About
Note: This game is a remake of the 2015 visual novel The Way We All Go by ebi-hime. This remake contains entirely new character sprites and backgrounds, over forty new event CGs, and an entirely new soundtrack. The game has also been remastered in 1080p. There is one new route and several bonus extra scenes to unlock which were not present in the original visual novel.

The year is 1980, and it's been two years since Atsushi, affectionately nicknamed as Atcchan, left his hometown: a small village deep in the Japanese countryside. Now, after all of this time, he is returning for a scant three days during the summer, which will be spent with his grandparents.
During these two years, Atcchan failed to keep in contact with his two childhood friends: the shy artist Noelle and the cheerful tomboy Amu. Will he be able to reconnect with his old friends, or will his brief stay in the countryside result in tragedy?
That is up for the player to decide, in this heavily branching horror/romance visual novel with over 20 different endings. Whether Atcchan will be able to reconcile with his friends is entirely up to you.

[後半に日本語レビューあり]
A VN remake where small kindness—or cruelty—decides someone’s fate
A young man returns to his hometown, where reunion with his childhood friends leads him to make a series of irreversible choices beneath the calmness of summer. What begins as tranquil everyday life gradually tilts toward obsession, jealousy, and death. A single act of kindness—or a moment of rejection—becomes the turning point that seals the future. As a remake of the 2015 version, every element has been completely rebuilt. Character sprites and backgrounds are newly drawn in 1080p, with over 40 additional CGs. The story preserves the original text yet refines the writing and pacing, leaving a smoother and more natural impression. A new route and sixteen short epilogues explore the “after” and “what-if” moments that were never told in the original. The soundtrack has also been fully renewed, smoothly shifting between calm daily tones and unease, recreating the same sense of nostalgia and anxiety the original captured. The story’s tone constantly holds two sides. Behind the peaceful scenes of a Showa-era summer—sunlight through shoji doors, the faint scent of tatami—lie unrestrained obsession and regret. There are no jump scares; instead, the narrative unfolds as a slow psychological horror, where memories and relationships themselves begin to crumble. There are more than twenty possible endings, ranging from forgiveness and possession to loss. Each decision subtly changes how the characters are perceived, and every conclusion leaves a trace of reality and pain. Beneath the gentle memories of summer lies madness and remorse that could happen to anyone—a quiet yet cruel coming-of-age drama drawn with careful intimacy.
Check out our Steam curator (link) , YouTube channel (link), and X(Twitter) (link)!
The original The Way We All Go was one of the first games I ever purchased on Steam and enjoyed, so seeing a Remake 10 years later made me so happy. I haven't gone through every route fully yet but I highly recommend this game whether you've never played an ebi-hime game before or if you're a fan of the original The Way We All Go. This is so peak.
World's most bullyable twink attracts every sadist in a 50 mile radius and sometimes people die in the process. Impressive number of routes through the game. Not only do almost all of your choices actually matter for the ending you get, the game also secretly opens new routes as you get endings. I wouldn't say most of the game is particularly *romantic* but the sheer number of ways you can interact with the girls means you are frequently seeing other sides of them and thus seeing the same events in new lights. The skip/rewind functions work very well and you get a ton of save slots and unlocks so it makes experimenting feel very rewarding. The protag is a guy which is usually a minus for me, but this guy is such a trembling nervous chihuahua that it works. Atcchan being a spineless avoidant weakling instead of a masculine idiot jerk is very intentional and woven into the narrative. He has a history of pulling people close and then being flighty and inconsistent and it makes the yandere behavior feel more earned compared to a lot of depictions. Atcchan has hurt these girls despite never intending to be cruel, and that's the way things go sometimes. Could this have been told as a yuri story? Yes, but I think having the protagonist be male makes the deconstruction of typical romance and yandere tropes more apparent. You can play through multiple routes in this game where absolutely nothing bad happens despite the setting and that's kind of the point. Around 25 hours to see everything, with a lot of extras on offer. One route may be anywhere from a few minutes to several hours depending on your choices and use of text skipping.
it should not function as well as it does - and after 10 years it is still a messy thing. But it drives itself forward with its own disfunction: the archetypes the cliches, it leans into with a comfort, and it works - nearly always. BUT WHAT is the the way we all go actually trying to say? It is an existentalist piece as much as it is a reflection on the visual novel as a whole; it is a very stupid web of choices, with a very simple web of characters, that both occupy the same space. It is also a reflection on ebi-hime's whole body of work: a reclining, softly, back into a time where the goal was to make something meaningful (kind of) - we can see this in Asphyxia too, a lot of the early novels, have this pursuit, but always a slipping mask of the tropisms, the tawdry, the obscene... if the way we all go is not saying anything particularly meaningful - it is but also isn't - it is first an aesthetic meditation (though, I find the aesthetics to be less charming than the original, that's a bias), but primarily the way we all go is an intensity. You find yourself, going back through the endings, choices, conversations, like a leaf picker - the characters say a lot, but they aren't a lot - but they're clawing desperately at language at the limits they function in to say more than they are capable of. Emblemised of course by Noelle - everything comes back to the desire to have more time, the desire to say more than is possible, the desire for the impossible and the way we all go returning - and not even really giving us anymore time, even after ten years, means it understands this entirely. The characters of equal substance and meaninglessness fade away, as they did ten years ago, but fade a bit better, a bit more professionally, before hiding back away in the recesses of ebi-hime's work. it's the best
游戏概述
《The Way We All Go》,中文译名《我们终将走向何方》,是一款融合了乡村怀旧浪漫以及心理恐怖的视觉小说。
Honestly I’ve been having a blast with this game! I didn’t know what to expect since I hadn’t played the original, but I’ve enjoyed trying to get all the endings and just seeing the little changes in dialogue depending on how your choices change. It’s a mix of romance, horror, and slice of life with lots of interesting characters. I definitely recommend checking it out!
I didn't know much about The Way We All Go other than it was ebi's first commercial VN and that a lot of people in the EVN community had nostalgia for the original. So I was really excited to hear it was getting a full remake. I would describe it as a thriller with a lot of different choices that lead to many different endings. Many of the endings lead to different "fragments," or epilogues, so you have plenty to read. There are a ton of CGs as well. As of this review, I've gotten about 10 endings, some good and some bad. What really stands out to me about the writing is the way it portrays mental health issues through certain characters. I tend to expect Yandere characters to be somewhat one note, but that's not the case here at all. Without spoiling anything, Noelle is the best character in the visual novel, and ebi does a great job of getting the reader to understand why she is pushed to do the horrific acts she commits. Amu and Attchan are great as well, especially Attchan. I can get very annoyed with male VN protagonists, but he's a sweet and endearing kid. I also love the art a lot. AuCrowne has done art for some of ebi's other VNs, and it is great to see them return. The sprite work is very cute, while also being eerie at times, and the CGs look great. Like I said earlier, there are an impressive number of CGs especially for an indie VN. The UI looks great too, and it's very user friendly given that you will be using the skip button a lot. If you're a fan of ebi's work, especially her darker content, then you absolutely shouldn't skip this one.
there is at least one cute yandere and a lot of endings to find
The Way We All Go is, without exaggeration, one of the best visual novels I've ever read. I can say that I really enjoyed discovering the endings, even if I only managed to get a few without guides. About the characters, I can say that I liked Noelle the most, probably because I see myself in her; she and I had a similar cruel and sad past, and that's probably why I was able to understand her and have great sympathy for her. Besides Noelle, I can say that I really liked Atcchan and Amu, and a bit of Eri. Atcchan is not your typical self-insert male protagonist that you find in many visual novels, and he is not a pervert or a jerk; he is an adorable boy who blushes a lot haha. I feel that Amu was the heart of the story, in the sense that her cheerful and playful personality helped a lot to relax the story in many parts; however, sometimes I found her a bit annoying.I don't really have much to say about Eri, but the fact that she cares a lot about her rabbit, Shiro, shows that she's a sensitive girl who doesn't really know how to open up to other people; she's not a bad person. Regarding the music, I can say that I really liked the soundtrack. I think that every song fits the atmosphere of this visual novel. I can say that my favorite soundtrack is Honey Jasmine. Regarding the art, I can say that I really like it. I recognized AuCrowne's cute style, especially since I'm familiar with her drawing style thanks to The Fairy's visual novels (my favorite visual novels of all time). Both the CGs and the chibi illustrations are adorable and cute; however, one note: the chibi illustrations are drawn by a different artist, but I still consider them cute too, just like the ones drawn by AuCrowne. I can see that Ebi put a lot of effort into this visual novel, and I want her to know (if she sees this review) that I enjoyed this visual novel a lot. Congratulations, Ebi! Keep it up! Do I recommend this visual novel? OF COURSE!
The new art and music in this remake is really nice. It was nice to revisit these characters after playing the old version. I think I'm more sympathetic to the characters this time around (especially Noelle), not because of a change in writing, but because I had time to think about the reflect on the story between the original and the remake. I got used to them in my head, I guess. I think the added endings, with the new character, gave me an unhappier final impression than the Comiket ending, which used to be the last one you would get. It's a nice ending that doesn't focus on any of the three main girls, focusing more on Paya, but they all get along. Now the fox ending is the last one you'll get. It also has basically an equal balance on all three girls, but you have to mistreat Noelle a little to get it. I had to reckon with the fact that I've gotten so many bad endings because I've favored Amu over Noelle, or because I wanted 100% completion. Noelle forgives Atcchan, because she does, but I'm not sure if he really deserves it anymore. I made Atcchan do bad things in this VN that sometimes feels more like a puzzle than a story, pulling little levers that please or offend the characters, and in the new endings, they're all canon to that. It's like it's my fault that Noelle has suffered so much. I was complicit in the horrors. I think the new endings really suit the VN. Oh, and the fragments (stories you unlock after getting endings), were short, fun little segments. They're just that, fluff. I do appreciate added references to other ebi-hime VNs in the remake, but that's because I'm a sucker for those kinds of things. The references are fanservice that don't really add to the story, so you don't have to try to read as many has her VNs as possible to appreciate The Way We All Go. It's nice, though.
