Gore Screaming Show

!! A PATCH IS REQUIRED TO FULLY ENJOY THIS VN !! As my first Eroguro it wasnt as bad as the title makes it out to be so this could be a good vn to ease your way into this genre considering the gore is pretty much only in the bad endings and that they are pretty much static images + not very hyperealistic. Beyond that the narrative was fairly engaging for me and I didn't get *bored* reading through it all. There is a recommended order for the routes and you should really follow that because it eases you into the story better that way (especially with how the bad endings that are not Akane are much gorier than hers) At the end of the final route I was left satisfied with the entire story so I don't regret reading it

To be fully honest, I did not really enjoy this VN at first. It's a very slow burn. The first 3 routes vary from pretty good to just why (Kiika's route in particular left me dumbfounded). I get this is supposed to be a messed up VN with a lot of horrific imagery, but half the time that horrific imagery was so over the top it just made me laugh at how bizarre and stupid it was (That could just be a me issue, I may be too desensitized to this stuff). Regardless, the story was still interesting enough for me to keep going, to find out the mystery behind the main antagonist. The final two stories are where it cemented itself for me. As the mystery fully unravels, I could not help but feel emotional. The way this VN portrays trauma and the fear of being alone forever. Being trapped in the past and not being able to see a future. The pure hatred and malice a person can feel for themselves and the world around them. It will stick with me. Though that wasn't really what I expected when I went into this, I was hoping for an experience similar to "Saya No Uta". But for what it's worth, even with all of the bad, this was a great read! Don't even get me started on how good the soundtrack is. 8/10

weird bug where i had to reopen the game like every hour and a half or else it would freeze and i couldnt play, besides that peak aoi, yamiko and yuka are my goats <3

1) the steam censored version is, no exaggeration, about 5% of the actual content of the game. you MUST download and patch the directors cut to even enjoy the story. the fact that steam brazenly sells what is maybe 4 hours worth of a visual novel for thirty dollars is actual insanity (however, the patch is free. google it) 2) this is not the sort of game you can recommend to people you know irl 2.5) i still recommend this game to people if you think youre the kind of person who can handle...very extreme...horror. while the h scenes arent super frequent, theyre gratuitous and last far too long, beyond the scope of serving a horror narrative. outside of that, the characters (besides kyoji, who is a juvenile aggressive ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ all the time) are enjoyable and the mystery/story is compelling enough. the horror scenes take time to build and have a good payoff imo 3) if youre also running into the problem with the game lagging after an hour of having it open, simply run the .exe as administrator to fix it 4) aoi best girl

finished only one route. It's decent, but I don't really have a desire to do other routes. Pulp fiction

it's nine in the morning and i'm writing by the seat of my pants about gore screaming show. read with caution. or whimsy. whatever suits your fancy. i tend to approach violent (or otherwise extreme) nukiges as blind as possible and a neutral mindset. at the end of every one that i play, i ask myself a simple question: "Was the endurance test worth it?" I'm not sure with this one. I think it was. Gore Screaming Show, now 20 years old (and receiving a remake, apparently, which is neat), is a time capsule. The setting, the cast, the art, the gratuitous display of sexuality and depravity - it just FEELS 2000's in a way I don't know how to describe in words. It's as extra as it is subtle, as powerful as it is wince-inducing. Spoiler talk below. A common complaint that I find uttered is that Yuka's trauma does not excuse or justify her actions, but I don't think that the narrative was ever trying to justify anything poorly that she and Gore did. These are things that, route choices depending, happened. A very hurt, very lonely little girl was presented with a violent monster who loved, took care of, and watched out for her. You're telling me that if you were fourteen, hurt, terrified, and presented with traumas that are not only yours, but pushed upon you by the presence of others, and you were given such a thing, you *wouldn't* go a little mad with power? GSS is a story about trauma and how we move forward from it - not by ourselves (as shown via yuka and, arguably, kyoji in yamiko's route) - but by those we allow into our lives and let hold our hands. It's by the patience, care, and love by both those we carry *and* what we find within ourselves. I don't know, man. I need coffee. GSS was as impactful as it was upsetting. It's not goreschlock but it's not something to dive into if you have a weak stomach. Despite my personal complaints about various decisions (both in writing and presentation), I did enjoy the experience, and I'll be thinking about it for a while. Maybe I'll even write something coherent about it someday. Use your own judgement if you choose to take Yuka's hand and dive into her world for a bit. She'll be waiting in the mountains whether you decide to trek up them or not.

One of the best horror visual novels out there, up with the likes of Saya No Uta, ToToNo (You, Me and Her: A Love Story) and Wonderful Everyday/SubaHibi. I fully recommend getting the 18+ content extras because they add important context moments that the story would fall apart without. It's well-written, with each route being almost equally compelling and entertaining. The characters are well-rounded and deeply flawed human beings, but nevertheless intriguing and charming. The only negative I can really say about the game is that, compared to the later works of its artist Ueda Metawo (see MinDead Blood and Night Shift Nurses 2024 remake), the CGs and art feel rather dated and of their time. In a way though, it's all part of the charm, and it didn't dissuade me from enjoying it. In summary: Read it if you like horror and can handle strong gore scenes. If you can't, then this ain't for you.
