TrackMania Nations Forever is one of those racing games that looks simple at first but gets much more addictive once I start caring about my times. I am driving through the Stadium environment at ridiculous speeds, hitting jumps, loops, ramps and tight corners while trying to finish each track as quickly as possible. There is no huge career story or complicated car collection to distract me. The whole point is driving well, learning the track and shaving time off my previous attempts. I really like that focus because every mistake is easy to understand and I can immediately try again. The game has 65 official solo tracks that gradually become more difficult, so there is a good amount to learn before I even start getting into the custom content. The driving itself is what makes the game work so well for me. The cars are fast and responsive, but going fast does not automatically mean I am going to get a good time. I have to learn when to brake, how to take corners, where to land jumps and how to keep my speed through sections of the track. Some tracks are fairly straightforward while others start demanding much more precise driving. I like the fact that I can replay the same track repeatedly without it feeling completely pointless because there is always another second or even fraction of a second that I can try to save. The solo mode is probably where I get the most enjoyment from it. The 65 tracks are progressively challenging, so I can slowly work my way through them instead of being thrown straight into the hardest courses. The medal system also gives me something more concrete to aim for than simply reaching the finish line. Once I have completed a track, I can go back and try to improve my result. That creates a really nice loop where learning the track becomes just as important as actually racing it. There is also a lot more here than the official tracks. The built in editor lets me create my own tracks, and that adds a huge amount of potential once I get tired of the original content. I can also use the online side to race on custom tracks and compete through the game's official rankings. I like this because the game is not limited to the 65 tracks that come with it. The ability to create tracks means I can approach the game as both a racing game and a small track building sandbox. The biggest weakness for me is that the game can become very repetitive if I am not interested in chasing better times. There is no big progression system where I am unlocking a huge collection of cars or travelling through loads of different environments. It is the same Stadium setting throughout, and the focus stays firmly on time attack style racing. I actually think that is part of its charm, but it also means the game depends heavily on whether I enjoy repeating tracks and improving my driving. If I just want a traditional racing campaign with lots of cars and different locations, this is not really trying to provide that. The age of the game is noticeable as well. TrackMania Nations Forever originally released in 2008, and the visuals and presentation are obviously from that period. The Stadium environment still works because the bright tracks and exaggerated jumps suit the arcade style, but it is not going to impress me from a technical point of view anymore. I also think the simple structure can feel a little bare compared with newer racing games. At the same time, I would rather have this focused design than a game that adds loads of unnecessary systems just to make the package look bigger. Overall, TrackMania Nations Forever is a racing game that understands exactly what makes time trials satisfying. I like the fast driving, difficult tracks, medal chasing, custom track editor and the huge amount of potential that comes from the online side. The lack of different environments and deeper progression does limit the experience, but I do not think the game needs those things to be enjoyable. The fact that it is completely free makes the package even more impressive, especially when I consider how much there is to do once I start exploring custom tracks. For me, it is an old game that still gets the important part right, which is making me want to immediately restart a track because I know I can drive it a little better next time. Rating: 7.9/10
Nagyon jó. Néhány ember azt mondja hogy broken mert nem lehet online játszani, de csak be kell állítani egy Windows beállítást
