TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children is the first season of a turn-based strategy SRPG that takes place in the world of Troubleshooter.

Valhalla is a free trading nation erected by three world powers for their own benefits after the world war. In an attempt to control the nation, the three world powers banned the army from Valhalla. Due to these circumstances, public order in Valhalla is always unstable and thus after ten years the Valhalla government made a bold decision.
The Valhalla government granted civilians the right to investigate and arrest criminals in order to lower the rising crime rate. People call them Troubleshooter.
10 years have passed since the introduction of the troubleshooter system. Albus, a 20-year-old young man, becomes an official troubleshooter. Albus first starts his company on his own but soon takes in many colleagues as he solves more cases. All these new members of the company have their own motivations and stories. You will be experiencing a variety of missions in Valhalla through their stories.

All characters in Troubleshooter have their own unique classes. Each character can rank up to the upper class, and the role of your character changes according to the class.
All characters in Troubleshooter can acquire various masteries according to their levels and classes. Furthermore, you can activate additional effects by combinations of masteries. Utilizing this, you can make a character for your unique strategy.
Such masteries can be acquired by leveling your character up. However, in most cases, you can acquire masteries from enemies. In other words, you can take your enemies' unique traits and apply them to your characters.
There are more than 100 unique missions in Troubleshooter. All missions are designed independently, and all of them have their own unique circumstances.
Troubleshooter uses more than 500 cut scenes to portray the story.
As new characters join your company, playable content will be unlocked according to their roles. For example, if you recruit a hunter character, you will be able to tame beasts. You will be able to craft drones if you recruit engineers.

Mechanically, the game portion is spot on. The turn-based combat is interesting and well-executed, with plenty of customization options for your characters - classes, mastery abilities, equipment. That is the sole reason I have so many hours in the game - the combat. There is plenty of grind for those folks who want it - material gathering, crafting, mastery acquisition, and so on. That's great if you want to just relax, build up your team, acquire equipment and materials. I like that the development team gave us the choice as players to grind, if we want. My personal issue with the game is the cutscenes, story, dialogue getting in the way of the gameplay. I understand that players need impetus and motivation, but apparently the gameplay itself is not enough for folks nowadays. To me, less story in games is more, as if I want a good story, I'll read one of those things made of paper that no one bothers with anymore - books. Cutscenes interrupt and impede gameplay, between portraits popping up, comic-style exclamations, illusion-of-choice dialogue set ups... and, unfortunately, the English translation is mediocre. It's generally intelligible, but at times, crosses into nonsensical. I get it's a cultural mismatch, and that's ok - the developers wanted to tell a story and I would be fine with that, if they gave me the option to skip all of it, if I wanted, so I could focus on the gameplay and character build shenanigans. Generally, you can - most of the time you can press Escape to skip cutscenes. But some, inexplicably, you cannot. Some you can only fast forward through by mashing the Control key. And there are the points where you have to play as random bad guys and not as your team. I was put off by these, and merely wished to get through them as quickly as possible. I had no choice but to engage, however. In a tactical game where personalizing and customizing your team is paramount to success, making players control generic bad guys for various scenarios is criminal. However, the gameplay and mechanics are so damned good that I will gladly put up with the visual novel silliness. The joke or meme is this is Korean XCOM - it's not a joke. The developers nailed the mechanics. I just wish the story didn't get in the way so much. Regardless, it's worth suffering the story, dialogues, and unskippable cutscenes for the delicious turn-based combat and build a u t i s m.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 2.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

If you're a fan of turn based tactical games the likes of XCOM, Phoenix Point, Battle Brothers but felt you wanted something more flashy and JRPG like, do not overlook Troubleshooter. If you are one of the hardened XCOM players, who installs longwar and likes being punished, I doubt this is for you, but for most players you'll have a fun time exploring the systems, getting stronger and developing the characters you like. The game is not perfect, the translation can be a bit iffy and somethings unclear and the story is serviceable but nothing ground breaking. All that said, at £20 it is worth a shot and if it is on discount you should definitely try it.
