About

Trenches VR puts you in the boots of a World War I soldier trapped behind enemy lines. In this claustrophobic nightmare, fight for your life — and your sanity — as you navigate the horrors of war. Your only goal is to return to your family. Your only tools is an old trench whistle and your instincts to survive.
Warning: This game contains disturbing imagery, intense jump scares, and psychological horror not suitable for all players. Play at your own risk.
Enemies can hear your voice, breathing, and every move that you make through your microphone. Stay quiet, stay hidden… or they’ll find you. Collect clues, uncover the truth, and use your whistle to guide your way - but beware, every sound could give away your position.
Insanity: Just because you passed somewhere already, does not mean that there is nothing there. The environment may change with your sanity.
Repeatability: Experience may change for each player. Fog type, some parts of the environment, jump-scares and objectives location will be randomized on each play-through.
Plan Accordingly: Plan your next move as it may be your last. Peak around corners, watch your footsteps as some wooden floors creak, and be always on the move.
Microphone Input: Enemy can listen and hear your microphone, screams and sounds. Make sure to not scream.
Mark Walls: With the chalk you find in the trenches, leave your mark on the walls—your drawings will guide you when you’re lost.

Every step, every creaky floorboard makes your heart jump. The tension never lets up, but you can’t stop playing. You’re on your own, constantly on edge, and even the tiniest sound could get you caught. I love how your microphone actually becomes part of the game; even your own breathing makes you tense. The whole experience is nerve-wracking, intense, and unforgettable. That said, the game starting sound felt a bit too loud , and I noticed a small visual glitch in one of the rooms where a wall would appear and disappear as I moved my head. It didn’t break the game, but it was a little jarring.
Nice Game, I like that the jumpscares are randomly located in each game, that keeps the excitement every time you play.
Trenches VR is a virtual reality horror experience that places immersion and psychological pressure far above conventional gameplay comforts. Developed by Steelkrill Studio and published by Perp Games, the game immediately distinguishes itself by transforming the brutal, claustrophobic setting of World War I trenches into a deeply personal nightmare. Rather than portraying large-scale warfare or combat heroics, the game focuses on isolation, helplessness, and fear, asking players to survive not through strength or weapons, but through silence, awareness, and emotional restraint. From the moment you step into the mud-filled corridors, the atmosphere is suffocating, designed to make you feel trapped and vulnerable in a world that offers no sense of safety. The core experience revolves around navigating a shifting labyrinth of trenches while trying to find a way home. There is no combat system in the traditional sense, and this absence is a deliberate design choice that reinforces the horror. You are unarmed, exposed, and forced to rely on environmental cues and limited tools to progress. The trench whistle becomes a central mechanic, acting as both a guide and a liability. Using it can reveal information or orient you within the maze, but the sound also risks drawing hostile entities toward your position. This constant risk-reward tension turns even basic navigation into a nerve-wracking decision, where every action carries potentially fatal consequences. What truly sets Trenches VR apart from most horror games is its use of the player’s real-world microphone as an in-game detection system. The game listens to your breathing, speech, and involuntary reactions, and enemies respond accordingly. Heavy breathing caused by fear can betray your location, turning your own panic into a gameplay threat. This mechanic creates an intense psychological loop where fear feeds directly into danger, blurring the line between player and character. The result is an experience that feels unusually intimate, where controlling your emotions becomes just as important as understanding the game’s systems. Few VR titles manage to integrate physical player behavior so effectively into their core design. Exploration is slow and deliberate, with an emphasis on atmosphere rather than constant forward momentum. Fog drifts through narrow passages, distant sounds echo unpredictably, and visual landmarks are scarce, making it easy to become disoriented. The environment itself feels unstable, sometimes changing subtly as your character’s mental state deteriorates. This shifting layout keeps players uneasy, as familiar routes can suddenly feel unfamiliar or unsafe. Clues and narrative fragments are scattered throughout the trenches, revealing a personal story of desperation, longing, and psychological breakdown rather than a traditional war narrative. The story unfolds quietly, encouraging players to piece together meaning through observation rather than exposition. From a technical and presentation standpoint, Trenches VR prioritizes mood over spectacle. Visuals are intentionally muted and gritty, with muddy textures, dim lighting, and oppressive fog doing most of the heavy lifting. While the graphical fidelity may not match higher-budget VR productions, the restrained aesthetic works in the game’s favor, reinforcing the bleakness of the setting. Sound design is where the game truly excels, using spatial audio to create constant uncertainty. Footsteps, whispers, distant movements, and sudden silences all play critical roles in maintaining tension, often making players hesitate before taking even a single step forward. The pacing of the experience may not appeal to everyone, as it demands patience and emotional endurance. There are long stretches of quiet exploration punctuated by sudden spikes of fear, and the game expects players to remain fully engaged throughout. For some, this slow burn approach enhances immersion and dread, while others may find it exhausting or overwhelming, especially given the microphone mechanic’s demand for silence and self-control. Nevertheless, the design remains consistent with the game’s vision, refusing to compromise its identity for accessibility. Ultimately, Trenches VR stands as a bold and unsettling entry in the VR horror genre. It is less about traditional scares and more about sustained psychological pressure, using sound, silence, and vulnerability to create an experience that feels deeply personal and difficult to shake. Players looking for action-heavy VR gameplay or cinematic storytelling may find it too restrained, but those seeking a genuinely immersive horror experience that leverages VR’s unique strengths will find Trenches VR to be a haunting journey that lingers long after the headset comes off. Rating: 6/10
just isnt my type of game it was pretty boring the monster was kinda cool but this game needs alot of work
The game throws you straight into the horrors of World War I with an atmosphere that feels both terrifying and immersive. The mechanics are easy to learn, making it accessible even for players who are new to VR. The introduction clearly explains where you are, what to do, and how each object works, so you can quickly start exploring. Enemies can hear you if you make noise, which adds a layer of realism. However, the game still has a few things to improve: The map is large but can feel too similar in many areas, and the heavy fog makes it easy to get lost. Picking up items from the ground is tricky because the side inventory slots often get in the way, causing you to grab the wrong object. The pop-up text box doesn’t always face you properly, forcing you to find the right angle to read it. The mic sometimes activates from background noise, even when you’re silent, which can alert enemies unintentionally. Despite these issues the game manages to create an impressive and terrifying atmosphere.
Uhhhh No! Disappointing. Sorry a shooter that cannot kill the bad guys - what is that called? You just run you butt off.
