Best Steam's shmup. Worst ranking system among Steam's games
Trouble Witches Origin - Episode1 Daughters of Amalgam is a vibrant side-scrolling shoot 'em up that combines traditional arcade action with an imaginative fantasy setting filled with colorful witches, magical creatures, and fast-paced bullet patterns. Developed by Studio SiestA and published by Rocket-Engine Co.,Ltd., the game serves as an enhanced version of the original Trouble Witches experience, rebuilding and refining many of its core elements while preserving the charm that helped the series gain a dedicated following among shooter enthusiasts. At first glance, the game's cheerful art style and whimsical presentation create an inviting atmosphere that contrasts with the intense gameplay hidden beneath the surface. Players take control of one of several unique witches as they journey through the magical world of Karunbunkurs, battling waves of enemies and enormous bosses across six distinct stages. Every environment is packed with bright colors, detailed backgrounds, and imaginative fantasy themes that make each level visually memorable. The upgraded visuals and higher-resolution presentation significantly improve the overall appearance, allowing character designs, magical effects, and enemy attacks to stand out more clearly than before. The gameplay follows the classic shoot 'em up formula but introduces several mechanics that give it a unique identity. The most important is the Magic Circle system, which allows players to temporarily alter enemy bullets and transform dangerous situations into opportunities for collecting resources. This mechanic adds an additional layer of strategy beyond simply avoiding attacks, encouraging players to carefully manage risk and maximize rewards. The system feels rewarding because it turns defensive play into an offensive scoring opportunity, creating a constant balance between survival and aggressive optimization. Character selection contributes greatly to replay value. Each witch possesses distinct attack patterns and abilities that affect how stages are approached. The inclusion of additional playable characters expands the variety even further, giving players multiple ways to experience the campaign. Whether someone prefers concentrated firepower, wider attack coverage, or specialized abilities, there is usually a character that matches their preferred playstyle. This diversity makes repeated playthroughs feel fresh and encourages experimentation as players search for the most effective strategies. Another notable aspect of the game is its attention to story and personality. Unlike many arcade shooters that treat narrative as an afterthought, Trouble Witches Origin includes newly written story sequences and full voice acting for its cast. The interactions between characters help bring the magical world to life and give players a stronger connection to the witches they control. While the story never overshadows the action, it adds an extra layer of charm that complements the game's lighthearted tone and distinctive fantasy setting. The difficulty curve offers something for both newcomers and veterans. Accessible gameplay adjustments make it easier for less experienced players to enjoy the adventure, while higher difficulties retain the demanding bullet patterns and precision that genre fans expect. Boss encounters are particularly impressive, often filling the screen with elaborate attack formations that require concentration, memorization, and quick reactions. Success feels genuinely rewarding, especially during the later stages where the game's challenge reaches its peak. The audio presentation further strengthens the experience. Energetic music accompanies the action throughout the campaign, helping maintain excitement during intense battles while reinforcing the magical atmosphere. Combined with expressive voice performances and polished sound effects, the soundtrack contributes significantly to the game's identity and keeps the action engaging from beginning to end. Although some players may find the story segments interrupt the arcade pacing at times, and the later challenges can become overwhelming for those unfamiliar with bullet-hell shooters, these issues do little to diminish the overall quality of the package. The game successfully balances accessibility, depth, personality, and replayability while delivering the satisfying action expected from the genre. Trouble Witches Origin - Episode1 Daughters of Amalgam stands as a polished and entertaining shooter that embraces both its arcade roots and its fantasy-themed personality. Its engaging mechanics, colorful presentation, memorable cast, and strong replay value make it an easy recommendation for fans of shoot 'em ups and bullet-hell games. Even years after its release, it remains a standout example of how classic arcade design can be refreshed for modern audiences without losing its original appeal. Rating: 9/10
Nice STG with unique mechanics. Story for all characters with full voice acting was pretty neat. When next episode ?
BULLET HELL SHMUP very good, Reminds me of that other CAVWE shmups with witches side scroller. It has a shield that slows down bullets, and items you buy from the ingame shop to alter the shots and bomb. 6 Stages and different modes, like story , arcade etc.
very funny shooting game, good graphics and playability - approved
Game is fun, but the translation is wack.
遊びやすいシューティングで面白いね!弾幕と集金のバランスがすきです
I never played the X360 version, but this is a fun game. It has some pretty involved mechanics, but it's got good art, music and is well designed.
