Tags: Casual - Object Routes & Flinger Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Maze navigation with phone emoji. Arbitrary stiff rules. Obnoxious clash between UI, control scheme and instructions. Quickly aggravating to play. Dev could not manage control schemes and game design across multiple platforms, the the result is a confused mess of conflicted instructions. Touch interface on-screen while controller for other things, and occasionally falling back on KB+M to navigate menus. Audiovisuals are free flash game level at best. The level of hubris and ego about this obnoxious phone game about a smiley face wearing sunglasses and a fanblade hat from the developper is only half as unpexpected as the improvised defenders of this game, coming out of the woodwork for seemingly no reason. The developper thinks he made Super Meat Boy, and some react as if he did. The pretend-physics of the blocks falling often dont make sense as to why blocks will stay in the air under certain conditions and fall in others. Developper thinks just slapping ever changing rules on-screen somehow makes that okay game design. It does not. Overall lack of quality in the sound design and appearance, quickly becomes obnoxious and irritating. Your protagonist is a phone emoji and the whole setting and cirumstances make no sense.
Still working through the tutorial levels. Lots of help screens precede each one and I'm still finding them challenging. It will take a while to get to the end - if I'm clever enough coz some of these screenshots look wickedly devious.
Nota: 7,5

Good!
Trap Them 10/10
Turning off V-sync results in a weird metal whine I've never heard in my computer before. Probably safe to avoid this game. As for the game, it reminds me of an Atari 2600 game with a better cover than the actual game.
There's a difference, in my eyes, between a homage and not learning from the past. Trap Them has all the markings of the early days of gaming - as I assume was intended, except it seems a little... empty. There's no sound design at all, due to there being no sound. While that's not normally a problem for me, a complete lack of any and all sound makes everything feel stilted and weightless. Takes me out of the game when an explosion is a screen-shake and a few slightly-animated explosion decals. I'm not expecting Beethoven or anything, mind, but a little sound of some sort would be nice. It can be tricky, and that's fine, but I just find it hard to invest myself in an experience like this because nothing feels right. Not the most helpful review, I understand, but if you're put off by difficulty or no sounds then i'd say steer clear.
