SS13: Afterlight brought some terrible choices by devs that completely killed any fun in this game. It went being one of the most enjoyable ARPGs on the market to an obnoxious unfun 90% of the heroes/builds not viable game. If the goal was player retention they did the opposite, nobody is going to keep playing this in its current state.
I used to genuinely love this game, thousands of hours, hundred of dollars. I don't know what the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ point is anymore. I have C6 drop pets, play hours and hours in profound, quant stacked, compass invested, and I'm breaking even on my investment. C6 Arcana - even C6 Lunaria - even C6 Vorax - even C6 Overrealm - negative C6 Cube - some profit Like how the ♥♥♥♥ do people who don't spend genuinely play or progress. Last season was terrible, but this season has become utterly severe. And I think the biggest reason, is they run their own RMT market. I'm genuinely about to report the company and try to charge back because they just lure you in and then destroy the pets the next season, everything is blanaced for Deep deep space with triple gold compasses, so the game has become complete utter helplessness. I don't think this game should be legal. The shouldn't be allowed to game side/code side make your investments become worthless so that you try to invest in something else. Game is just predatory, and pay to lose at this point. And content creators not calling it our are shills.
As a long-time ARPG player, I wanted to give this game a try after hearing it being praised by many content creators and fans of the genre for its complexity and in-depth mechanics. It is true that the game has all of that. On paper, it offers decent build diversity, complex systems that take time to learn, a wealth of content from current and previous seasons, and deep progression with aspirational bosses and endgame mapping. However, the developers have chosen to tarnish all of that with the greediest monetization I’ve seen in an ARPG since Lost Ark, which is no easy feat. You can buy skins, you can buy battle pets to make your character stronger and you can even buy drop pets to triple your loot... seems pretty pay-to-win already, right ? Now let’s make all of those systems a casino . It would be too easy and perhaps too kind to let you purchase all this power outright, so the developers have chosen to make it all gacha. To give proper numbers and I won’t detail the math here due to seasonal fluctuation in offers, it’ll cost you on average 350 euros to max out the current seasonal pet, assuming you pick all the right one-time offers and bundles. Once the “special sales” run out, this number shoots up to 758 euros. Bear in mind this is just for one drop pet. There are 13 seasonal ones and 5 general ones, along with a multitude of battle pets and potential skins which use another gacha currency. The game does give out those currencies, although sparingly, through the usual gacha-adjacent systems : login rewards, daily rewards, in-game battle-pass and the occasional gift code. I want to end this review with my personal experience. The way I like to play ARPGs is by putting, at times, an unhealthy amount of hours to farm currency and gear, pushing my character to its limits to clear the hardest endgame content available. If you’re anything like me and want to start this game today, just be prepared to spend up to five figures to “catch up” with the early adopters. Otherwise, you will need to accept the fact that you will be playing at a permanent disadvantage, and no amount of skill, game knowledge or time spent farming, will ever change that. This constant reminder soured my experience too much after a while. As a side note, this game’s economy is subject to rapid market inflation in the first few weeks of a season. While usually natural for those in-game economies after a fresh reset, here it seems to be accentuated by rampant RMT sadly often found in Asian P2W game titles. Whatever the root cause, it still leads to new and more casual players being priced out of items even more quickly than in similar games in the genre.
used to be fun and fast game, now its way too slow with barely any dopamine. been playing since beta and this is the worst its ever been, taking the worst out of every other game instead of keeping the identity of TLI which was a very fast, loot heavy game with slight p2w. the gap between p2w and f2p is VERY high right now, you either get barely anything or spend 600 bucks to actually get loot (just for the current seasonal mechanic, even if you get a max lvl drop pet right now.. it will be worthless most likely the next season) used to be one of my favorite games of all time, i played PoE for over 8 years and there has been times where i even loved TLI much more than PoE but both games are just cooked now, just took the path of trying to milk you to "play longer" by making loot way more scarce instead of actually focusing on the fun side. o7
Super generic, weapons don't seem to do much and your skills seem incredibly generic. I have no idea what is going on with the story. There is so much random effects going on in combat and areas are walled off by weird grey spines. This isn't the torchlight I remember, wish it was more like Torchlight 1.
They encouraged me to rate this for ingame currency
I rarely leave reviews, but this is actually a really solid game. I’d recommend ignoring most of the whining about P2W. If you’re not trying to compete with whales or push leaderboards, you absolutely do not need to spend money to play, progress, and enjoy the game. It also works great on the Legion Go S. Controller support is perfectly usable if you want to sit back and chill, and keyboard + mouse really isn’t mandatory in my opinion.
I played a little... You people turned this game from the escape from any major ARPG into the worst monetized game I've ever seen. You can easily spend hundreds of dollars and not get a single pet. No pet = no loot. Even Diablo Immortal could write an essay about the predatory monetization in this game. DO NOT START IN 2026.
