A fantastic rhythm-based game with vibrant visuals, catchy music, and challenging levels that provide hours of energetic fun.

Great fun little game
To say I'm bad at this game is an understatement. But, eventually I think everyone can get the hang of it. The soundtrack is great, so the game is pretty much worth it for that.

This game definitely improves cognitive function. When I first tried it, the controls were daunting and I almost dropped it when I realised how it worked... but after a few tries, I noticed my brain willingly adjusting. The more you play it, It sometimes feels like you're not intentionally making the decisions anymore. Almost like a state of meditation... Interesting stuff.
Waveform, developed and published by Eden Industries, is a distinctive action-puzzle title that builds its entire experience around a single, unconventional idea and then explores it with surprising depth. Set against a stylized journey through space, the game replaces traditional character control with something far more abstract: players guide a beam of light that moves in a continuous wave, shaping its motion by adjusting frequency and amplitude. It’s a concept that sounds technical on paper but quickly becomes intuitive in practice, allowing players to “feel” their way through levels as they learn how subtle adjustments affect movement across the screen. The core mechanic is what defines Waveform, and it is both its greatest strength and its most limiting factor. Instead of directly steering an object, you manipulate the wave itself, stretching or compressing it to align with floating particles while avoiding hazards. Early stages ease players into this system, offering a gentle introduction that feels almost relaxing. However, as new elements are introduced—such as environmental distortions, teleportation mechanics, and moving obstacles—the simplicity begins to unfold into something far more intricate. The challenge shifts from basic navigation to precise control, requiring players to anticipate how each adjustment will ripple forward through the wave’s motion. Progression is structured across a series of levels that gradually increase in complexity, each introducing new twists on the core concept. The game maintains a strong sense of cohesion by continually building on existing mechanics rather than overwhelming the player with entirely new systems. This design approach allows for a smooth learning curve, where each new challenge feels like a natural extension of what came before. At the same time, it ensures that the gameplay remains focused, with every level reinforcing the importance of mastering the central mechanic. One of the more compelling aspects of Waveform is how it accommodates different playstyles. Players can approach it as a calm, almost meditative experience, simply guiding the wave through each stage at their own pace. Alternatively, the game can become a demanding test of precision for those aiming to collect every particle or achieve high scores. This duality gives the experience a surprising amount of flexibility, making it accessible to casual players while still offering depth for those who enjoy refining their skills and optimizing their performance. The presentation complements this design philosophy well. Visually, the game features bright, colorful environments that evoke the vastness of space without becoming overwhelming. The clean, minimalist aesthetic ensures that the waveform remains the focal point, which is essential given how central it is to gameplay. The soundtrack plays an equally important role, blending electronic and ambient elements to create an atmosphere that enhances both the relaxing and challenging aspects of the experience. Together, the visuals and audio establish a tone that is both immersive and understated. Despite its strengths, Waveform does encounter some limitations as it extends its core idea across a full-length game. Because the experience relies so heavily on a single mechanic, there is an inherent risk of repetition. While the introduction of new level elements helps maintain variety, the fundamental interaction remains the same throughout, which can lead to fatigue during longer play sessions. Additionally, certain levels demand a high degree of precision that may feel unforgiving, particularly for players who are less interested in mastering the finer details of the system. Replayability is driven primarily by score chasing and completionist goals. Players who enjoy perfecting their runs will find plenty of incentive to revisit levels, experimenting with different approaches to achieve optimal results. However, those looking for narrative progression or evolving gameplay systems may find the long-term appeal more limited, as the game’s focus remains firmly on its central mechanic rather than expanding into new territory. In the end, Waveform succeeds by committing fully to its unique concept and executing it with clarity and polish. It offers a refreshing departure from more conventional puzzle and arcade games, delivering an experience that is both relaxing and intellectually engaging. While its narrow focus may not appeal to everyone, it gives the game a strong identity and ensures that it stands out within the indie landscape. For players willing to embrace its unusual approach, Waveform provides a rewarding journey that blends creativity, precision, and atmosphere into a cohesive whole. Rating: 8/10
It's a reasonable idea for a pick-up-and-play game, but you've seen all the game has to offer after just a couple of levels. And it doesn't take long to realise that the execution of the idea is flawed in that there's no point trying to think ahead as whatever you try to do in preparation will screw-up the path you've laid directly in front of your cursor. It's not intuitive; you never really get used to how you need to move in order to create the wave shape you require within the half a second you have in which to perform it. The soundtrack isn't anything special either.
