The Storyteller

"The Storyteller" is an Unreal based early access "game that lets you make games"... ugh. Whenever developers decide that instead of doing the job of a developer, they try to get players to fill in the gaps, it ends in disaster. Worth noting this is at least still getting updates, but the integration of the untrustworthy EOS and some other elements, as well as the dead player base indicate this is highly unlikely to go anywhere. At best this is trying to be a really weak collaborative ripoff of RPG Maker, one of the worst bits of software ever to darken the gaming industry. It's incomplete and may never be finished. This features really godawful, lazy pixel-esque retro "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
