You join forces with Arris Fern, an ex-terrorist who took revenge on her father 8 years ago, and the responsible for the Biokernel activation, and Hex Reader, an ex mafia boss, both trying to make amends for their past in the middle of a war that is only a small piece of a darker phenomenon, the Vitakrosis effect, where the spirit of revenge threatens to claim the lives of the entire world.
In all of this darkness, a positive force rises to the challenge and helps you bring joy and hope to the world, the Maidbots.

I like the unique stunning anime artwork, especially the maidbot stills. Glance, it might seem rough, worth grabbing. [ACT] 死んで覚える系ステルス系アクション。クセがあって一見独特な絵柄だがいまのAI製絵にはない魅力があると感じた。ボス撃破で製作することができるメイドボットの絵がいちいちかわいい。
The developer, Bal, puts his heart and soul into this game, and it really shows. From the story, to the art, to the gameplay, this is a passion project, and oh man I am so excited to see where this goes. The mechanics are a fun bullet hell (and this is coming from someone who is terrible at said genre), all while gathering parts to create anime waifu bots (including a cockroach, that's so epic). Bal has become a sweet friend of mine as well, to the point where he had me worried sick while he was making this game, please support him and his project, he surely deserves it.
I'm really impressed with the work on this game. The art, gameplay and character building you can see thus far is a giant step up from the first game, and it's really fun collecting all the maidbots. I have yet to get Kyvzaki, the berserker, but my favorite so far is F-Mar because of how chaotic she is and it's hilarious whenever I forget to respect her range and nuke myself due to my own skill issue. I also love that she's canonically stupid, I vibe with it. Vu is also super fun too and is one of the best combatant ones to play as with the damage she builds from you getting hit with the shield active. Overall the city and maidbot combat is super fun! The graphic novel sections are visually pleasing and I can't wait to see more of the character development as time goes on, and I love dialogue hints given from people like Wagie that alude to events to come, like Wagie talking about true friends for example. And for the parts you play as Arris the little bug drone GIVES ME LIFE. Definitely check this game out if you like stealth games, shooter games or both, since both aspects of it are fun as heck ♔
This crazy woman has an army of Maidbots! They'll use military-grade weapons but refuse to help clean my room!
Vindictive Drive 2 has gone through a handful of sweeping changes so I'm updating my review to reflect the current game state and I'll talk about what I like about the game and what could be improved. Long story short: This game managed to carve its own identity separate from what it was in previous iterations and even its prequel by pivoting towards Maidbots (+ slapping the Maidbot Archive subtitle) and turning into a top-down bullet hell game. I'm way more interested (compared to when the game was still in its infancy) to see how the game, world, and story are fleshed out as more content is added. THE FUN STUFF: - Bullet hell focus + Maidbots: The bullet hell gameplay kept growing on me the more I play. It's a lot more refined compared to the game's early stages and I can actually see it pairing with the maidbot gameplay really well. I recall explicitly using Vu a few updates ago to obliterate some of the bosses but the arrival of new maidbots shakes things up a lot (I've been mainly playing with New Jersey, Rei, and Zero with her new abilities). There's a nice ebb and flow dodging enemy bullets and utilizing different maidbots. - Maidbot designs: Peak. Keep on cooking. - Art: The glow ups every character keeps getting with each update are such a far cry from the art of the dev's previous games yet they still manage to capture the essence of what I liked about the art in those games. The art style is one that I will always look forward to seeing. Again, keep on cooking. - Voice actors: A welcome addition. Makes the game feel a lot more alive instead of just having static dialog. I'll note that the mic quality kind of varies between different maidbots, but it's not at a point where it bothers me too much since having VAs in the game alone is a rad addition. - Humor: Rei saying "skill issue" after I die pretty much sums up this game's humor. Still roughly the same back when it first released. Having voice actors does increase the potential for funnies, but there's still classics like stealing 1500 alfajores. THE "Could be better": - QoL additions: There's a handful of nitpicky things that could improve the game but I'll just name the biggest thing I encountered when playing: lack of volume control for sound effects. I'm hoping sometime that it can be tuned since the current volume control only changes the music (and also the SFX was so loud that my mic was catching them when I was streaming to my friends). I'll keep note of other QoL tidbits this game could have the more I play and the more it gets updated. - Story: Not really a negative point but I'm noting this down since it's been at the same stage since the September 2024 update. The dev did note that there's a big revamp for it coming so I'm interested to see how the story changes. - The removal of Wagie's yapping (unless I'm stupid and I can't locate it): Arguably the most critical change that requires refinement. How am I supposed to play without reading Wagie's 20+ lines of yapping? Vindictive Drive 2 has gone a long way from what it was when it first released, and I'm eager to see where the dev continues to take it.
This game... is phenomenal! it is a take on the bullet hell genre that i have not seen before with it's open world map (I haven't played a lot of bullet hells though, but it seems original.). when comparing this to VD1, this game feels incredibly smooth, and with a new play style, is truly the apex of the franchise. i see myself putting a lot more time into this game. one of the only problems i have with this game is that the Marauders' Wake and the Tomboy Mine are very, VERY, laggy. this is most likely a problem with my device though, or if it isn't than the developer will most likely fix it. 11/10 the masterpiece we didn't deserve.
Highly recommend this game. Fun, good learning curve for the gameplay, and the dev listens to feedback and works very hard to improve the game for players.
Vindictive Drive 2 has now made it onto steam! I'm writing this at the early access stage of the game, hoping to update soon after the full release. Since the full story hasn't been released yet, I will omit that portion out. First off, a lot of the core gameplay returns from VD1 such as the stealth sequences and action gameplay. In addition to this, you also have some new gadgets to interact with in the sections you play as Arris. A new gameplay mode with missions has been added. This mode is reminiscent of the moments you play as the maid robots in VD1, but upgraded and added to in so many ways. You're able to build these robots in game using parts that obtained from the mission mode. Going on the map for the missions reminded me of XCOM almost, which I appreciated greatly. The maidbots come in a variety of designs with different kits to experiment with playstyle wise. I'm looking forward to making a tier list for them once they're all implemented! The art in VD2 shares a similar artstyle to VD1, but greatly enhanced. As a fan of Bokensha Studios, it's been really impressive to see the art progress over time. Like VD1, VD2 also has a plethora of illustrations that suit the themes and narrative quite well. Highly recommend for those that are fans of visual novels, tech noir/futuristic settings, and stealth based games!
Vindictive Drive 2: Maidbot Archive is an eccentric, anime-inspired bullet-hell action RPG created by Bokensha Studio. Players form teams of voiced maid-like mechs, known as maidbots, navigate a dystopian metropolis, engage in Souls-like boss battles, and reveal narrative arcs reminiscent of comic novels. -Ambitious Scope: As a small indie developer, the game offers intricate systems for exploration, profound combat mechanics, character collection, and voiced maidbots. The combat is particularly engaging, especially during dungeon expeditions. -Future Atmosphere: The game features flash-era anime aesthetics blended with cyberpunk elements, complemented by professional voice acting that enhances the game's atmosphere, along with an outstanding soundtrack. -Responsive Developer: The developer is also responsive, providing frequent updates, addressing bug reports, and incorporating community-driven content. -Gameplay: Some segments can be challenging, and menu interactions may occasionally feel awkward and confusing, improvements have been made over time, including better map clarity. The game does present a steep learning curve, but with time, players can grasp its mechanics without excessive difficulty. Vindictive Drive 2 is an ambitious indie fusion, merging bullet-hell combat, character collection, and anime-inspired visuals. Its notable strengths include robust combat, a diverse array of maidbots, and a developer who is receptive to player feedback. I score this game 10 stones out of 10 rock and stone!
