Hey this is a very interesting game! You have to swap to the partner who's colour matches the enemies attack to defend yourself. This makes sense in the context of the game. I however Can't recommend it, and here's why: (also beware spoilers below)
The good:

This game has a lot of heart put into it. The story is fun and is comprehensive, from what I've seen. The humour is sometimes show, don't tell, sometimes not.
The gameplay is unique and interesting, I've not seen a game that tries to blend vollyball and bullet hell mechanics together like this before!
Each enemy attack has its own noise so you know who to swap to.
At least when there are two characters, the swapping mechanic is pretty fun! unfortunately, it doesn't stay that way...

The less than Ideal (for me):

This game is not easy. At no point did it feel like I was able to get through even basic fights without struggling.
The swapping mechanic is ONLY enjoyable with two people, because the controls only allow you to swap forward. Later in the game you get a third Ally, who exists only to make the game more difficult, not to make it more enjoyable.
While each ally is colour co-ordinated, and has its own noise for needing to swap to that ally, this is where things begin to fall apart. You see, The bosses of this game have lots of hitpoints. and you have 3. and that doesn't get better with more partners. It gets worse, so much worse, by the time you get to the chapter 4 boss. You see, this boss swaps EVERY attack to the partner you just swapped from, so you must cycle TWICE every single attack, because you cannot swap backward, only forward. and as I said, this game is hard, so trying to fanatically do double swaps is both frustrating, and unfun.
fights outside of boss fights are completely pointless, and unavoidable. You get NO rewards for winning other than not getting a game over. Enemies ALWAYS move faster than you, and will detect you no matter what.
Swapping feels bad because even if you swap to the right colour before the enemy attack hits you, you'll still get hit and take damage. (the background image must fully switch, which takes longer, for you to count as being on the correct colour.)
You cannot play any way other than defensively. you must block three hits and then counter the fourth attack. Since there is no leveling up, party skills, or ANY other mechanics other than this one colour swapping one, you are forced to play one playstyle that is, a bit clunky in its current state.
You can't customize your controls, and in the overworld you can only use WASD, but in battles you can use arrow keys or WASD, with ONLY left shift (meaning WASD is not usable).
There is an indicator that tells you when can counter, but there is no indicator on your characters hand to show when you are countering. you just... need to figure this out. Even something as simple as the hands glowing during when you hit the spacebar to counter would give me a good idea when it can be done.
Overall this game had a lot of potential, but its just too rough to try and push past the 4th boss, whos constantly backswapping colours make it impossible to have ANY fun or feel stylish about beating. Its just... unfunly hard. 6/10 Game! Fun for a while, but it gets too hard and too clunky to be enjoyable.

"Vollema" is a poorly made experimental RPG that hinges on an unengaging gimmick... your attacks and defenses rely on colour-matching as you switch between various colours as part of the combat system. This is the kind of thing that amateur developers push a lot because it seems "different" and therefore "good" after a few beers, but in reality this kind of gimmick, which has been done dozens of times before and never succeeds, just isn't fun. Which leaves the RPG itself, and that isn't any good either... it's easy to see why this was a huge flop on Steam Direct. There's an overwhelming amount of mediocre Visual Novel/E-book style cutscenes in this game. The developers failed one of the most basic, fundamental requirements of game design.. "Show, don't tell." So you'll spend a huge amount of time not playing the game, but clicking through endless lines of poorly written VN text cutscenes because the developers couldn't work out how to relate their narrative through the game mechanics, and decided instead it would be better to compete with reading a book for your time. We're here to play games, not read through hours of garbage intersituals. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. The graphics aren't great, "Baby's first Wacom tablet" billboarded sprites on a low poly 2.5d backdrop. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free title won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.
the art sytle is so cute and reminds me of paper mario but id love the option to change the controls or at least use both shift keys becuase its to hard for me 😔
Vollema
