of what to do with a failed MMO. It sets a delightful example that should be followed by more failed MMO's cuz not only does it preserve the soul and original vision it is genuinely a good game in itself. I bought it on sale for 3 bucks or so thinking it was gonna be woke and a bad game, to me surprise there's a VERY good MMO-esque RPG here with good gameplay and a cool world to explore.
Are you tired of being the chosen hero who has to save the world from some ancient evil while wearing godlike pieces of unnecessary armor? No? Try Wayfinder, you beautiful loot goblin! Become a magical murder machine, stab weird creatures, shoot things, dodge attacks, and collect enough armor sets to make a dragon look financially irresponsible. The combat is actually pretty damn fun, and beating the ever-loving ♥♥♥♥ out of enemies with flashy abilities never gets old. You can explore this lovely world with a friend, as I did. Half of our playtime was spent checking Echoes, looking at new styles, and figuring out which character and weapon to upgrade next. The other half? Grinding for the stuff. Did I mention the grinding? I feel like the grinding deserves its own review. Maxing this game took me over 70 hours. Was it worth it? Hmm... that’s almost 3 full days, or about 2 weeks of 5-hour focused workdays, during which I could learn so many things according to ChatGPT. Does it have bugs? Yes, but so does my PC, and I still play it. Still, underneath this grinding onion, where layer after layer there is even more grinding, there was a genuinely enjoyable action RPG hiding. Exploring, grinding gear, unlocking characters, and turning enemies into decorative - oh yeah, you can decorate your home with trophies of the fallen bosses, or even adopt Mimic and his buddy Gelatinous Cube… by adopt, I mean drop it while grinding. Could it have been better? Absolutely. Could I have spent my time doing something productive instead? We already know. But hey, at least I didn't spend 40 hours arguing with strangers on Reddit. Final score: 7/10 grinding onions
I have been playing since early access and managed to reach the end game where the content was still slowly coming out. I took a long break afterwards and came back to it recently and a lot has changes. Keep in mind, this game is not an MMORPG anymore but a singleplayer/co-op experience. Which in my opinion isnt too bad. I actually enjoyed the changes in balancing and playstyle. Played with friends as well and it was plenty of fun to grind and do missions together. If you enjoy singleplayer or co-op rpg then give this game a shot. It has beautiful art, fun and solid gameplay and some interesting characters and storyline. Personally loved everything about this game and it has a lot of potential. Not sure if there will be future updates but as is, it is a fun experience. I recommend it for both completionists and casual gamers.
Epic. If you long for the early WoW or Wildstar days. This is this game. Solo/coop, jump in jump out. No stress, explore, MMO scale that had to be scaled back to a small RPG. Group with friends, enjoy your face off. At $2.99, this is a literally no brainer. Thee is literally no reality, where this amount of game, content and dev passion = $2.99. I will GLADLY pay for the supporter pack whether I use it or not, just to (hopefully support the devs). How the absolute F is this $3 right now. Absolute Epic, that missed it's mark only because a publisher pulled funding. No dedicated healer classes, I should absolutely hate the devs for this alone, bur at least if I can try to figure it out for the next 6 months, I'm good. But if you at least give me options, I'll make it work. Absolute gem.
