Then one day a strange group of people appear near a mysterious monument. After the encounter, Rover's entire world as he knew it is about to get flipped upside down.
After being teleported away from his home, Rover finds himself in unfamiliar lands, stranded and alone. What begins as a simple search to find his friends and his way back home will become a quest to save the world. His life will be anything but simple from then on.

There are three additional difficulty modes for players to enjoy:
Beginner Mode reduces damage taken & increases EXP earned.
Hard Mode limits the party max to 3 members [Opposed to 5], requiring more precise action management in battle.
Story Mode boosts the stats of all characters, reduces damage taken, grants regen, and doubles EXP earned, so players can focus more on the story, and less on the battles and combat.

Over the years, I've played a ton of RPGMaker games. I do like to play them, and I also like playing this particular game. I truly enjoy searching for the many items and secrets that can be found in this game. Actually, I prefer looking for secrets to fighting. The game has an intriguing plot, which is further enhanced by a distinctive quest system. I think this is one of the better RPGMaker games that I have played, and best of all, you can download it for free. Well done developer, well done.
It's an old school RPGMaker game with an updated touch. I personally played those games to exhaustion in the 2000's and missed that simple look which made the game much more challenging to be great. I just ended the intro, starting arc 1. The story is very engaging, no clichés so far. I can tell each character has their own personality and it made me really want to memorize who is related to who in the village. I'm playing on hard mode, it's very balanced so far, making me have to think about my in battle choices and I loved the out of combat skills, that mechaninc added so much to the planining of where to head first in the map. Will keep upgrading the comments when I get ifurther into the game and definetely will play to the end.

I can not believe this is a free game, it rivals any game that I paid for. There is so much to do and you will not get bored. I love that is has a quest log to keep everything straight. You can tell the developer put a lot of love and passion into the game. I like that it has a couple modes of getting around to make traveling to all the locations a breeze. I like the story line that keeps you in suspense with twists and turns you didn't see coming. The developer is quick to fix any bugs that arise. it is rpg maker I believe but done so well. Lots of stuff to find and secret places. there are logs for everything you find and collect. The concoction option to make stuff. Each character has cool skills. This game did not disappoint if you are on the fence about playing just due it you will enjoy it. Very fun and well done game.
Game kind off gave me a kick in the butt when I first started, but honestly I'm used to it a bit because of Shin Megami Tensei. Developer is also great after I asked about a puzzle that I was stuck on. Edit: After 166 quests, and 50+ hours, I would say its time very well spent, and no don't think that because I have done 166 quests that the dev lied, because there were some I didn't do yet. But it is time very well spent, and I plan to spend more to achieve 100%
This is a good game
This is NOT an asset flip! Unlold Story is a passion project, that has been in development for 10 years. Each element is carefully crafted and specifically adjusted with a purpose in mind.
Story
Since this is an open-world game - quests, story and dialogue quality matter a lot. And story is easily the most worked-on and enjoyable part of this game. It's very easy to immerse yourself in this world because each location, each town and dungeon feels real and alive. I haven't seen a single repeating line of dialogue and things change EVERYWHERE! That said, the main story is rather simplistic and short. I'd say if you only focus on the main story and rush to beat it, you'll do it in around 10 hours and be pretty disappointed. But it serves as a means to advance time in the world and unlock more locations. The main girth of this game is in tens of smaller stories that happen simultaneously around the world. It took me 87 hours to see everything and do every quest in the game. This is both a good thing and a bad thing: each part is the world is memorable and unique, you will have fun just by going around and taking to people, but the way it's executed forces you to backtrack on 20+ different locations to keep up with whatever going on in them. It's easy to get overloaded with information and forget details. Not only that, to get the full experience you would need to backtrack constantly (like 10+ times), which takes hours and slows down pacing a lot. It burned me out near the second half of the game, but paid off in the ending. I would combat this problem by focusing on one area and boarding off from the rest of the world. Then the next chapter starts and we go to the next area and lose access to previous. Then near the end the whole world opens and we can backtrack once to see what happened and to see what we missed. Also, I didn't like
the Cloud Bass
main quest and whole area in general, it was too immersion breaking. And the whole
Molten Tundra
I feel like could be omitted, it doesn't do much in the end for the story, just made one character worse.
Gameplay
Gameplay consists of the world exploration and turn-based RPGMaker battles. World exploration is available early on and the world is pretty big. Each time you find a new location it becomes available for fast travel, even if its currently closed for entry. While advancing the main story you'll be unlocking more and more parts of the world and traverse it a lot. I mentioned in the story section that you will backtrack a lot. You will do this not only for the story, but also for the quests and collectibles. In every town in every dungeon there are things, that you cannot get right away requiring to come back later. World exploration is good, I can't find anything wrong with it, except that it gets unfun backtracking a lot of times. The battle system is also customized and made well with attention to details. I liked elemental reactions. I liked figuring out weaknesses of some challenging bosses. The dungeons on the other hand... Let's start with a good thing: there are no sudden encounters and most of battles are avoidable. If you accidentaly run into the enemy - you can run away from it guaranteed. The worst thing about dungeons is that every encounter is extremely long and tedious. It can take 10 minutes to fight a single battle with a common group of enemies. At the end of a battle you'll get very little exp and money, so it isn't even worth it. Here's my advice: do not kill enemies if you can just run past them. In a next dungeon you will get triple the EXP from forced battles, usually with overpowered companions. If you have to fight then exploit enemies with poison. It's incredibly overpowered and works on every boss (even final boss), there are like 5 enemies that resist poison - spiders and snakes among them. Get as much luck as you can, as it increases chance to apply status effects. Later on you will get an overpowered party member with instakill, equip him with an item that gives second action and exploit the hell out of it. Don't worry about the gems required to use instakill, i'll talk about it in progression. Progression. It's hard to find useful upgrades for characters, 95% of all weapons and armor are crap. There are rarely direct upgrades, if an item has a stronger effect, it also has a stronger tradeoff making it worthless. Good thing level ups don't increase stats singificantly enough, so level grinding is not needed. Items though, their progression is very well done and you will use them to heal yourself a lot. You can find many items for free and you can buy weak ones, but the strongest ones you'll have to craft. Skills are usually locked behind exploration and story progression. Skills have an even worse progression then weapons and armor do: there's almost no difference in strength, but supposedly stronger ones cost more. Elemental damage is very weak compared to physical, if enemy is resistant to physical use poison. Decisive skills are supposed to be the strong spells, but most of them are completely useless and they require special gems to use. You can never have enough gems to use decisive skills without worry, so here's how to get infinite amount of them with the money exploit: There exists an item called Energy Drink. It costs a whopping 3000 gold and sells for 1500 gold. You can buy ingredients for ~200 gold and just craft it. Energy Drink is a Tier 1 item available extremely early on. Now you have infinite gold, buy all the spheres, buy all the gems you need. With spheres you can craft exp spheres and get about 10 levels fast ignoring grind.
Graphics and Design
Graphics are the weak point of this game. The game uses default tilesets with minor edits, which I think is fine for smaller games, but a game of this scale is held back by it. Some of the custom graphics are title and chapter cards, which look boring just on a black background. Steam thumbnail would also benefit from being more clickbaity. However usage of tilesets in towns and dungeon design is actually very good. There are no premade maps and generated dungeons, everything is handcrafted. Game features quite a lot of puzzles ranging from easy to actually challenging.
Technical state
Technical state is exceptional. Whole community was able to find only 10-ish severe bugs, all of them are corner cases, all of them had workarounds. For a game this big it's negligible.
Final word
Huge thanks to Meowsticks for making this game! I had a lot of fun and will definitely try next game

Too much talking in the game. I played for four hours and have explored 3 towns. I would estimate at least 2 hours of that was talking to other characters or the main character talking to himself. The phrase purple pirates has appeared at least 15 times and I'm sick of it - I know who they are and what they do after the first time, Glad it was free. I won't be returning to this game - bored now..
Do you want a new FF game like the old NES one? This will scratch that itch. The story so far is engaging but not groundbreaking. I wouldn't doubt it if the writers pulled a plot twist at some point, but it's also not really NEEDING one. Solid game, worthy of my time.
VERY nice game. Deep Story, nice Characters and good Fight-System. Absolutely FUN!
