About

To The Rescue! is a dog shelter simulator where you are responsible for taking care of dozens of cute dogs in need of homes. It's not all cuddles and snoot boops though: running a shelter can be a lot of work. You have to manage all of the dogs' needs in order to maximize their chances of finding the right forever homes.
Each day brings new challenges and rewards. Dogs have specific preferences, can get infectious diseases, and can have negative traits. But you can also hold fundraisers, get random donations, and, if you work hard, help someone find their new best friend. Unfortunately, there's never enough room, and always more dogs.
Some dogs are more desirable than others, but maybe if you can afford to wait long enough, just maybe, every dog will have their day.

Support real-world charity. 20% of the developer's profit from sales of To The Rescue! goes towards real dog shelters through our charity partner the PetFinder Foundation.
Every dog is unique. Each dog is generated with its own traits and preferences to make them distinctive and memorable.
Match dogs with adopters' needs. Adopters will often come into the shelter looking for specific things. Match their preferences to increase the chances of adoption.
Upgrade and customize your shelter. If you end up with some spare funds, you can upgrade the shelter to have deluxe kennels, get help with cleaning or upkeep, and more!
Keep the shelter open. Sometimes it can be tough to afford to take care of all the dogs in the shelter. You'll need to be thrifty and sometimes make tough decisions so that you can keep helping dogs find homes.
...and yes, of course you can pet the dogs!

Every dog is unique - Each dog is generated with its own traits, food preferences, personalities, health quirks, names, training values, and more to make them unique and memorable. With 28 different breed variants, there are all kinds of dogs to take care of and show to potential adopters. These adopters will often come into the shelter looking for specific things. Match their preferences to increase the chances of adoption.
Fulfill their needs - Dogs need food, water, and shelter. They also need to be kept clean and happy. It's up to you, as the main employee of the shelter, to take care of them. It can get hectic, but it's all worth it to see them find their forever homes.
Minigames - For a break from the hectic day-to-day, there are other ways you can ensure that dogs are well taken care of. There are 4 minigames: Tug O’ War, Itchy Scritch, Fetch, and Bathtime

Balance the Budget - The shelter runs on donations and adoptions, and there are multiple ways to spend your money. You'll have to manage your budget to make sure that you can pay for food, vaccines, and other unexpected expenses.
Each day brings new challenges - In addition to your regular daily upkeep tasks and costs, random events can disrupt the routine. Diseases can break out and spread, new dogs can show up at the wrong time, and tough decisions will have to be made.
Grow and Upgrade - Upgrade your shelter to increase the number of dogs you can house, make it more efficient to feed and water them, and make the shelter dogs as comfortable as you can. It's your shelter: guide how it grows!

Event-driven story - In To The Rescue!'s main story mode you can progress from housing dogs in your own garage to running a giant, efficient shelter of your own. There will always be events that keep you on your toes, and story threads that develop between them.
Fostering and Adopting - The most important part of running a shelter is helping animals find homes. Match dogs' traits with the preferences of visitors to maximize their chances of finding homes. Find fosters who can take care of dogs when you don't have room.
In-Game Community Impact - It's not just the shelter activities that you have to manage; you also must establish the shelter as part of the community. Host events, promote, educate, and make sure that you stay in a positive light.

From the very beginning of the project, we wanted to teach about the real world problems shelters face. The truth of the matter is that there are way more dogs and cats in need than shelters can handle. It can be hard for “no-kill” shelters to take in every animal that might need help.
There are dogs that may be hard to adopt, rehabilitate, or find room for. No one ever wants to have to euthanize, but since we want to raise awareness, we don’t want to pretend that it’s not potentially part of the job. It’s not glorified or presented as an easy way out, but it’s an important part of the experience.
That being said, we do include the ability to opt out of engaging with the euthanasia mechanic, for players who would rather experience the game without it.

The game seems like it might have been a cute little management game, but it is so full of glitches that it is uplayable in its current state.
This game is fun but a lot of the main items are unusable. How are you going to make a dog shelter game and not fix a bug that doesn't let you place food/water in several of the kennels ? what's the point? why should players be forced to use the smaller ones?
The game is okay. Not really enough content. Its definitely not worth full price. There are a lot of bugs as well.
Would love to love this game, the overtime penalty singlehandedly ruins the game. $50 per overtime hour when the time moves so fast instantly turns this from a cozy dog-rescue game to grinding simulator slop, which is a shame because you have ZERO TIME to stop and look at all the little details the devs put into the game. Whatever time I put into this game was far too much. Far too stressful for some dumb flash game copy
Not really fun, pacing is just weird
I really enjoy this game. It's a simple time management game with adorable artwork and catchy music. The game fits very nicely into the cozy game category. I do wish there was more nuance and difficulty. As a shelter worker I would like to see the game grow to add more complexity with adoptions (perhaps age limits or experience levels needed), maybe an aspect where if you can work on their "bad" behaviour traits (ie, put a dog that's dominant in with a dog that's good with dogs, or if they go to foster they could lose the seperation anxiety).
I really liked this game! The art style is unique and pleasing and the gameplay loop is pretty fun. It's definitely buggy and the game does occasionally crash, which is pretty frustrating since the game saves at the beginning of each in-game day. I do wish there was a little more substance in terms of plot, after a while it's just like. "Ok what's the point of expanding and running this shelter anymore...?" But if you like satisfying sim games like me this will scratch that itch.
Game had a few bugs, but nothing too worrying or game breaking. Very cute artstyle, the minigames to play with the dogs are so cute, and it builds things up slow enough that you don't get overwhelmed. But my biggest point of praise it to do with how the game handles end of life care for the dogs. You're given a choice when you first start a save between 'Euthanasia', and 'Send Away'. And you can change to either setting in the settings menu once you've started the game. I really appreciate that, despite the cozy and cute aesthetic, the game doesn't shy away from the realities of running a shelter like this, while also non-judgementally allowing players to opt out of needing to be a full part of that experience if it's not something they want to deal with. 10/10 game design around a sensitive subject!
This game had a lot of bugs in the beginning, but as far as I know they've all been fixed and the game is quite lovely now. It's relaxing, and very easy going. The only thing I will say is that I do wish the developers would fix the adoption process, as the game progresses it gets increasingly harder to get dogs adopted, but I think it's quite easy to work around.
