The BGM and SE are absolutely wonderful. The graphic is very good. However. The puzzle itself is very bad. Everytime the game introduces a new mechanic, it isn't actually a new mechanic, it's just an illusion to trick the player's eyes. I cleared all levels to make sure there's nothing I've missed before making this review. For example, there are a pair of trump-blanks which demonstrates the number of eyes of the other blank instead of its own. It's nothing new; it's just making the screen more complicated. Here's an another example. There's ??? blanks which does not notice you about its number of eyes. However you can easily know by dragging multiple blocks above it and see when the blank opens its eyes. So it's yet another visual confusion rather than a proper puzzle. The later stages demonstrate all that visual confusions in one screen so you will never get the proper layout in your mind. I took a screenshot and just wrote the numbers on the blanks to solve them. This is an awful experience. You know what? If the game demonstrated just the plain puzzles without the visual illusions, like chapter 1, that would be much more fun to play. At least, do the puzzles have aha-moment? Nope. TR;DL: Don't buy this game, the soundtrack is better than the game.
a grotesque mixture of lights out and those placement puzzles where everything has to fit the grid, but shapes here can overlap, with the goal of opening up all the eyes. can't rotate but if everything's in place, the level ends. no fail state, so no real need for undo, just keep moving things around. there's a reset button to hold to avoid accidents. zero keyboard support, no hotkeys, not even esc, just alt+enter. and click & drag only, can't click to pick up, click to place. 90 levels in 6 packs, everything is unlocked from the start, despite appearances. on-screen level numbers but none on level select, not cool. quitting leads to the main menu, not level select, not cool. new mechanics are introduced throughout with less than ideal static screens, not cool. however, they're only shown when the first level of a pack is loaded from level select, not on every reset like in some other games, that's something. one is a tile that extends what's on top of it to its left and right, covering 3 cells instead of 1. green question marks hide the number of eyes, only revealed when the necessary amount covers them. black and white eyes only open when covered with an even or odd number of tiles, respectively. then there are broken up symbols, only covering one half opens the other half, and nothing new in the last pack. at first I thought it was impossible to tell what's what after shapes are placed, as they can overlap each other. open eyes mean something is above that cell, but is it an L-shape, the 1x2 one or what? but there's a highlighter on the right, click to turn it on, then arrows cycle through the pieces. it remains enabled until turned off, only need to mess with it at the start of a new level (not after a reset), which is still not good enough. and I still would've preferred some sort of indication on the grid without the extra steps. settings are a windowed mode toggle for a resizable window and separate music and sfx toggles, no volumes. the graphics are what they are, see above. chiptune soundtrack, up my alley but not enough variety. and while the 3 options are individual icons on the title screen, instead of 3 more buttons, you have to scroll one by one between start, credits and quit. wtf? not exactly my thing, as I hate both major components (I like tetris-like placement to make rows disappear, not this tile-covering type, and lights out just stresses me out), but there are no major issues and with a $1 full price it's really cheap, so thumbs up. I did give up near the end of packs 4 and 5, too much trial & error for my taste. pack 6 was also left unsolved, just more of the same.
overall a good casual/puzzle game. can recommend it. the price of this game is good.
2019.06.29(y/m/d) - Perfect complete the Game!
this game made me realize I only have like 2 braincells 10/10
Watching Delusion certainly shows potential as a puzzle game. It has the right kind of simplistic premise to be compelling in and of itself. However, the additional obstacles that get introduced can be a tad unintuitive and once the game decides to really crank up the difficulty by combining all these various requirements in order to solve the puzzles, it gets tedious fairly fast. A bunch of the additional “mechanics” are just obfuscation of information, which is never a good sign for a puzzle game. Others do tax your spatial awareness somewhat and as such are much more welcome. However, at some point, the game just forces so many different parameters at you, that your eyes will start glazing over as you simply do the old trial-and-error routine, which is never a good sign for a puzzle game. As such, I can’t really recommend this title as is. Especially because the soundtrack becomes rather grating and has a nasty habit of switching between tracks without warning in the middle of a level.
Really difficult. A hint feature and a more thorough explanation would go a long way.
