Finally a disc golf game that has a good flight model. Its a lot of fun to play too. I like that it has Finnish courses that I have played before. The menus are a tad buggy... Disc inventory management could be a bit better too. I hope the devs keep updating this one with more content and quality of life fixes. Don't hesitate to grab this one.
I would happily review this positively IF it was in a good state at release. Because I was still debating a refund just past the 2-hour threshold because it is very fun! There are tons of glitches, some crashing/freezing, the UI is incredibly unintuitive, and it just needs some polish. I'm still wondering how my power bar can be full and the disc will sometimes fall in front of my feet. Also why does the practice throw need to be cancelled by pressing escape? Maybe I'm missing something. Please just let your shadow swings without releasing the disc show your power meter. This seems like a no-brainer. This doesn't feel much more finished than the beta and it's probably not worth the $25 AND the additional price (double the base game... Really?) for the TechDisc functionality. There is a lot of good! If this game was more finished I would certainly have left a positive review. I really like the physics and it seems like some physics were updated (and improved!) since the beta. I also really appreciate the disc selection! Way more than Disc Golf Valley and the new Disc Golf Masters. Sure it's not as pretty as Disc Golf Masters, but I do think this is a better disc golf simulation. It just needs some more value to be worth the price tag, especially considering the price for TechDisc functionality.
My wife and I have over 500 hours played on this game for the Nintendo Switch (It was the main reason we got a Switch). It has always been the best, most realistic disc golf game out... Now there's hundreds of more discs and a bunch of new courses, our prior 500 hours was on just 3 courses so this is next level! We also have a lot of time played on the True Disc Golf demo on PC, this has been wishisted for a long time! We have always loved this game and will get hundreds of more hours played on it this year! Also, PLEASE add achievements!!!
Top notch disc & wind physics! Loads of popular discs to play with for tons of shot shaping variety. The controller stick swing gameplay is satisfying once you nail down release and nose angles, but it is also tight enough that shanked shots can happen easily. I often find myself frustrated at awful throws because my hand didn't do what my brain wanted, just like playing disc golf in real life! While the graphics aren't jaw-dropping, the courses available are excellent representations of their real world counterparts. Sticking the green on 17 at Winthrop on a windy day feels like a tremendous accomplishment.
I do not wish to sound too harsh but need to share some criticism. Speaking solely on the simulator I've played almost 12 hours and have been unable to finish 18 holes. Too common to get stuck inside a tree, bush, fence or something that you can't see, I guess because you are standing in it. The limited amount of movement usually isn't enough to get out. Rock Hill in particular is really bad. Either can't get out and have to restart the round or keep throwing the disc in crazy angles and 20 strokes later luck your way out. I have thrown the disc and it goes straight backwards as if hitting an invisible wall. Pass mando and end up back before mando in a continuous loop. It would be nice in those instances to rewind to your last shot so you can avoid getting stuck, or be able to place yourself elsewhere. Maybe a free walk? I bought a techdisc and built a simulator in the house to play the game. A big investment for something that doesn't feel finished yet. Hoping some fix gets implemented sooner than later as I would really like to finish a round. The idea of being able to play a course across the world with a buddy also on the other side of the world is just too good to give up hope on. So much potential. Support the developer but know if you are like me and plan on buying a techdisc, net and everything else you need that the sim isn't fully cooked yet. If you already have all those things. What's another $50? When it works it is a lot of fun.
After one round, initial review: Overall, great. Feels pretty true for the discs I have, but the wind interactions feel either brutal or understated. I'm playing on M&KB. My only gripe is how weird putting feels. You set the power which is optimally a little behind the basket, but when using the full set power it often launches the putter over the basket and 40-50' past. I think a huge help would be a setting when putting for spin putting or push putting. Push puts are floaty and fall in, but all putts feel like they're somewhere in between and way overjuiced for the power meter. Maybe I need to adjust how I'm playing, but the crosshair when putting should be the chains. I even just jumped into putting training and with the crosshair on the basket a medium power putt was 50' past and waaaaay over. I jam my puts flat at the chains and it just feels weird. Also as other reviews have said, the menus lag out and things become unclickable often. Trying to host an online game, but it just launched and nobody is really playing yet. I recommend this game, but there are some improvements that can be made, definitely. I'll be interested to see tech disc integration.
This is the one.. Adding a course creator / editor would make this sim the Benchmark for the format
A Great Walk Spoiled... By a Rolling Frisbee and UI Quirks
Let's be honest, the gaming world needs more niche sports instead of just focusing on football and basketball. Enter True Disc Golf. It’s a title with immense potential, offering a mixed bag of brilliant physics, an active developer, and a seriously clunky interface.
The Good: PGA Tour, but with Plastic
The core gameplay is where this game truly shines. The throw and power mechanics feel heavily inspired by traditional golf games, and it works wonderfully. The physics are authentic—sometimes too authentic. There is a unique, soul-crushing beauty in watching your disc land perfectly near the basket, only to stand up on its edge and dramatically roll 50 feet straight into a lake. That's just the cruel reality of the sport! Kudos to the developer for being highly active, pushing out 19 updates since launch. The roadmap also promises a Course Editor this year, which will be an absolute game-changer for replayability.
The Bad: Hide and Seek with the Features
I actually had to rewrite this review because the UI is so confusing I initially thought the game completely lacked multiplayer and leaderboards! They do exist (Online Ranking Matches are there, and a turn-based versus mode is coming), but finding and navigating these features shouldn't feel like a puzzle game. A cleaner, more intuitive interface would go a long way.
The Ugly: Game-Breaking Inventory Simulator
The menu currently has a vendetta against you cleaning out your bag. Want to sell a disc? Great, transaction successful! Want to sell a second one? Absolutely not. The menu completely freezes, no buttons respond, and your only option is to restart the game entirely. It’s a frustrating roadblock that definitely needs to be addressed immediately.
A Warning on Priorities: Fix the Core Game First
Looking at the roadmap, seeing Nintendo Switch and Mobile ports listed for the next 1-2 months is honestly frustrating. It is already painful enough to buy a game that feels unfinished; seeing the developer shift focus to new platforms instead of fixing all the current bugs is a bad look. Here is some free advice: focus 100% on delivering a complete, bug-free PC experience first. Do not forget the players who bought the game now and are keeping it alive. Furthermore, if this game stays buggy and racks up bad reviews on Steam, mobile and Switch players will see that and simply won't buy it. A polished core game is your best marketing tool for future ports. Final Verdict: It’s a diamond in the rough. You are buying into a very solid, highly enjoyable framework that still needs some polish. With an active Discord and a solid roadmap ahead, it's worth picking up to support the sport. Just prepare for a few restarts when managing your bag. Let's really hope the dev fixes the core game entirely before rushing to the Switch!
It takes a few hours to learn how this game interprets disc golf, but once you get it, it's soooooo fun. I complained about it a week ago, but I have slowly figured out what the issues were and now it's the best. Online has bugs right now, but the developer is actively working on it. Only gripe is the menu bugs. I have had the game prevent me fom switching discs until I reactivate the mouse and use that. Camera bugs that made me throw my disc from the POV of the basket; worse than real life vision from near a bush (like completely blocked visually when it's a tiny bush. Viewing another players shots from your position also creates bad camera angles where it just zooms in on a tree trunk. That happens when playing solo too though.
The physics are so satisfying and realistic. You choose nose angle, release angle, aim point, and power for your shots. Putting is challenging enough and fun, The disc selection is accurate to true flights and has plenty of disc selection. You can throw floaty anheizers, rollers, sky shots, strait darts, and its easy to shank shots too playing with controller. Not a tremendous amount of courses and the graphics arent impressive but iv played a couple of the courses in real life, would love to see the game grow it has a great foundation
