There was a point in my life where I was genuinely losing it. Not in a dramatic way that's easy to explain — just slowly, quietly going under. I stopped caring about things I used to care about. I was isolating myself, making bad decisions, letting everything slide. I knew I was on a bad path but I didn't have the energy to change direction. I just kept going. I found this game at maybe the lowest point of all of it. I wasn't looking for anything meaningful — I just needed something to fill the silence that wasn't going to demand anything from me. No objectives screaming at me, no leaderboard, no one to disappoint. I saw the screenshots, saw "desert, old truck, road trip," and bought it without reading anything else. The first time I drove out into that endless sand and just... kept going, something loosened in my chest. There's no enemy chasing you. No timer. The only thing that matters is whether your engine has oil and your radiator has water and your tank has enough gas to reach the next stop. That's it. That's the whole problem. And for some reason, having that one small solvable problem — a busted door to replace, a cassette to find, a broken headlight to swap out — made me feel like I could breathe again. I played it every night for weeks. Not for hours, just an hour or so before sleep. The lo-fi cassettes in the radio, the sound of tires on cracked asphalt, the sun going down over procedurally generated nowhere. It became the one consistent thing in my day that felt okay. I started sleeping better. Started eating at normal times again. Started answering messages. Small stuff — but it was movement, and I hadn't been moving in a long time. I'm not going to pretend a video game fixed everything. It didn't. But it gave me a place to land every night when everything else felt like too much. It kept me company without asking anything of me. And eventually I climbed out of that hole, and I genuinely don't know if I would have found the footing without this stupid little desert driving game giving me somewhere to be.
I bought this game awhile back, forget what event made me game hunting, but at the time this was 5 bucks. Not too long after buying it, the developer went ghost for a year or so, and the games community thought he took the cash and ran. He/She didn't. they came back, put some effort in, kept updating it, and brought it to the current day. The gameplay isn't much, loot, drive, loot, sell and upgrade. But for some reason, it's done in such a beautiful atmosphere, and it helped me process things better in life then an actual therapist did. I've looked at other games like this, but none of them had the uniqueness of Under the sand, or whatever makes this game so helpful for processing stuff. Maybe its the fact you are alone and unafraid in this ruined world. maybe its the cartoonish style. My Point being: if you have a couple extra dollars, and even a little bit of free time, I'd recommend this game heavily. been with it since the beginning, and it's getting better every update
This is a great road trip game, there is not much to say about it. It feels much better than Pacific Drive and Keep Driving even, because in this game you actually drive a car (shocking, right?) instead of nudging it 15 meters forward until the next lootable area appears. There are moments here where you just drive, and nothing else happens. You just use the car you've been caring about, building it bit by bit, and you just drive it. Why don't more CAR DRIVING games have such a nice car driving game loop. This game has a good pacing. You have time to just drive. It doesn't force you out of the car like Pacific Drive so you can loot some more useless stuff, and it doesn't replace driving with loading screens (like Pacific Drive does when you move to the next area) or mini-games (like Keep Driving does every single waking second of the game). This game also has a lot of content too, because even though there is a limited number of POIs and the loot you find is kinda repetitive - you still find more things as you play along. I bought it a long time ago and have been waiting for the game to cook some more. It recently added achievemetns and I jumped into it - and I can say it has cooked enough. It's a great game to play right now. Go play Under the Sand if you liked other road games like Jalopy or The Long Drive. This is a much more content-filled game, with a good sense of pacing, unlockables that will keep you engaged for a while, and less jank.
Very nice and fun indie game. Regularely updated by the dev. Sometimes a bit repetitive after a long playtime, but i like to play it from time to time for the exploration / looting / cutsomisation / relaxing athmosphere. Cars are cool, would be nice to have sirens for the emergency vehicules rooflight, or even emergency vehicules themself added (Ambulance, police car..)
its a cool game you get to drive around its like long drive but a little different
I've played most of the janky car driving/looting sims, and I'd consider this one to be the most relaxing. There's not any real challenge, you just build your car and go out on trips from your home base through procedurally generated levels. Find some supplies, parts to customize your truck, things to sell to the parts shops, and if you're lucky you'll find a new truck to build. When you decide to end your trip you are sent home with your vehicle and the items you had* (most of the time). Some points of note: - The game never crashed once in all my time, great work! - Game starts almost instantly with no logos/cutscenes - Level load time was about 15 seconds on my system (9800X3D, gen4 SSD) - *The only bug I noticed was sometimes the loot left in your starter truck did not send back to base - Nice range of vehicles, but the driving physics are weak compared to other sims - Great selection of custom parts/decorations - Amazing selection of music, played through collectable cassettes - Simple visual style, good performance (except mirror reflections, which are not needed) - I played about 50 hours before it started to get stale, great value - Still being updated at this time - There are no enemies, few things can damage you at all, I never got close to dying - Default settings are good for a first time player I enjoyed this and will return for another trip when there are more updates!
Almost 40hs playing this game and love it! It's simple, you feel your evolution. You also have a feeling of collectionist. Since i boght it the developer has updated it 4 times. You don't find that love and compromise from dvelopers that often. If you are like me: you love a chill game that is focused on collecting things selling them and driving then don't think it too much, buy it!!
После апдейта было приятно поигрывать уже, но по большей части без видоса на фоне скучно
Зашёл. сел, поехал, включил видосик на втором мониторе и кайфуешь
very nice i would approve.
