Sinopsis

I wanted this game so badly. The art is so cute! But I can't recommend it. I met a bug at stage 3, where the same ennemies kept hurting my heroes who would just stand until death, regenerate and start over. As the game came out in 2016 I would have expected to not encounter a bug so early (or even at all). Also the mechanics of the game are nothing new and kind of boring. Other reviews say it was firstly released as a phone app, it definitely shows. Don't expect too much from this game.
TL:DR F**d up controls due to being lazy mobile port. Annoying achievements. Cute graphics and nice, almost relaxing gameplay if you play on normal. Things I didn't like in detail: This one is a gem with a flaw. You don't notice it that much untill you try to play on hard. You can't really put towers in place you want. Yes - you can move them, but once they reach their destiny - they start to move again in whatever doirection they want. AI and target priorities are stupid - so towers placement is important... Also moving them is quite unresponsive, since everything works as drag and drop mechanic. No keyboard shortcuts for abilities or units - all of them have to be dragged/dropped by mouse. Things get chaotic once boss with insta-kill aoe skills appears. This part will only affect achievemnt hunters: - mistakes in achievemnt descriptions (Kill 100 enemies with Starfall - should be 1000, revive 1000 - should be 100, finish 12 lvls on hard - should be 14 etc..), - achievement for killing 30 units with trap during one mission is painfull one xD Trap skill have insanelly long cooldown and deals almost no damage - it kills only smallest enemies. It's probbalby obtainable on only one or two maps and you have to learn by heart enemy spawns + execute it perfectly. I decided to pass - it's not fun anymore in that way xD
Soweit so simpel.
Tiny Guardians is a somewhat unit management/tower defense that has a movement quirk to it. Basically imagine your base can move in a tower defense. The point of the game is to advance through levels by summoning units to help you out. The game is on a levels basis and you can earn stars, which can be used to upgrade units. The concept is simple enough and there are 12 total units to unlock. 8 of the units you get through just playing through the levels and 4 of them you need to buy with gold. Overall, there are some tactics to the game, but they are relatively simple - you just need to know where to place your units and how to not get your character attacked. My one gripe with the game is that it is too short. It would have been better if they added more levels and more variety of units. Seemingly the later unlocked units and the ones you need to buy with gold are just flat out stronger than the ones you get earlier on. Introducing some other features and lengthening the gameplay would have been nice. Overall, pretty fun and relatively short game that can give you some hours worth of enjoyment. Rating: 8.6/10 Recommend Price: $7.49 (cannot recommend full price because game is a bit short)
Not great, but good enough. This is very much a mobile game, ported to PC with no changes whatsoever. Controls are all based on "tap and drag", including moving the camera around, which causes a lot of problems. I didn't want to move the camera, I wanted to move that unit. I didn't want to move that unit, I wanted to move that unit. On top of this, often times the controls just don't work and you have to try two or three times to move a unit, which usually results in death. Lastly, you have cooldown abilities which are activated by dragging a little card from the bottom corner of the screen to the middle of the battle, which is horrible design on a large PC monitor. Gameplay itself is fine and very simple. You pick which units you want to field and position them appropriately: archers far away from the enemies, swordsmen near the enemies; then the AI does the actual fighting, which is exactly what I want in a tower defense type game. Battlefields are very fluid, with enemies attacking from all sides at all times, so repositioning a lot is key. It's pretty fun. There are several boss battles, which would be okay, except they are all based on the principle of "move your units out of the way in a split second" when the boss' big attacks are queued up. Due to aforementioned unresponsive controls, your units pretty much just die a lot. Disappointing. Still, this game does what it's supposed to: give your fingers something to do. The art is cute and it's satisfying mowing down waves of enemies and levelling up your units with little extra powers like a stunning attack for a warrior or a freezing cloud for a magician. Don't pay $10. Watch for bundles and sale sites. I got this for $2 and feel good about it.
The game is unexpectedly challenging and satisfying. Although the controls are tailored to mobile, "Tiny Guardians" is perfectly playable on PC.
this is one of those love/hate games for me. pretty little game, but don't let that fool you. it is tougher than it looks. until you figure out the tricks to beating it. expect to grind quite a bit. not impossible to beat the game and unlock all achievements, but you will be challenged. if i could do it, anyone can.
I really wanted to love this game. It is charming, has a lot of offer and it is, in a way, quite unique. However, it is incredibly slow with no option to speed up the game, you cannot refund some upgrades and AI of your characters and enemies is terrible. You can literally do a level for 10 minutes just for enemies to ambush you, kill your hero in a few seconds because you had soldiers on the other side of the battlefield and then you are forced to do those 10 minutes again just to position everything correctly in advance.
