If Metroidvania and Soulsborne had a baby but has down syndrome
i really dont know what to say about this. i love and hate it at the same time. i love everything 'but' the game mechanic. the aesthetic background, the outfits, the sword art and its style i love how the outfits change your entire character, while this has ver little effect on actual moves as they remain the same, it does change a few animations which are uniquer for each outfits I found myself using the starting Danache Summoner outfit due to it's tiptoe animation for jumping. i really want to like this game, but just the game mechanic is pissing me off you dodge pretty good but the enemies track you to an crazy degree making sure you'll always be hit btw when you hit a eneme, they just freeze up (terrible in my opinion, no visual signal) i love how theres wide variety of weapons but sadly they all deal the same amount of damage (cant even upgrade a weapon) nice easter egg items btw

"Void Memory" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This is a very badly made platformer attempting to ripoff far superior games like Salt + Sanctuary with "soulslike" difficulty, and this does have a lot of difficulty... in appealing to gamers. I's clunky, unfun, with phoned in pixelcrap graphics... I guess this is a console reject or something. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. This game is fairly dated at 8 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $15 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. I didn't pay money, but I still feel ripped off.
Void Memory is a challenging and fun souls-like metroidvania, reminiscent of Death's Gambit: Afterlife. There are lots of tough areas and bosses which makes for addictive, intense gameplay. Void Memory often slips into the "frustrating" or "annoying" territory with some of the level designs and boss fights, but if you can keep your composure, it pays off. If you're looking for an indie metroidvania that has some great challenges to overcome, check it out. It's a great deal considering it's free now, but I am happy to have paid $12 for this a few years ago. PRO-TIP: The final boss is very hard. Here's my strategy to beat him: First, head back to that cloudy area with the stone dragons and stone columns to fight a new boss. That boss will drop Phantasmagorial Sword which has very high DPS. Equip the mana stone for i-frames and Old Knight's Sheath for sword damage increase. Equip Stimulant for 2 full heals and the Creation subweapon to refill the Stimulant heals once. If he hits you into the air, dash downward to the ground and avoid getting juggled. You're going to need to chip at him and then dash away before he telegraphs his attacks. Get the pattern down and you'll get it. Hard fight, too hard IMO!
Not Recommended. Trash. Simple and pure trash. This was paid before, became free and finally decided to try it... regret. Been a while since i played such a trash game. Story is just a bunch of nonsensical strings attached together, if there was something, maybe it became lost in translation. Gameplay infers from Souls, but this became the proof of concept of something Miyazaki mentioned in one of his interviews, which in a few sentences is if you want to make a game hard just make it bad, and bozo dev here extrapolated all expectations. Biggest gripe with the game is that there is really only 2 viable playstyles if you are a functional normal human being instead of average asian no-life basement sememold strut. All the magic and special moves are just flashy conffeti, a pity since some of them looked really cool admitedly. I was also even expecting some cool gimmicks on Final and Super boss weapons, but nothing but disapointment sadly. One of the playstyles is basically a cheese exploit, which is what i used to 100% the game in a reasonable time, on the premise korean trash bozo developer can't fix the bugs and polish the game, but on the case of it being a feature, this trash bozo dev at least has self-awareness, props to it. In Conclusion, spare yourself, avoid this game, not worth it. Anyway, my lost time can't be rewinded, but as a final gift maybe i should give some tindies to Sony and BamCo on courtesy of trash bozo dev since this was a paid game before and all.
