TopplePOP: Bungee Blockbusters

Great game to play with friends. The way you chain blocks together to pull off combos is what really adds depth. It's not just about connecting 4 blocks together. You can plan ahead setting up where you want combos to go; you can set up clusters so that when one combo finishes the next one falls in place; before your combo finishes you can quickly shove one of the blocks to collide with another cluster increasing the size of your combo. But you don't have the luxury of stopping and thinking because the timer is always counting down. Very satisfying once you get the hang of it.

My wife and I have been TopplePOPping since the summer of 2021 when we got the demo, and still can't put it down. Amazing couch co-op game with friendly and competitive modes. Love the balance between precision puzzling and tossy chaos - there's enough control that you can learn tricks and pull off impressive moves, but you'll also be met with the harsh realities of being wild animals throwing around blocks that sometimes stick to things, drop before you want, or get outright sabotaged by your well-meaning partner. So happy that this full version is finally out, hope to see the leaderboards for the weekly challenges full of worthy competitors soon!

TL;DR: Once you pop, you can't stop. Played the demo at PAX Aus 2019, still playing in 2025. Topplepop is an extremely unique action puzzler that should win this years labour of love award, the single player campaign is charming and hilarious (although not finished in EA, much to my sadness), the variety in the 'puzzle generation' via the weekly challenges and party mode makes this infinitely enjoyable.

I know this review is going to be a bit biased since I was involved in a part of this game's development as a freelance localiser, but I can assure you that hundreds of positive reviews from top Puyo/Tetris players more than prove that this game, although deviant to both aforementioned well-known puzzle game, is a fresh breath of air to the puzzle game eSports genre.
