If classic top-down shooter Loaded was merged in a lab with Resident Evil you might get something like Undead Blackout: Reanimated Edition. Reimagined and rebuilt from the ground up with the latest version of Unreal Engine 4, this is a frantic, unrelenting and supremely challenging shooter.

I wasn't holding out much hope for Undead Blackout, but I can say in all honesty that it managed to underwhelm me even beyond those minimal expectations. Graphically, the game is very dark. It's nearly impossible to see anything, which tells me that the "gimmick" for this game is nothing more than a poorly done game of, "Hide & Seek." While I will admit that it was a bit creepy the first time I enountered a group of zombies standing with their backs to me, that only works once. It ceases to be interesting when it's overdone. The game starts you off with a limited amount of health and stamina, but neither are enough to accomplish anything. Your flashlight illuminates a very small area, though you do have the ability to turn 360 degrees to light up your surroundings. The problem is that zombies will often pop up behind you when you're trying to open doors or look inside of a cell to determine if it's worth entering. This concept is also overdone, as there are numerous cells, doors, and rooms, with a huge amount of empty, wasted space. I played for an hour, yet I didn't see anything of value, nothing that would remain with me after the game. Keys, weapons, ammo, and health packs are few and very far between. This game attempts to create random gameplay and thereby add replay value by these items popping up, or all too often not popping up, in various areas. The floorplan seems to stay the same, and I learned very quickly which handful of areas to check for items, so for me, there is no replay value. Movement and combat are very inconsistent. At times, I would find that sprinting didn't work, even with plenty of stamina available. I also found that the distance for combat isn't definite or consistent. Sometimes I'd have to be right up on a zombie to do any damage, while at other times, I could stand an entire square away and land a good hit. That kind of inconsistency makes it nearly impossible to safeguard the limited health that's provided for the character. Overall, I didn't see anything that would make me want to play again, and I have no desire to finish the game at this point. When you can't measure, predict, or repeat gameplay activities consistently, all you're left with is frustration and disgust. You'll absolutely want to pass on Undead Blackout if consistency matters to you as a gamer. *Please note that I did receive a key for this game in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, I want to thank the developer for giving me a free copy for evaluation the day before it launched. When I reviewed this game the day before it launched here on Steam, the price tag was not yet known. After playing the game enough to give my first impressions, I assumed this game would have a $2 or $3 price tag and that he might even ask 99 cents for it. That first impressions can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHo_Fa28yvI Now, after seeing that this guy is actually trying to ask an insane $10 USD for this game, even with its initial 10% discount, this is about as absurd as it gets here on Steam. I understand that making a game, especially as a new game developer is very time consuming and takes a lot of work. However, you also have to take a cold, hard look at what this game is when you put it up on Steam, and compare it against other games of a similar style. In my first imrpessions video, I scored the game and stated that I would "assume" a $2 price tag.. for IF this game launched at $2, the value would still be low.. giving it a 5 out of 40 based on a $2 or $3 price tag. But now knowing how ridiculous of a price this guy is asking, I change my value score to a NEGATIVE 10 (because it's insanely over-priced and one of the worst values I've ever seen on Steam). My video overal score was a 23%, still a "not recommend" and a fail, but at $9 or $10 as the launch price, you can deduct 15 percentage points from that score (5 value changed to a -10).... and.. **************************** MY SCORE FOR THIS GAME IS AN 8%. WAY OVER-PRICED AND UNDER-BAKED GAME! ************************************* Again, I thank the developer for offering me a free key, but I remain true to my honest opinions, and this game is a horrid value and feels very amatuer when playing. Stay far, far away is my advice.. you can get games like this that are 100 times better for the price tag he is asking!
I reccomend this ONLY IF you're ok with 'top down' view. This wasn't for me but it's still an ok game. Here's my Lets Play https://youtu.be/AosUCoKm13Y
