Kinda fun for an hour or two, but really nothing to do after that. Seriously not worth it for over a tenner. Three hours in I've got most things unlocked and nothing to do. All there is left is restarting the level to farm random achievements. You unlock these for random drops from prop destruction.
With 1,300+ reviews, make sure to follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Aliens have come to save the Earth from humankind, you play the role of an alien inside of a giant robot. You will control this robot by moving either to the left or right of the scrolling screen. You will hit a barrier at each end halting your moment any further. However, you can unlock the barrier allowing you to progress further by defeating the Boss when it appears. The Boss appears as a giant Blimp, a massive airship that you must reduce its health to zero in order to defeat the boss. I’ve had the boss appear fairly quickly at times but I’ve also had the boss appear after playing for quite a while. I don’t think that there’s is a standard time and is more random before the Boss appears. While you wait for the boss, you’re to create havoc, shooting the buildings, vehicles and the different types of humans under your feet. To begin with you have a regular cannon, this will overheat and you’ll be unable to fire until it cools downs so keep an eye on it otherwise you could find yourself in a pickle. Destroying the buildings and other items along your path can reveal hidden Items. Finding these will unlock the corresponding item in the achievements, in total there are fifty-eight achievements for you to collect. For those one hundred percenters out there, the achievements are pretty easy to collect as they can be found anywhere in any playthrough for most of them, although some will require you to perform an action a number of times in order to unlock such as trample 999 humans. While you may just want to kill everything, you’re not going to want to do that all the time. Instead of shooting all the humans you can instead collect them using your Tractor Beam. There are different types of humans to collect but you will want to keep an eye out for the Elvises. These humans can be identified by the musical notes above them, collecting them will allow you to unlock new technology. It takes a certain number of Elvises to unlock a tech and as you collect an Elvis, it will detail you on the screen how many is left to collect for the next technology to unlock. In total you have fourteen technologies to unlock. Before you can take advantage of any new tech you unlock you must first buy the technology. Payment for the technology is made with humans, so not only will you have to collect Elvises but you’ll have to collect a number of humans to buy a technology. It costs between one hundred and five hundred humans depending on the technology you which to buy. Some of the technology on offer to you consists of X2 Cannon, Power Legs, Food Processor and Shield Generator all of which can help you in some way as you save the Earth. Your main weapon is your cannon but your robot has two legs which can be used to trample humans as well as vehicles and later you can turn your robot into a rolling ball of devastation and turn the humans into a stain on the sidewalk by unlocking the options in the technology lab. The humans aren’t going to just let you waltz into town and start causing havoc and abducting them without fighting back. You’ll have to deal with various different types of humans that will attack you Police, Army, Parachutists, Snipers along with vehicles like Tanks and Rocket Launchers all after a piece of your botty. Keep an eye out for the little doggies roaming the streets, using your tractor beam on them is fine but please don’t shoot them. I did (cat lover), I shot everything which moved but I didn’t read everything which appeared on screen. I kept having problems with my cannon jamming, it took me a while to figure out that shooting the dogs was the cause of my weapon jamming. The games pixel graphics are great and the game is fun to play although there isn’t really much to it and is a bit repetitive. Each time you fight the boss it is the same and the game just gets a bit harder through more enemy and their attacking vehicles. While normally after defeating a boss a new area will open at each end of the game area, after a few bosses there are no new area unlocks. This is one of those games though which is great for a quick game or two here and there rather than playing a long gaming session. Trying to beat your high score which can be found on one of the buildings, so keep your mince pies open if you want to find your score. The achievements are easy enough for those who like to one hundred percent a game. The game has full controller support but I played the game using keyboard and mouse will no problems, I haven’t tried using a controller as I’d prefer to aim using the mouse which I believe gives greater control. There’s not much in the way of settings Full Screen, Music, Sound Effects and Tutorial On and Off options are all you are getting. Positives + Nice pixel graphics + Fun game for a quick bash + Full controller support + Has achievements Negatives - A bit repetitive - No cards currently Lead the alien invasion in your robot and liberate the earth from the humans in They Came From The Sky 2 6/10
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB!
Another good pixel art game from FobTi interactive , amazing graphics and nice 80s vibes, good meta progression system!
Amazing little game where you can see that the Author really care about the content and what players say that could be improved or changed. It is still in Early Access, so lot of stuff should come in the future, but even now it is already hours of fun. Finding the way how to survive and how to abduct more and more people is so much fun. With each upgrade you can feel that your endurance is higher. Great job done on such a small canvas and can't wait where this will end up after it leaves early access.
Very fun retro vibe, love the visuals and gameplay!
relaxing
Assuming no game breaking bugs/features are introduced i'd say the latest update added just enough content for me to give a careful purchase recommendation for the game. Developer is adding lots of features with constant patches so game will at this rate change drastically by the time it leaves Early Access as the different versions i have played have been very different in content (read: getting better) and difficulty has gone down somewhat but as it is now it is a fun and enjoyable quick 15+ minute romp for me. It seems this game is going to be a very competent game in it's genre with it's humorous theme. It is already well on it's way to be a good game as it is now.
The game is fun, I like to play games where you are evil protagonist. I am not sure where all those Elvises are coming from (I suppose humans made cloning device and are planning to invade home world of those aliens and that's the reason why they attacked Earth), but I like to kidnap them and use their DNA for unlocking new technology :D Anyway game play is smooth, pixel-art is beautiful and you also have destroyable environment in this small indie game. So I am looking forward to the full game release and opportunity to destroy all Elvises they throw at me. -spoiler alert- You should prepare your cryptonite :)
