Carried heavily by its art, which is often ruined by some strange filter over it that--had it not been made 11 years ago--I would swear indicated it was manipulated by AI as the art is absolutely covered in poorly disguised artifacting, Tormentum is a decent enough, simplistic adventure game with a wholly unsatisfying ending. Throughout the game you are met with moral choices, however if you get even a single one wrong (and the answers are often quite biased by the writer deciding 'killing is always wrong even if killing someone evil,' for instance) you get a bad ending and are condemned to hell. The game, despite its 'edgy' aesthetic, is heavily, glaringly, opaquely Christian and preaches in your face constantly, including by berating you about the concept of suicide being cowardly and sinful. According to the game's ending, I made two 'evil' choices and 8 'good' choices, which meant I was actually evil and deserving of eternal damnation, because apparently I failed the writer's idea of being a Christian, aka, I wasn't hypocritical and pious enough. Quite stupid. Again, this game is heavily carried by its aesthetic; the writing, when present, is poorly localized and of quite poor-quality besides that. Not to mention, again, the very heavy and pervasive religious overtones. I'm unsure if I will play the creator's next game, maybe at a heavy discount, but I don't presume it will be any more wowing than this one, and I'm not all that fond of being preached at by what accounts to a biker t-shirt designer's rendition of HR Giger.
This is an absolute gem. I couldn’t help but wonder how many other masterpieces with gorgeous art styles and lighthearted, genuinely enjoyable gameplay are still hidden somewhere in the vast sea of games, waiting for me to finally return to them It also has that “ancient human craftsmanship” feel [strike]golden pre-AI era XD just joking [/strike] and really hope this H. R. Giger style(or whatever its called) never truly fades away
Tormentum - Dark Sorrow -------------------------------- The art is unreal, clearly inspired by H. R. Giger, every screen looks like a nightmare painting you can’t stop staring at. The story is mysterious and bleak, and this time it actually pulls you in more than you’d expect. Gameplay is simple point and click stuff, but it fits the tone and never gets in the way. The atmosphere carries the whole thing, dark, creepy, and honestly pretty memorable. It’s also pretty short, you can finish it in a few hours easy. I liked it a lot, even if it sometimes feels more like art than a proper game, wich might turn some people off. Still worth playing if you dont mind the slow pace and basic gameplay, enjoy the sorrow.
🔰 Einstieg
🎛️ Steuerung
Sehr simpel gehalten: klicken, untersuchen, kombinieren.
💀 Schwierigkeit
Durchwachsen.
📝 In Aller Kürze

♟ Düstere, verstörende Atmosphäre

🖼 Starker Artstyle (Giger/Beksiński-Vibes)

🧩 Knackige, teils kryptische Rätsel

⚖ Moralische Entscheidungen & mehrere Enden

This is true art that even AI bs cant replicate. Art made by the mad man who probably never seen a sun. This is not just a puzzle game, this is a MASTERPIECE
Tormentum is a good adventure game with nice and logical puzzles, if a bit on the easier side sometimes. The artwork fits the mood and it is very evocative. The story is not complicated since the protagonist has lost their memory and they just try to reach their destination where he is going to learn the truth but nevertheless it is still quite enjoyable.
So beautiful and well written. I had an amazing time on this game. What a crazy atmosphere and universe :D
