I was excited for this and after playing it for a while I basically found the physics where lacking and also the game has ALOT of bugs that need to be fixed as well as performance issues that are out of the control of a users hands. disappointing really. Altho the game looks great and story has the cheese. crashes etc events are kinda cool on the good side of things.
Physics are non-existent. Sand works just like snow, you're sliding all around, tires don't matter. The maps are a challenge themselves, there are multiple roads you don't see, there's fog, rain and dark night, you don't see where to go, but guess who does, the AI. You can buy the best cars, enemy cars will always be better. You can't choose player charater, so you got a Eastern-European with the worst accent ever who says "I love Asian girls" to the Asian opponent. That's your character. FlatOut games are way better and it's from someone who 100%'d them.
Fun and nostalgic game, I like all the references from other games as well. It's really meant to be fun and it really is. I can say the performance isn't the greatest, UI has some glitches as well as controls. But overall I'm enjoying playing as Mihalych!
This game impressed me so much—in the best possible way—that I can't help but think the development of FlatOut 3 and FlatOut 4 should have been entrusted to this team; *Trail Out* really sucked me into its gameplay. To the developers who made this game: you guys are awesome.
Just a cheap buggy FLATOUT clone! Might have been half acceptable in 2002...
Trail Out is a great game. It's filled to the brim with references to other games/movies, which in my case adds to the experience. I find it amazing how the game was made by a small team, but they still have big and well-designed maps, the ability to add your own music to the game, tons of game modes, a great destruction physics engine paired with decent driving physics. I especially love that the game gives you the ability to destroy nearly everything in your path. Ever since I was little I was curious how far the destruction physics can be taken into games, however since the 8th console generation, destruction physics have become less relevant (with the exception of JC3, JC4, BeamNG and Teardown). I played the demo and initially didn't like the game, not because of the gameplay, but because of its personality, or better said, lack of personality. In the demo it wasn't evident to me that the game is meant to be a spiritual remake of FlatOut2 with a lot of references to online media, I thought it was just copying ideas. Even though I really enjoyed the game because I caught most of the references, I do think it's still a fun game if you were to remove those. The driving is fun and there are a lot of explosions, which in the right scenarios make the game very intense. Sure, it does have some issues, like how I experience a lot of noise if I turn off TAA (I really hate the TAA smearing), the performance is not that great for an UE4 game (even though it does look awesome in a lot of scenarios) and the voice dubbing is rubbish, but it's a fresh breath in the world of racing games and a really fun title. I would also like to add that the soundtrack is awesome. I understand if you may hate some of the songs, but a lot of modern games completely miss the idea of matching the soundtrack to the gameplay. Having rock with high BPMs is perfect for a game like Trail Out, which loves explosions and high speed. Now, just for my own racing game common knowledge, I am going to make a list of games from which Trail Out took inspiration from. I'm going to only include gameplay related things and not voice lines references, as the list would way too long. -FlatOut 2 - Trail Out is a spiritual successor to FlatOut2, so a lot of elements coincide, but if you never player FlatOut, the first two elements which pop in my head would be the similar HUD and driving physics. -Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005) - the blacklist (duh) -Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010) - here we have two things; the combat mechanics from the hunter mode and the sound effect used when you claim an achievement. The sound is very similar to the one which HP uses when you encounter a new cop/a pursuit starts with a parked police car -Blur - it's the inspiration behind the DASH game mode -DiRT? - there's a RALLY DRIVE game mode, however it is too general to pin it on a specific rally game, so DiRT it is just because it is the most well-known. -GRID 2/GRID Autosport - the menu sounds have this echo which just takes my mind to those games. There's also the FESTAPP which has sound effects very similar to the UI sound effects from GRID Autosport. There's the garage menu, where you can see your car and a screen on it's left, just like in GRID 2. -Road Rage - the bike/motorcycle gameplay features a combat system similar to the game. -Burnout Paradise - the junkyard. Beside BP and Trail Out, I don't think I EVER saw a game use a junkyard as a main gameplay feature. -Clutch/Armageddon Riders and Call of Duty Zombies - There's a DEAD OUT mode where you have to kill zombies and bosses in order to earn money and upgrade your car/equipment. You can also exit out of your car, which can turn the game mode into a TPP shooter, which paired up with the bosses make me believe the CoD Zombies was specifically the inspiration source. There's also the zombies, which have a similar behavior to the ones from Clutch. You can also add armor to the cars, which will make them look like the ones in Clutch, very cool if you ask me :D -Need for Speed Carbon - when there's a collision between you and another driver, you can see their webcam, like how you can see a bosses webcam in Need for Speed Carbon -Forza Horizon 5 - the camera shot when you cross the finish line is very similar to FH5
For a game that emphasizes crashing, the controls and physics are incredibly janky. Also the game is ridden with countless bugs.
