About
"Tavern in the Woods" is a single-player, first-person, story-driven mystery.
You take on the role of a weary traveler, and your journey has led you down an unfamiliar path through sparse and lonely countryside—a forgotten wilderness. At last, you arrive at an ancient tavern, nestled deep within the encroaching woods. Your heart weighs heavy with doubt—will there be room for you to rest? But as you step inside, you find only silence, an empty place, and a lingering mystery waiting in the shadows.
You assume the role of a first-person protagonist, exploring the environment as the story gradually unfolds.
This is a work of interactive fiction that immerses you in a haunted landscape.
Atmosphere: An immersive, medieval-era setting—you arrive at the tavern late at night only to find it deserted. With no horse, no weapons, and only the expectation of a meal and a bed, your evening takes an unsettling turn.
No Combat: The game focuses on atmosphere, exploration and narrative. Combat is not required, though you may be witness to it!
Investigation: Where has everyone gone? Is a dark supernatural force at work? Uncover the truth through careful exploration.
Game Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour (or 1–2 hours for thorough explorers).
No Save Function: Due to the short playtime, saving is not currently implemented.
Presently only Keyboard and Mouse Controls are compatible with the game.

an interesting game
Short, creepy story set in the late 16th century. Go to the tavern first, as instructed by the narrator who gives you the Vincent Price vibe (very cool!). You'll know how to progress from there. Follow the cues in the notes to traverse the linear path to the end, but make sure you find Otto! Six easy achievements in 20 minutes or less. There are settings available if needed. No issues for me on my low end PC.
Worth trying, def see the potential for future projects, keep it up

This game is a lot like walking around the setting of what could be a promising horror game. I thought i was stuck or didnt know how to progress until i read the other reviews.
Well, what to say about this. It's free to play game, so that's big plus. And that's probably all positive you can say about it. This game seems to be just some first-game project. It feels very unfinished. Graphics look decent, visual effects look spectacular, but game itself is poorly optimized. Game takes like 10 minutes to finish. Story is progressing in weird manner - there are like 2-3 short voice monologues, rest is paper scraps full of text. Story seems to have interesting setting and theme, but overall execution is like it's nonexistent. I get it. It's free to play game. So you expect some lack of quality in graphics and gameplay. But without intersting and atleast a little bit finished story, this game is just waste of time.
Really nice little indie story. No complaints. The dev said that that they were going to expand on the story. I hope that they do more and bigger things. One thing I thought was strange is that the moon is really low, and you can walk past it. Maybe this is something in the upcoming story, maybe not. Doesn't bother me, just a little strange to see. Could probably reduce the run speed a tiny bit too. Really nice little game though. Wouldn't mind it being longer, like an amnesia type game but in the forest. Either way worth trying out for sure.
I can move in this game! But my mouse doesn't work, cuz apparently the only thing to click is the esc, quit and uninstall
Its an interesting interactive story with dark and magical elements. There is a little jump scare but its very light i would hardly call it a horror. It doesn't seem to have a discernible ending at the moment but worth the short play through.
Interesting little experience. I didn't get every achievement, but seeing the general story took me ten minutes, which is totally fine for what it is (and it's not like I paid for it). There was a jump scare early on that legit got me, which doesn't happen very often, so I'll give kudos there. The pages you read tell an interesting little fantasy story, and I never felt like anything was taking too long to happen. Using a
goblin
as a central... hero? Character? I'm not sure how to characterize it. Anyway, using that as that is different, though the model looks a LITTLE out of place. My biggest complaint is the narration, and this is a weird complaint: I don't know if it's a problem with the sound quality or what, but it has a slight echo to the voice, that makes it sound almost synthetic, like it's a text-to-speech, even though it clearly isn't. It just takes you out of it a little bit, which is a shame because I honestly quite enjoyed this and look forward to seeing what the developer does next, whether they do another free quickie or something more substantial. I played this because I'm a fan of visual novels and it's marked as one in the tags, and I don't think I would classify it as a visual novel? It's a walking simulator. Debatably an adventure game, depending on your definition, but it's pretty firmly more in the vein of Dear Esther and Beginner's Guide, if only in gameplay rather than substance. I enjoy walking sims too, so I have no issue with that, I just need to give that distinction.
