About
"Tavern in the Woods" is a single-player, first-person, story-driven mystery.
You take on the role of a weary traveler, and your journey has led you down an unfamiliar path through sparse and lonely countryside—a forgotten wilderness. At last, you arrive at an ancient tavern, nestled deep within the encroaching woods. Your heart weighs heavy with doubt—will there be room for you to rest? But as you step inside, you find only silence, an empty place, and a lingering mystery waiting in the shadows.
You assume the role of a first-person protagonist, exploring the environment as the story gradually unfolds.
This is a work of interactive fiction that immerses you in a haunted landscape.
Atmosphere: An immersive, medieval-era setting—you arrive at the tavern late at night only to find it deserted. With no horse, no weapons, and only the expectation of a meal and a bed, your evening takes an unsettling turn.
No Combat: The game focuses on atmosphere, exploration and narrative. Combat is not required, though you may be witness to it!
Investigation: Where has everyone gone? Is a dark supernatural force at work? Uncover the truth through careful exploration.
Game Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour (or 1–2 hours for thorough explorers).
No Save Function: Due to the short playtime, saving is not currently implemented.
Presently only Keyboard and Mouse Controls are compatible with the game.

I love the lighting and general ambience. I hope another similar one is made or that this one is expanded into a longer experience/story.
Pretty cool for a free game with achievements. It was cool to explore. About fifteen minutes of gameplay. The game is very dark and was disappointed there was no brightness settings but its a horror game so its supposed to be dark, but other than that, it's pretty fun.
This is a relatively short game (~30 minutes), but it is story-rich and atmospheric. I've played it 3 times, I think, and I really love it. I love the artwork style and moodiness of the scenery. There are little sound effects that give just enough creepiness without making you "scared". I personally love walking simulators with a great story, and this hits the mark. I really hope to see more from this developer!
A decent game. I liked the music and some of the effects. The story, though simple, explained why the Wild Hunt appears, and if you read every journal entry, you discover a love story.
I ran around the environment first thing since I was curious how big the map was. I ran into this graveyard and a goblin appeared in this flash of light. This game has two visibility modes I guess: fireworks off in your face that are super loud or barely visible lol. Anyway the goblin I think got away? Then a bunch of fireworks went off in this ruined building and the goblin killed a couple hogwarts students. Then I ran up to the goblin and he waved at me or something and seemed happy, then disappeared and a note said something about the goblin being a woman and i think that was a twist or something? I'm assuming I saw the ending first. When I actually investigated the titular tavern I think i found like a single note and that's it. I know this is free and I feel bad saying this - I mean with this with respect (making games is hard) - but like... I just don't think there's enough here to be worth playing regardless and it needs either more content or more structure to be taken seriously. This took me less than ten minutes. And it's not like there's more to see or find, I ran around everywhere. Imho you'd need to increase the amount of storybeats so there is more of an incentive to both explore and more reward when you find something (and just hope or code it so events don't trigger out of order). OR guide or railroad the player much more with the beats you have so the story makes sense and has a more cinematic feel, as if a tiny episode of a bigger world. You'd lose the exploration but as it stands there's not much of it now anyway so I think it's a fair trade.
wonderful short game with an interesting mystery story. I really enjoyed the game and felt well entertained. It’s really good and highly recommended.
