Lead your band of mercenaries to victory in a procedurally generated fantasy world. Manage your resources, customise your army and wage epic battles against orc clans, barbarian hordes and legions of the undead. The art style may be cute, but this tactical roguelike is anything but forgiving.

This is a cheap little game that really is quite fun. It has a variety of different ally and enemy troops, leading to interesting fights and battles. There are a number of unique and interesting bosses, each of which felt very different to the last and the mercenary encounters were always interesting and fun. Not to mention that the 3 starting classes all felt very different to play as. For less than $4 you really can't go wrong and for such a small indie developer and I was surprised to enjoy it as much as I did. I would recommend this game as it is but if the developer updated it even just once I would feel like I got more than my moneys worth. 7/10
Extremely poor balancing. RNG is the entire game. There's little to no skill involved. It's like getting a root canal. Honestly, it feels like they set the balance of damage, resources, and all that, and just went with their first set. There was no play testing of any kind.
This is a nice and easy going autobattler. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNGg0GCKYao
Like the Dominions series, but lighter... way, way lighter.
7/10, quite good, worth the price. Quick small game and It's only 3 bucks so don't expect much. You can finish it in two hours but if you know what are you doing then in an hour too. Tips: -I could only beat the final boss with the warrior hero, the others are weaker, they need balancing. -Only go off the path if there is something to get on the first grid. Don't even pay attention to the enemies, camps far off the road, they are only there to trick you. -Don't be scared to avoid enemy groups if you can. Think about what is ahead of you on the path, then decide in what order you want to do them. To the dev: -It reminds me of the good old simple online flash games. Very nostalgic, nice work! -Pls. balance the heroes if you can. -On the third map my game crashes when loads in skeleton battles. -The troop placement was a little annoying, I couldn't see where I could place units. You should implement some hint for the players. Maybe actual grids, or changes on the ground color or the grass or something so we wouldn't have to click around to find the places. -If you plan to extend the game in the future then: pls implement manual saving, or save slots, I recommend adding more, interesting bosses, make it so that if you have remaining undeployed troops after a lost battle you can go back to the world map and try the battle again with what you have left. Of course the same should apply to the enemy - you wouldn't have to fight again what you have already killed. Maybe make it worth in some way to venture out far off of the path as a high risk high reward thing.
Game Score: 3/10 Warlike is is a tactical battle game where you put units on the battlefield in a rock-paper-scissors like fashion. Archers in the back, warriors up front, then press go. The battles are all pretty straight forward with no real advantage to either side as long as you manage your resources properly. The only downside is that the game doesn't work. Every 3rd or 4th battle I got into it would get stuck on a loading screen and then I'd have to restart. When I'd load the game up again the battle would be "complete" which sounds good, but it actually hurts me because if you play battles well you GAIN resources. So I lost out on that gain. What really irritates me is there's ZERO benefit to exploring the map other than the road because if you step off the path you're "randomly" ambushed and get resources stolen from you and there's NOTHING you can do about it. I say "randomly" because it's almost a guarantee you'll be ambushed. It's like 8/10 times you'll get your stuff stolen, so if you ever leave the path you lose more resources than you'll gain. Very poor design... Pros: - Clean appealing graphics - Simple and fun game play (when it works) Cons: - Terrible map mechanics - Constant crashing I don't think anybody should play this until they fix their issues, even then it's not that great of a game. I think this is at best a proof of concept that requires MUCH more thought put into it.
There is potential here, and if you can get it on the cheap it might be worth it to hold out for updates. As it is now, the game is a bit underwhelming and frustratingly minimal in functionality. Excursions off-course are seemingly pointless. Game controls are very limited. The game is rather unforgiving, too, difficult to get past the second level (or maybe I'm just terrible at it). I think the following could make it better for the future: 1. Make it so you can recall units from the battlefield (perhaps right-clicking them?) 2. Allow players to set targeting priorities for units (e.g. have the archers target on the bosses) 3. Make it more rewarding to venture off-course (perhaps free units or upgraded functions) 4. Add some kind of leveling tree to make it more interesting to keep playing 5. Offer the opportunity to restart a battle if you fail instead of simply saying "defeated" and ending the game. 6. Add in some kind of (single use?) trap or wall elements to be able to control the flow of enemies And last but not least: please make the dialogue with mercenary camps and end bosses skippable. After you see it the first time, it's tedious to keep clicking.
Let me start off by saying I like Warlike. It reminds me of old, simplistic Flash strategy games, and at least for me that is a huge positive and the reason I bought the game to try it. There is much room for improvement though. But rather than talk about the ways Warlike could be expanded, I think there are actually 2 critical quality-of-life issues and one really bad gameplay mechanic that should be addressed before anything else. Both of the first issues have to do with fielding your troops. #1: There is no indicator that shows you where you are about to place a group of units. The fielding is laid out in a grid and a group is placed in a cell by clicking it. But because there is no indication of either where the cells are exactly or of which one you currently are hovering over, it is extremely easy to accidentally place groups in the wrong cell, especially the first group you place. #2 is that there is no way to recall your troops and rearrange them before you start the battle. Combined with the above issue and the fact that you can't retreat from a battle after the encounter begins means that it is way too easy to make a simple fielding mistake and doom your army before they even start fighting. Just a button in the top-right of the pre-battle screen that resets your side of the board would be a massive improvement. The last issue, the bad gameplay mechanic, is the ambushes. If you wander off of the pre-designated path on the world map, you have a (very high percent) chance of triggering an ambush, which just takes away a random amount of your resources without you being able to do anything. Each step you take can trigger the ambush again, until you get back on the path. This is just bad and non-interactive, and it discourages you from exploration because it is essentially never worth it to go off the path after the other towns/camps/whatever because you will quickly deplete your resources down to zero. If an ambush triggered a battle instead, it would be a way way better. At least then you wouldn't just be flatly punished for wandering off the path to explore the huge random world that is there. As I said, I like the game. I'm going to keep playing it. I can think of a lot of additional features and expansions that could be added here, but my above points are by far the most critical issues. Warlike is still worth it for the price, in my opinion.
Fun little game with great combat mechanics and art style! one thing I would add would be some form of UI scaling. other than that solid 8/10 I don't really get all the negative reviews, hating on indie games is plain stupid. If you want a "triple a" experience go pay 30 quid to EA or some other company with an army of programmers. I personally prefer to get a game that's made by 1 person and costs 3 quid, it might not be perfect but you can tell it's made by someone who actually cares about their work.
I like this concept and I like the gameplay. However, I have never ever made it to the 3rd map because the game crashes EVERY TIME at some point. If you start upgrading your units, then it crashes on next fight 80% of time. I didn't mind buying it to support the developer, but this game is not a game, it is a demo of 1-2 levels before CRASH. Act accordingly. UPDATE: My first 2 hours were spent with the first hero ONLY. I have been playing tonight with the other 2 champs, and no crash for an hour, but died b4 end of 2nd map every game. I'll keep ya'll posted, but already I am happy with it minus the crashes. Update 2 - Played about 5 more hours using different heroes and no problem all the way to a win. Switched back to the first champ and AGAIN got 1-5 hexes from 3rd Town and CRASH. I repeated it 2 more times. DEFN A CRASH BUG, but that is the time it happens.
