[ EDIT: I have gotten into contact with the author of the original Time Tenshi. His words are here and he provides his own damning insights on Silver Cow's nefarious business practices. https://www.deviantart.com/mysteryguy9215/journal/Hey-Silver-Cow-855450980 ] [ EDIT 2: I have also gotten into contact with the writer of this game and his confusing and unclear reasoning for what he's done. https://www.deviantart.com/orionpax09/journal/Time-Tenshi-Reviews-856275226 ] I'm a woman who writes erotica. I'm asexual, but sex-positive. As someone who played and loved the original, this is my take. I believe that sexuality is beautiful. Sex can be cute, kinks can be great for story elements. Breast expansion is a rare fetish that I feel needs more positive portrayal. The original Time Tenshi was this. It had a great story that flaunted its sexuality while still being a good tale to follow. I don't know why Silver Cow felt the need to remove the heart from their game. Perhaps they were misguided in believing the sexual elements were holding them back... Perhaps they didn't like them in the first place and they were only added for a reason out of their control. Perhaps they felt they wanted to be more respected as game makers who didn't make sexy games. Either way, I feel they were misguided. As someone who writes erotic stories, I like to focus on how the sexuality can be part of the story. The world isn't a children's show. Red light districts, brothels, sex shops. They exist. But what would they be like in another world? What is the potential for perversion for this power? What is a story element that might make someone feel their sexual interest isn't so shameful? What things can the character get into that is sexy, but can also be fun, cute, and a story? Stories can be sexy. That's nothing to be ashamed of. I enjoy putting lewd elements in my stories to make them wider. I also enjoy making those stories and worlds deeper and heavier even though they have lewdness in them. Silver Cow removed the beautiful sex-positivity from this game. They replaced it with very little. Some slightly expanded story, romance routes, and some extra animations, but... At what cost? The game lost its heart. And what was added in doesn't actually make up for what was removed. More importantly, what was added doesn't justify the price compared to the original when the original still has its heart, even though Silver Cow crudely plastered a "(2015)" retroactively on the original, a crass act of defilement of their old work to show clear favoritism to the neutered remake. Does it have some things improved? Yes. But the desecration its emotional heart wasn't worth it. The original had an amazing story with some beautiful sexuality to it. Now it's just an above-average story that was gutted in a misguided attempt to make it better or more respectable... I enjoyed Silver Cow's work. Now I can't actually support them as a game studio who I thought had true artistic integrity when they're going to spit on their older work with a poorly-priced remake that retroactively stains the title of the original and removes far more than it adds. There's also the dodgy Kickstarter behind this and the rather sketchy lack of transparency. Nowhere does this Steam page clearly state that it removed the sexuality of the original. They're not lying, but they're clearly being misleading through withholding information. It's entirely possible they may get a few extra bucks from people going in expecting a faithful and expanded remake, rather than a shadow of its former self made through misguided vanity. I'll end this with a quote from the Kickstater campaign. "Our goal with Time Tenshi is to create an entertaining, high-quality and well-told story-driven experience with a focus on character building, romance and a gripping plot. The focus this time will not be on breast expansion." Not only with this quote squirreled away at the bottom of an FAQ section, but... This proves they're either lying or just incredibly misguided. Their game WAS story focused with character building and a gripping plot. Breast expansion wasn't even the focus, and you can have a breast expansion story with character building, romance, and gripping plot. In fact, that's part of what made the original Time Tenshi great: It had ALL of that. To mutilate their game while claiming it's better in every way... I would call it despicable if it weren't so pitiable to see them do something so misguided. It's worth noting the team made videos for the remake advertising features that weren't in the final game, like voice acting. However, these features were relegated to stretch goals which weren't met, which suggests they intentionally removed features they'd already worked on to try and paywall them, and then when the paywalls weren't meant, they kept them out. I should also note that "Switch release" was a stretch goal, and even though it wasn't met, it still came out on the Switch. I should also note how shady it is that Silver Cow refuses to speak to fans, not even Kickstater backers. They're an indie development studio. Transparency is their greatest tool, and they refuse to use it. I'm sorry, Silver Cow. It was fun while it lasted. I only hope that your current path is worth the cost for whatever you hope to gain from it. Goodbye. A remake of the first Time Tenshi without the breast expansion. This feels like a generic Anime visual novel. Check out "Growth Academy" for great quality content for free. I feel like there is a market for such things, but nobody wants to risk being known for making such things.
If you are a fan of the original you will likely be very disappointed. They completely removed the BE stuff which was what made this series good in the first place. It's like if you remade PUBG without guns and expect people to buy it again. Waste of money.
Goods -More detail in story(Like how the story treats the main character & the conflict around him) -better character designs -Like the romance options of the game -Remade the story in an interesting way cons -Very bad fan service & dose not stick to its roots of the original series well -no be -normal Ending -Bit to short -Some ilustations are hard on eyes -The story is a remake from the original not a new story I recommend this game to anyone who like's there romance light novel but dosent want any fan service In my personal opinion I prefer the original due to the be & the characters had more details on the characters them selfs. Another reason is price & due to not all content being in at launch
literally just ends for no damn reason.
Before I get into the review, let me get some things said now. This is a reboot/remake of the first game with no breast expansion and very little fanservice. My opinion on it? I prefer it. Sure, this franchise is infamous for BE, but I felt this series was trying to focus on the story more. This VN isn't a fanservice VN with time travel, but a story involving time travel WITH fanservice. However, I can see why people put more focus on the fanservice. Another thing is the failed Kickstarter and the things that weren't able to make it in the game. Things like Voice acting, more illustrations, and even romance routes for the villains weren't added in. However, I'm going to judge this game as to what we were given, not what it was supposed to be. Anyways... Time Tenshi 2020 as stated above is a reboot/remake of the first Time Tenshi released in 2015. It has a couple of changes such as a page to listen to the music, more elements added to the story, and a SKIP and backlog button. Additionally, romance routes were added into the story in contrast to the original in which it was only used for like one scene. The story is the same: You are Kenji, a boy that is brought to his grandfather's lab after an unfortunate incident leaves you with no parents. With all of these things and more, it seems like Silver Cow wanted to improve on the original and focus on the story here. How did it go and is this better than the original? Let's find out.
Positives
- There are a couple of characters that were handled here, but I'll talk specifically about Kenji and Tensai. While Kenji is the same character, this VN gives us more time showing that despite feeling inferior to the others, he has some intelligence as well. Adding on to that, this version gives a few more scenes that gives us a better understanding on how this incident is affecting him. As for Tensai, I like that he is more involved in this version. It may just be with some new changes or the things they added in this story, but I feel like Tensai is handled better here as well. - Speaking of the things that were added, I like how they implemented the new character in the story. She didn't show her model, but from what the characters say about her, I'm excited if we are able to see her if SCS is planning on rebooting the franchise. For the romance "routes", one was done in a very unique way that I wasn't expecting. I enjoyed it. Some of the effects are nice. My favorites are the energy flowing in the lab background, the animation on the text box and the binary code that shows up when characters are in the time window and are about to change outfits. - The art and backgrounds are done well. The character models look nice and their mouths move. It makes them feel more alive.
Negatives
- I know I shouldn't judge the game for what isn't in it, but Mizuki and Bunni needed more screentime. I feel like I would've given this game more points if we were able to see what those romance routes given us. I'd imagine we could have gotten to know them a little better. - Speaking of romance routes, I felt like most of them weren't handled well. I get what they were doing with one of them as it did a lot to make it unique, but it just makes the other ones feel inferior. Not to mention all there is from getting enough affinity points for a girl is
a very short scene that's while nice, could've had a little bit more time to it.
- In my opinion, I think Rose and Kyo were more memorable in the original. In the original,
Kyo feeling inferior was done better there as they set the mood with the different background music.
- Lastly, performance. I know my laptop isn't the best, but I have played a couple of other VNs and it ran fine. I encountered on two instances when I clicked to advance to the next line of text, but the game stopped for a few seconds.
Nitpicks
- There were a few grammar errors that I came across while reading through this VN. For example, one line goes "They're even bigger cowards then you..." where "then" is supposed to be "than". - While I liked some effects, there were some that I wasn't a fan of. One time window side effect of changing a character's skin could've looked better. Additionally, one scene where Michelle is listening to music didn't need the additional movement. It shows how stiff these characters can move sometimes, and it makes her move like a popsicle stick puppet. - One scene had Kyo in her uniform, but she is wearing casual clothes in a CG. - I'll have to get used to Michelle's design here. I liked the original design of her as she looked older. - The opening song was nice, but the visuals need a little work. Was the part where you showed Bunni's and Mizuki's character cards for like 3 seconds necessary? - The art quality could use some work as there were some jagged lines when I looked at the illustrations in the Gallery. - The music menu looks a little boring. Maybe add something unique to it?
Overall Thoughts
That was nice. Time Tenshi 2020 adds onto the existing story while taking away breast expansion. In my eyes, they did a good job. While they weren't able to add everything they wanted, I think they did a fine job with this game. Despite my negatives like some characters not getting as much time as I'd like and the performance, I think my pros outweigh the cons. If you care only about fanservice and breast expansion, then you should buy the original. If you want a good story with added elements to make it provide a little more than the original and some neat effects, then buy this one. Want to buy both? Why not? If you are a newbie to Silver Cow, I DEFINITELY recommend getting it when it's on sale for a price that is to your liking. That is if you are interested in this VN. In closing, with the absence of BE, Time Tenshi gives you the same story as its 2015 version but with a lot of changes that make it the better version. Until my next review, thanks for reading and have a good day.
Interesting take on the classic. So, let's get the elephant out of the room. There's no BE in here. Yes, now that we have that out of the way, this is a wonderful story with memorable characters. The story is told in a much more warmhearted and emotional manner than the 2015 version. The music is very good The animation is much better than previous entries.
After I finished playing the New Time Tenshi, I have to say that this game really catches me off guard. This game is interesting and unique. Not to say I don't have some ups and downs in this game, but this game really sends me on a wild ride through my time playing it. I'm already coming up with theories or what if ideas that might happen. To start off, I would like to talk about some of the ups and downs I have for this game, warning: there are spoilers ahead: UPS: 1. Kenji and Tensai: This game did a really good job at portraying the main character, Kenji Johnson. Especially with his emotional states. When Kenji feels sad, I admit I would shed a tear or two as well. When he angry, I could feel his anger and understood the stress he is going through perfectly. What also made me like Kenji in this game is how analytical he is compared to the other characters. Literally, he was able to piece together who the “Commander” was, in either the main story or the alternate route. And when he is placed in an argument, he can not only keep his ground, but also contradict his opposition. For Tensai, I would say he by far my most favorite character in this game, even more than the other girls and Kenji. I love how this version of Time Tenshi shows how stress or worried Tensai can be, I mean he also suffers from the fire incident along with Kenji. What made me like Tensai the most is this line, “Now this machine has taken another of my friends from me...” This literally made me feel like just how much of a father Tensai is to his team members, even when angry he still cares for his team. 2. Choices: I had a lot fun with this game choices, many of these choices are used to help Kenji find “Sticky notes” and gain “affinity points” with any of the three main female characters, Kyo, Rose, and Michelle. And depending how much affinity point gained for a specific character, a new route is unlocked to gain a different ending for the game. I literally made a list to see if I can get all the dating scenarios and both ending for this game. 3. Storytelling: The story for this game is one of the best I have ever read. The emotions, the situation, the conflicts, and the argues all left me with my mouth wide open the whole time. There were many times when this game would have me jumping off my chair when playing. Specifically, “the china chase scene,” “Kenji and Mizuki coward arguments” and “the bottle scene (either choice). These scenes were too perfect. I love how in the “china chase scene,” how this basically confirmed that a character who disappeared in the time window is still alive and how Kenji had his first argument with Mizuki. For the “Kenji and Mizuki coward arguments,” there clash with the idea of who is more cowardly was really interesting. I mean we have an armed ninja vs an unarmed protagonist, and the protagonist was standing his ground even when threatens with his life, he did not even flinch. Finally, the “bottle scene, whichever choices Kenji choice, there are two amazing outcomes that happens. Both outcomes left me with one of these two emotions, “Drop the bottle in the bucket” https://j.gifs.com/yx24ME.gif “Attack Michelle” https://64.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4dh4xcA2F1rn5beeo1_500.gif 4. Hidden Characters: This game has me really excited for upcoming characters such as the “cheerleader” and the “princess.” I also like how this game made me curious about Petra, whether we will see her or not. Maybe Petra would be like the sixth “Power Ranger” or “Super Sentai” of the group. DOWNS: 1. Characters nitpicks: Mizuki and Bunni: I love how this game adds a little bit more to these characters, such as how much Mizuki believe in the risk and how she keeps calling the good guys cowards and how Bunni is trying her best to hide her sorrow. But I just wish we could have more interaction with these girls a little bit more. https://64.media.tumblr.com/eb146691f4ebd54fce09a2dfc0fdaaa6/tumblr_nfa19goGhL1qc7cmzo3_500.gif Kyo and Rose: For both Kyo and Rose, I kinda wish that their dating scenario with Kenji were a bit more meaningful, I think it’s because I was having a hard time trying to figure out when did these girls had a date with Kenji in this game compared to Michelle, was it during or after the main ending. For Kyo, I’ll admit I kinda miss her pervy side in Time Tenshi 2. For Rose, I wish I could have seen her casual outfit more often. Michelle: My only complaint, her time effect scene was so short. Guess I am never destined to see Michelle’s reaction to a time effect (as I remembered TT1 and TT2). https://i.pinimg.com/originals/51/5f/c5/515fc550166bcd60a40ec39fa02c0176.gif 2. Illustration: I will admit, I wished that this game had more illustration. I felt that this game mainly focused more on the texts and the characters sprites and special effects. Personally, I would like to see more illustration, at least that fit with the story. Just because my eyes get tired easily from reading too much, I blame my habits for my studying. https://media1.tenor.com/images/1624fbe7cfd927495e81c52938dae8a5/tenor.gif?itemid=5428221 3. Time Effects: My only complaint for the time effect is that I still feel curious. I want to know more about the new rules or laws that the effect has. Like are certain effects are more likely to happen to specific characters. What effects are worst case? And will there the consequence? 4. Too Short: This game was too short, I need more. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/82/e9/e7/82e9e7713acefba2eccc892a0abe7493.gif Overall, this is an awesome game to play, I highly recommend it for anyone to play it. I really want to see how much Kenji will grow as a character. And how will the story progress in the next game. Some wishes I have for the next game or maybe the third game: Quantum Guard: I really want the next game to reintroduce the quantum guards again, but maybe add some new features, such as maybe invisibility or elemental attacks. Kenji time suit and Quantum Guard: Seeing how all the girl’s transformation a based on the magical girl genre, I would like to see Kenji transformation be inspired by the tokusatsu, such as Kamen riders, ultraman, super sentai (power rangers) and metal heroes. As for his quantum guard, it would be cool if Kenji’s guard would allow him to either fuse or make union with one of the girls at a time, for example, if Kenji fuse with Rose, his suit would turn yellow, based on her hair color, and it would take more of a knight like features. Transformation example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6niA6gfOTEo Michelle and everyone trust towards her: Seeing how everyone’s interaction towards Michelle after the paradox, I feel that she is going to have a hard time gain the trust of the others. I would like to see how different many of the characters interact with Michelle compared to TT2. Maybe Rose and Kyo would have a hard time trusting her, just like a sibling betraying their other sibling. I could not tell if Kenji fully remembered the previous timeline in this game, but I would find it interesting if instead of having flashback of the “fire,” Kenji started getting some flashbacks of the previous timeline, maybe in order to gain “affinity points” for Michelle, Kenji need to find ways so the others can start trusting Michelle again. As for Tensai, I have a hard time seeing Tensai acting cold towards Michelle just like in TT2. Maybe, when he is acting cold towards Michelle, he just tries to hide is worried for Michelle. Maybe in the next game a scene like this may happen to Michelle and Tensai. https://media1.tenor.com/images/b114b6fb66a6434c095ab2b6e24253e4/tenor.gif?itemid=7680348 Evil Kenji (introducing alternate timeline): I always wondered if Time Tenshi would introduce the alternate timeline.Maybe there a Kenji where he goes crazy after throwing the bottle and he started going on a mental rage hunting down different Michelles from a different timeline.
a very dissapointing remake the original version was so good and then they had to ruin it the paradox episodes were alreddy terrible its such a shame i was hoping there would be some differences a plotline that diddnt happend in the orignal version and besides the missing 4th girl there issnt anything new about it it even has the exact same ending as in the orignal version so am sure if they are gonna do a remake of time tenshi 2 we will meet the princses i was really hoping for some differences like maby a romance option for bunnie and mizuki the orginal version of this story is 100% better then this dissapointment a big failure.
