A straight forward RPG Maker meat grinding festival. Lots of battles, lots of gear, lots of potions. It's good ole' fashioned turn based fun. You can follow the main story line, do side quests or look for secret bosses. Very enjoyable. Rating 7.8/10
I did a stream of this game on Facebook at Lozza's Emporium if you're interested in seeing some gameplay {will be streaming this again sometime at the end of the year}. When you first start the game you are given the opportunity to choose your four characters/classes, and even name them. Once you choose these 4 they are stuck with you for the rest of the duration of this game! This will either make or break your game. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you take a healer of some sort {I choose the Cleric personally}, everything else you can chance. The replay-value is certainly there with trying out new characters and getting different dialogue options and even items from certain people you interact with. It's about 15+ hours to complete, it's easy to grasp, the music is great, and it's the simple gameplay which makes this a great game.
Following in the great footsteps of Wormskull and Ashes of the Night, Verdungo delivers bigtime with many different classes of characters to choose in the beginning (much replay value) to set up your 4 party members. From there are quick and challenging battles (many different creatures and bosses), exploring, quests, and so much to do in towns and collecting various items that can be traded for upgrades. Throw in fishing, mining, alchemy, and crafting to upgrade items and weapons and armor. Allocate points to characters to strengthen various attributes. Played 18 hours and still many areas yet to explore. Verdungo is a fantastic rpg well worth the money. Highly recommended for all rpgers.
Seems fun so far, enjoying the playing of the game, even if I prefer there to be any sort of information available for the player to have an base understanding of classes and what they are like before picking them, and any idea of what the skillset of the classes will entail, and whether or not you would even desire to level the skills that you get in comparison to what you know you will get and want to use later. Also as a sidenote for the developer: When buying equipment at a shop, knowing the stats that the items will provide listed somewhere in the description or in the UI to know whether or not you would want the item at all is infinitely better than to have to pay an upfront cost just to find out what the stats are to know whether you want to buy it or not. Because although one could assume that a steel falchion that costs 125 will have better(or a slight variation of a sidegrade) better stats than a the steel longsword. Since they both have the same power, so they look exactly the same to the palyer and so it may considered just to be a flavor difference without acquiring the falchion to know it has +3% hit chance in your game to know that it is simply superior to the longsword in your game without any knowledge of anything other than the price difference(when attack is the same since that is the only stat shown in the UI when purchasing weapons to know whether or not if there is a mechanical difference between the two(when there are more than that)).
Another fantastic game from Wolfs Moon Studios. Honestly I've made it a point to buy every single title this developer brings out. The attention this developer pays to their fans, players and audience is phenomenal. Whether the press is good or bad they address every post and comment and attempt to make the game fair and fun for everyone. It's not often I see a developer re-assess their vision to fit the community instead of saying "this is just the way we want to make it". It's refreshing, honestly. Enough about the dev, more about the game. Verdungo has a great oldschool RPG feel to it that beckons me back to playing FF 1 on the NES. It's chock full of quests, factions to gain reputation with, crafting and big baddies to battle. I was pleasantly surprised with the difficulty after starting so easy and then ramping up quite quickly to be a challenging game. The boss fights are intense and will take time and effort to actually beat. You can easily beat the regular game without challenging the "end game" portion of Verdungo...but where's the fun in that? No one played FF7 to beat it without killing Emerald Weapon. Be prepared for a bit of a grind to take them down though. I enjoy the ability to choose your own starting classes, and I have started over a few times to choose 4 new classes to see what the game holds. Each time I unlock new little snippets of NPCs giving me rewards for what my characters can do based on their stats. That's a new aspect the last 2 games didn't have. The game has plenty of content, plenty of things to do and lots of playability. Easily worth the money spent! All-in-all Verdungo is another one of those games that will enjoy a high place in my library for when I want to go back to it again and again.
Another great game by Wolf's Moon. Well worth the price and because of the different parties available to use it has good replay value. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys RPGs. .
I have played many of the other games. I am going back and catching up on Wolf's Moon games that I missed. Verdungo is a great side quest sort of game. Enjoyable to play.
I believe I have now played all of Wolf's Moon Studio's games. I recommend playing any or all of them.
So, finished another game from this dev. Oh man they real look and play all the same. The story of this one is....is there a story? The kingdom is under attack, so the king sends his best man away. This man and his party now seeks a way back to the the kingdom....and that's it. What more can I say: a) the dev should take some hours and try to use the resources from RPGMaker better....just look at the size of his games you would mean that something very big comes this way.....and not the usual RPGMaker game. b) maybe playtesting would be nice. I mean I was a little surprised. Gaining the big ship now was the time to seek extra dungeons and hidden places....only to find one castle and after a short fight the game was finished. Looks like you can skip the part about rescue the king, fight the bad guy and than gets an order from the king to figth the real Bad Guy. c) alchemy and crafting is nice...but in the end you only use them for getting some quest items and high potions. Weapons and armor...useless you find/buy better on the way. Same goes for fishing...the best part about fishing in other games is that you may find a hidden treasure chest. Like the other games I would only recommend this game if it is on sale.
The game is purposely made to look old school. It's challenging but if you're smart and tenacious, then you'll enjoy playing this game for hours on end.
