About
"Tavern in the Woods" is a single-player, first-person, story-driven mystery.
You take on the role of a weary traveler, and your journey has led you down an unfamiliar path through sparse and lonely countryside—a forgotten wilderness. At last, you arrive at an ancient tavern, nestled deep within the encroaching woods. Your heart weighs heavy with doubt—will there be room for you to rest? But as you step inside, you find only silence, an empty place, and a lingering mystery waiting in the shadows.
You assume the role of a first-person protagonist, exploring the environment as the story gradually unfolds.
This is a work of interactive fiction that immerses you in a haunted landscape.
Atmosphere: An immersive, medieval-era setting—you arrive at the tavern late at night only to find it deserted. With no horse, no weapons, and only the expectation of a meal and a bed, your evening takes an unsettling turn.
No Combat: The game focuses on atmosphere, exploration and narrative. Combat is not required, though you may be witness to it!
Investigation: Where has everyone gone? Is a dark supernatural force at work? Uncover the truth through careful exploration.
Game Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour (or 1–2 hours for thorough explorers).
No Save Function: Due to the short playtime, saving is not currently implemented.
Presently only Keyboard and Mouse Controls are compatible with the game.

Short but sweet game. It's free and made by only one developer which shows the talent and work ethic they have. I didn't really expect a long gametime and overall it was fun to play. For the developers next game though, I do recommend a few things. If the character can use a lantern/light of some kind it'll improve immersion for the player, and also being able to interact with doors instead of simply walk into them will really improve that too. I also think that being able to interact better with books/journals will have a similar benefit instead of the text just popping up when you walk in the area of it. There's a lot more I can think of as well but those two small things would be nice to have.

Says 30 min to 2 hours, but I don't see how. I finished the game with all achievements in 20 minutes. It's... fine. It works. It's nothing special.
I like the premise here and really like the look of the game itself. It's quite beautiful. However I had some really bad technical issues such as words staying on the screen forever and lagging during loading to the point of me wondering if the game had crashed. I was a bit lost regarding what to do because the way the notes are set on the screen made it hard for me to read but that's a personal issue although the screen being littered by words that wouldn't go away didn't help. I do, however, recommend this game because I believe you'll work on optimization in the long run. The game itself is worth the effort and I'm keen to try it again after you've put the finishing touches in place.
It's free and easy to 100%... Short so can't write you an essay. But had fun exploring. Worth a shot! Not sure why it's tagged as a visual novel though because it's not. Good job I found it as I filter out that trash genre.
This game has great graphics! It's a quick little game, but the story you find in the notes is interesting! If you're looking for a little adventure, check out this game! With the quality of the game for how short it is, I'd say this dev has good things in their future!
there are plenty of graphics settings now so I can play without nausea (thanks) walking into doors instead of an interaction button makes walking simulator a little annoying (not egregious here though just a little annoying). When reading notes they all seem to start halfway scrolled through instead of at the beginning (again not a big deal just a little annoying) For fancy text its actually very legible so thanks for picking a good font. very visually appealing and as a non-enjoyer of walking sims this one is pretty good (seemingly well built, self-contained story that doesn't overstay its welcome) decent story and written believably enough (a lot of these type of games have awful writing full of errors, this isn't one of them). small, simple, and contained. (the map is a fitting size and not overly bloated and empty) you can sprint jump backwards, not really anything important just a cool thing I noticed
A fun mini story. My only complaint is that I personally found the font a little hard to read. But accessibility issues aside, I definitely enjoyed myself and for the low low price of FREE, you can't really complain.
Дуже коротка гра з гарною атмосферою. Кінцівки як такої не має поки що, бігаєш розглядаєш усе по карті, я вспіла налякатися навіть хд
This game is a lot like walking around the setting of what could be a promising horror game. I thought i was stuck or didnt know how to progress until i read the other reviews.
