Vektor Z

Vektor Z is a 2D retro pixel unabashed ripoff of Asteroids (copyright Atari 1979). Differentiating from the game, Vektor Z includes a number of game modes centred around the Asteroids core theme, and for some reason has the jarring, incongruous inclusion of zombies, which thematically just doesn't work. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics (but at least it displays in widescreen). The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is often used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs, although in this case the game appears to have been made sincerely. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. If you really want to play Asteroids, you can play it for free in a web browser. If you want an updated experience, Atari have published a similarly priced, updated version of the original Asteroids on Steam with much smoother, slicker graphics here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1700890/Asteroids_Recharged/ Vektor Z has the eye watering price of $7 USD (for an Asteroids ripoff!), it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam, as well as official versions of the game being readily available. Certainly, the hitpieces the stalker/developer here has linked up are false and misleading (for example, I've given positive reviews to 2D indie games in the past, but the "developer" here chooses to lie about that), but cyberbullies don't care about facts, they just want to intimidate and attack those for providing the truths the developer can't emotionally accept. This unhinged, unstable and harmful behavior from the developer is utterly unacceptable, and is a chilling attempt to silence the truth. Now, you can look at the objective facts of my review, and then have a look at how this reviewer is attacking and intimidating reviewers, and suddenly the overwhelming rejection of these crappy GameMaker Studio ripoffs makes perfect sense. I will not be intimidated or silenced by stalkers and bullies.

I have had the pleasure of watching Zack create this game and it's been amazing seeing the progress first hand! You can tell he's put SO many hours into this game! He'd have ideas and then you'd just see them come to life. This game gives me so much nostalgia playing Asteroids as a kid! Other space games tend to be repetitive with levels but this one always has a new challenge you have to face! You can customize the color of your ship and get power ups for it! In game there are certain asteroids you shoot which will reveal a star! You then collect the stars which helps you purchase the ship of your choice and power ups to make you unstoppable and destroy all things coming at you. You also have the opportunity to get weapons during a level. Blowing up UFOs, defeating Space ZOMBIES, etc will reveal a weapon that you can then use to keep fighting off the inevitable. I also love that there's a top scoreboard which reminds me of those arcade games and how fun it was to put your name on it back in the day and see if anyone has outscored you! What a fun challenge to always be on top, haha. I definitely recommend it to anyone! I look forward to seeing what else the creator has in store in future games! :)

This game is like if Asteroids and Ecstasy had a baby. Challenging, yet rewarding. The old school feel of flying your ship around, protecting mama, and blasting those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ asteroids is all you really need in life. This game was made by an amazing developer and definitely deserves more recognition. P.S. Check out his Best BJ game. You'll be pleasantly surprised ;)

Vektor Z - another Asteroids-inspired offering by Zaxtor99. It's a GameMaker Studio game with amateurish visuals and sound. It's not bad.. it's actually quite charming. If you are a member of the bottom-dwelling, cro-magnon gamers on Steam, who lack symbolic thought and ability to comprehend abstractions, you'll probably want to pass on this game. Unless you're a flat-earther, then a 2D space game might be perfect for you! You get an Asteroids-like experience with six different modes. Not all of these modes were personally enjoyable, but none were actively horrible. I prefer a more standard experience, but having options increases replay value. There's a leaderboard for high score competitions. For those who despise 2d games, what better way to stick it to the 2d game developer than taking all of the first page of leaderboard spots? You could use it to advertise indie hidden gems in the 3D gaming space like the EBOLA series or Ghost_RUS's "The Searcher Wild West Adventure". Might not be possible, but at least one could have their developer name take up all of the top spots for free advertising. Reading over a negative review for this game, I'm confused about the typos. Perhaps Zaxtor99 has fixed the typos since that review? Who knows. I would need to spend more time with the various modes to critique them further. I hate the mode with the flying bar, but that might be more a lack of skill and personal preference thing than poor design. There's a coherent game underneath some amateurish design. The amateurish design gives Zaxtor99's games an authentic feel to them. Out of the 9 Zaxtor99 games I've played, Vektor Z is definitely in the top half. There's enough to distinguish this from someone's uploaded class project Asteroids clone that the $4.99 price tag, albeit a bit elevated compared to many Asteroids clones, is still a bargain.
