I have conflicting feelings on this game but my overall opinion is one of frustration, the story is interesting enough and I wanted it to be good. I still like it but I cannot recommend this game at its current pricing of £5.19, before I get into anything please do not purchase this unless it is discounted, it is not worth that much. I have played games of much higher quality and length that are cheaper than this. Lets get into the good and bad to explain, Any spoilers will be hidden.
Good
- Has a decent enough story for most of the game - Written competently to a point - Characters are engaging enough to be interesting
Bad
- Really short story considering the price - Falls apart in the last chapter and Epilogue especially (At least in the path that you don't become king/queen).
The last chapter throws a curve ball at you and suddenly everyone is poisoned which is contagious...lemme say that again. A Contagious poison is killing your people. That is not how poisons work they are not contagious, viruses and diseases are so how in the hell does this make any sense to call it a poison? The Epilogue then completely and utterly destroys the overall story by being a rushed mess. After all these people dying and the king making a terrible speech to his people it suddenly does a 180 and goes happy and joyful. The people loved the kings speech, nothing is wrong now! They celebrate a "victory" when so many people died and IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR. They already spent a lot of the kingdoms gold to buy the cure for the "poison" and are now wasting money on a party at a wildly inappropriate time! Instead of trying to arrange funerals or supporting the people who suffered they throw a damn party the hell?? When the epilogue started I actually thought it was a delirious dream or something in the story because of how out of place the entire thing felt. But no that's how it actually ends, it doesn't even deal with any plot threads just the immediate thing that happened at the end of the story.
- Build up for a confrontation that doesn't happen - Sequel baiting in that it doesn't conclude anything and does a "tune in next time" to truly get to anything - Attributes that don't seem to play any part in choices or the story. I had 90% Knowledge and at no point did it seem to contribute to anything. The only stats that seemed to do something was Archery and Close combat (ONCE). - Side characters that wildly changed between characterisation. Queen Isabella went from someone that seemed to care about the PC to suddenly going "Oh actually I hate your mother and you so bye!" ???? - Very little world building. There's a sword that was made with magic, is it actual magic? Are their mages? How come its never mentioned or explained? What year is it? What country is this? Why is the economy bad years after a year? Nothing gets explained or elaborated on and you barely know anything about the world other than snippets here and there that get randomly tossed at you.
Worst
- The most worst thing in the entire game was the hidden dialogue that some choices had, completely changing what the option said it was going to say to something else. For example there were two choices that came up "I forgive you" and "I don't want you to die". I chose the 2nd one cuz I felt my character wouldn't forgive them so easily and they would need to earn that forgiveness, YET when I chose the option it then says I forgave them?? Why would you make a separate option if you're just going to make it have the same outcome? It infuriates me when that happens and its almost EVERY SINGLE OPTION THAT THIS HAPPENS. To show what this is like here is a video to better show what it does Here - Whoever wrote this has no ideas how monarchies work. For example who in their right mind would BULLY A PRINCESS/PRINCE?? Why are we only learning how to fight and read books? What about etiquette, laws, how to attend political meetings and more? There is like 1-2 scenes that briefly shows them learning history but it never happens again. I am harsh with this game because I like it, but the issues are too large to ignore and it actively worsens the experience. I was hopeful for this game, when something like this has a bigger price tag you expect it to have high quality and it does not reach it at all, I have played cheaper games from Hosted games that are MUCH higher quality and it aggravates me that this is priced higher than them. I really wanted this to be good as the first few chapters are fine, but the way it ends is just so out of left field that it killed any enjoyment I had. A huge disappointment.

I really, really liked the first 90% of this, but then it jumps abruptly to an epilogue and a bunch of plotlines just hit the ground with a resounding thud. Feels like a "finish your story in the next two hours or we'll shoot this dog" situation...?
5/10 Nothing really outstanding. Wasn't really bad, but wasn't really good. I didn't really feel like I was developing any relationships with anyone, even the one I romanced. I liked the amount of choices, but the story/narrative itself & characters could have been wrote a lot better & have more time spent with each of them. In conclusion. I would not say it is worth it right now as a standalone purchase without the sequels as those could & hopefully do improve on these aspects. Felt extremely short as well in a bad way IMO. It ended with me just left there saying "what?". Because that's it. That's all there was. Basically a demo-like feeling where you are left hanging for more, yet there was no more. I'll still probably play the next in hopes of it getting better, as it is not a bad game. Kinda bland with potential.
Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 218: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆ (6/10) This game has ambition, and you can feel it from the first chapter. The Sword of Rhivenia is a political fantasy epic packed with palace intrigue, family drama, and the kind of power struggles that should be delicious. It has the scope of a multi-season fantasy show' there’s betrayal, war, romance, and thrones to claim. The characters are interesting, the plot is full of political drama, and it’s long enough to feel like a true fantasy saga. But while the ideas are solid and the story is genuinely engaging, the execution struggles to keep up. From stilted writing to dropped plot threads, this is a game that wants to be great but often gets in its own way. If there’s ever a sequel with a stronger editor and more responsive gameplay systems, this series could be something special. For now, it’s a diamond in the rough—very rough. 👑 Pros:

The overarching plot is compelling. You’re dropped into a royal family torn apart by ambition and betrayal, and the stakes are immediately clear. Whether you're vying for power or trying to survive court politics, there’s always something to chase. The narrative knows how to escalate tension, introduce twists, and make you second-guess your allies, and that’s the core of what makes it work.
It’s long and meaty. This isn’t one of those blink-and-it’s-over IFs. There's a ton of content, plenty of branching scenes, and a lot of political maneuvering to chew through. If you’re looking for a fantasy game to sink a weekend (or two) into, this will definitely deliver in terms of sheer volume.
The characters are well-drawn and memorable. Even with uneven writing, the cast stands out. Your siblings all feel distinct, and the court is full of interesting personalities—some romantic, some dangerous, some both. Interpersonal relationships are where the game shines most: sibling rivalries, secret affairs, loyalty tests, and moral dilemmas are everywhere, and they make your choices feel emotionally loaded, even if the stats don't back that up.
✏️ Cons:

The writing feels stiff and unnatural. The prose is often clunky, with awkward sentence structure and pacing that feels more like a rough draft than a polished novel. Dialogue doesn’t always sound like how real people would speak, especially in tense or emotional scenes. It’s not unreadable, but it pulls you out of the moment. especially when you’re trying to stay immersed in a world of backstabbing royals and high-stakes diplomacy.
Typos and grammar issues are very common. This game could’ve used another round of editing. Typos pop up frequently, and basic grammar mistakes (missing words, run-on sentences, incorrect punctuation) start to distract after a while.
Stat checks don’t feel as impactful as they should. You’re given a wide range of stats—combat, charm, intelligence, ruthlessness—but in practice, they often feel shallow. Many major story beats resolve the same way regardless of your build, and failing a check rarely feels game-changing. The illusion of choice is strong, but when you start comparing routes, it becomes clear that stats don’t drive the story nearly as much as you’d hope.
Some plotlines disappear or fizzle out. There are moments where the story sets up exciting possibilities—alliances, betrayals, rising tensions—that either get glossed over or don’t lead anywhere. It’s hard to tell if that’s due to branching complexity or just unfinished plotting, but the result is a feeling that not all your choices matter or get proper closure.
It ends on a massive cliffhanger. After investing so much time and navigating so many choices, I expected some kind of satisfying resolution. Instead, the game abruptly halts in the middle of a major arc. There’s clearly more planned, but for now, it feels incomplete. Was fun, cant wait for book 2!
Tentative recommend, here. The game is very much a prologue meant to set up a larger story. Whether or not this game is truly "good" will really depend on the sequel. However, I wanted to recommend this because I disagree with a lot of the criticism that the story ends abruptly or in an unsatisfying manner. If it didn't end where it did then the author would likely have had to greatly increase the length of the story which just wasn't necessary as it was already quite long and obviously, as previously stated, it's primarily designed to be an introduction to the world. I will agree that the final part is a bit rushed but not in a manner that significantly detracts from the enjoyment of the story, IMO. As for the world itself - I played my character like a literal saint so I can't say I found the people's reactions to my rule to be particularly unreasonable. I will say that the game does seem to push the character in the "to be a good leader you must be merciless" direction but it's currently unknown whether it will severely punish you for it. Again, I really need to wait for the sequel before I can give my full thoughts on this. However, it'd be unreasonable to just turn people away from the game over the uncertainty here. After all, this game was, overall, an enjoyable read. The characters had depth. The world was intriguing. The plot was entertaining. I didn't feel like I was forced to act a certain way even though the characters attempted to push me in a certain direction. There seems to be many potential romance options as well - including poly routes, apparently, which is always an A+ feature in a game like this. Lol. Anyway, this game gets a cautious recommend from me and I'll be looking forward to the sequel.
Decent Game favorite moments involved
Marrying Richard off to steal his crush from him and killing his uncle
. 8/10 needs more sad Richard
One of the worst choice games which I have ever laid my eyes on. It reads if it was written by an 8-year-old. No cohesion, no consistent backstory or story building. “Give a beggar 1, 5 or 10 gold”; how can you know how much one gold piece is worth? Everan is named as a kingdom but ruled by a lord. You have no allies in the end, but throw a big party for your allies??? I strongly discourage you from ever purchasing this game. I only finished it in the hopes that it would get better. I was disappointed.
