Very good game. Positives: - Lots of bosses. - Huge variety of weapons, spells, and charms to discover. - Plenty of secrets to find. - A massive world that's easy to get lost in. - A fresh take on the Zelda/Soulslike formula. Negatives: - The biggest issue is the map. It's honestly just straight up dog sh*t. It's too vague to be reliable, and even using markers doesn't help much because the map doesn'thave any meaningful details. It only gives you a rough idea of where you are within a zone, and even that isn't always accurate. Areas like the sewers connect to multiple regions, and the sub-areas don't have maps at all, this makes it so frustrating. - My other issue/nitpick is how water and bottomless pits work. The game gives you a short window to get back to solid ground, but sometimes it's simply impossible and you drown anyway. The health loss isn't a big deal, but the respawn is. You're placed right on the edge of the water or pit, so even the slightest movement can send you straight back in. It's especially frustrating when you need to dash, since dashing follows your movement direction and often launches you directly back into the hazard. You have to carefully step away from the edge before you can safely dash. Despite these issues, Tombwater is absolutely worth playing. The water/pit respawn problem feels like something that could be patched fairly easily. The map, however, really needs a complete rework. If the navigation were improved, this game would be close to perfect.
